Like it Spirit, but I think Petracca will go pick 1. What about Brayshaw at 2?

And then watch him carve out a career like Scott Thompson.

I swear Mark Neeld is back.

scott thompson was near if not our best mid when he left. But toump couldturn it around.

Im not hearing anything at all at the golf club this season but most facebook pqges have us linked with every player on other lists in the afl.

Thompson struggled for the first 3 years with injuries and form. Came good in his 4th year then left.

Toump has alot of upside aswell.

Not sure what the etiquette is about passing this on, but just ran into the cousin of Jono O'rourke from GWS at a bar in Vienna. Reckons he's close to heading our way. Also told me some things about Watts' behaviour under Neeld but that Roos had really sorted him out.

Take this as you will, merely passing on what I heard.

Over and out.

Leaving aside the veracity of the Jono O'Rourke comment - how on earth would Jono (let alone his cousin) know anything about Watts' behaviour?

How is Brayshaw's leg speed?

Posted (edited)

Jason Tutt from the doggies being linked to us via SEN.

From Canberra, wonder if Roosy has a history with him?

Is Tutt the guy that kicked 4 goals on debut from his first 4 kicks against Port about 3 years ago.

I can remember him kicking the sealer against us earlier this year.

How is Brayshaw's leg speed?

It's average.

His game is built around endurance, hunger, smarts and skill. He gets to every stoppage, will either win the ball and make sure his tackles stick if he doesn't get to it first. He'd be one of the best tacklers at underage level. His kicking is good on both feet. He plays a lot like Sam Mitchell. He's an inside midfielder, but his skills and smarts are good enough that he could play outside and be damaging, or play on a flank and setup the play. He's the safest bet out of all the top draftees IMO.

So was Brock McLeans. Watching the finals, our need for speed and aggression couldn't be more apparent.

Yea fair point which I asked as well, he just relayed a story that had been passed on. Should have left that bit out, and not the point. Just not every day you run into ppl in Europe with AFL connections so thought I'd pass it on, take it or leave it.

Brayshaw to me looks the staffer bet. I'd trade pick 3 out whilst declaring Braysgaw is ours at #2- if you want McCartin or Petracca with 3, pay the price.

Speed is an over rated concept.

Players who are quick in the mind and are footballers rather than athletes are those who are most important in finals.

Mitchell,Hodge,Lewis,Kennedy,Bartel,Selwood are all vital to their sides come finals and none possess blistering pace but they all possess football smarts and an ability to read the play.

We have to few of these footballers and would prefer someone who makes good decisions backed up with equally good disposal.

One of the main reasons we are terrible is that we make poor decisions under pressure and we struggle to hold the ball because we can't consistently hit a target.

If Brayshaw can assist in addressing this he will be great and will make us better.

Why not look for a player with both? I take your point on the players you mention and their qualities, but prefer a Judd, Abblett, Cotchin Griffin, Watson type at pick two or three. I wasn't convinced on the Brayshaw highlights reel but l don't see him every week, which was why I asked the question. I don't agree speed is overrated either, but if its simply about securing a footy smarts only type, my preference would be a ready made one rather than a wip.

Pace has its place on the field, usually when you need someone breaking the lines. Ïn the mid field you need fast reactions, get the ball and get rid of it in a split second to another player on the outside as most decent players these days have people hanging off their elbow ready to tackle. Ablett is not super fast, but is damn hard to catch. We need players who have good speed of foot but better speed, stand up in a tackle and have great ball handling skills

I wonder how long its going to take before we see a "lets trade Petracca" thread... Or a "Brayshaw is too slow" thread...lol...

The annual draftee hype around these boards is rediculas... Surely we have learnt from our passed mistakes? What makes these hyped up draftees different from previous years? Pffft...

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
