I think its great we finally have a 5 year + plan for this club. No more speculation on this senior assistant, its done and now we have some stability. Now hopefully we can attract some players to the club when they see what the future is. im not worried about asada business. Goodwin was cleared. im sure PJ and rossy would have grilled him on that and it sounds like he was honest.

Goodwin is probably secretly relieved to be gone from essendon. I trust roosy and when he said he got a good vibe after 1 meeting then im confident we are onto a good thing.

well it looks like bernie will hang around. He is rapt to have goodwin.

its also good to see our president in front of the media. I wouldn't have had a clue what he looked liked.

But I also like this comment from simon. Goodwin: I learned a lot (at Essendon) but I'm now a Melbourne person and that's what I want to be.

2011: Melbourne sign Neeld getting in ahead of Adelaide - Melb LOSE (note: most coaches from 2011 have a horrible record)

Myth.

He wasn't even in Adelaide's final 3. Didn' t do well in the psychobabble test apparently.

Unfortunately, the brains-trust of the MFC thought that Adelaide were about to pounce.

Bernie will be with us for the rest of his career

It's all very well, but does anyone else have a sense of Deja Vu? We hear that Adelaide are into a certain coaching candidate and snap him up quickly... Where have I heard that before?

But this time we have Roos helping decide who is a good coach which is a BIG step up from Lyon choosing

Cool story.

Drop me a PM when you make a post worth reading & I'll have a look at it x

We don't need to go private my dear.

Smacky ,you are a Greek skydiver if there ever was one.

Someone i know has met him and says he is an all round solid individual.

I met Simon, actually spent a fair part of a day chatting with him at the Clipsal 500 way back in 2000. Lovely bloke, feet on the ground, smart, easy to talk to, was a sensational player. My brief experience says he is worthy of being considered, if Roos and Co think he is better than that then fantastic.

Welcome to Demonland Simon. You will become our first premiership coach in 50+ years.

i also wonder how much roosy spoke about simon with bomber when they did there monday night slots on afl 360.

roosy also said he spoke to about 20 candidates. I wonder who else they sussed out.

I like this outcome, but mainly because Bartlett, PJ and Roos have been the driving force behind the decision, and I can't remember the last time I had genuine faith in our top line decision makers. This trio are the probable foundation stones of our intended "sustained success". The decision making process to find a coach/successor has been attended to quietly, professionally and expertly behind the scenes, with no media bulldust or leaks to lime-light seeking journalists, gives me confidence in the people making the decisions. This Igives me a kind of confidence that has been rare for too long, and I hardly dare to invest in this confidence.

As far as Goodwin being the man, I have absolutely no idea if he will be any good. Everything seems to appear in order, but the same could be said of Bailey and Neeld. And I will become a Collingwood supporter before I ever again jump on board a new coach, investing all my hope in him.

But I have to admit this appointment and the explanation of how this appointment was reached makes me feel good about 2015.

See.

This game is like "which New Zealand cricketer from the 80s would you want to be your mate".

Almost impossible to win.

Loved Goodwin as a player and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, bar some amusing tripping up over his words ("an extra 2 years as an assistant can't help" :) )

It's nice to have this sorted out now and everyone can get on with the business of winning footy games and putting smiles on faces.

Love on triple M he mentioned by building relationships with players he likes sitting down and having a quite beer with them and other stuff aswell.

Classic.

Deja vu alright.

Goodwin is an assistant coach. Not head man.

Really, if you are going to select a middle weight intellectual, why not go Voss?

Bailey was a mistake,

Neeld a disaster

Roos an interim

And now, the uninspiring, morally tainted culture builder, Goodwin.

FMD, when are we going to get it right?

Boring, uninspiring, hastily made decision.

And a 5 year deal to a guy who can't even string a sentence together without fumbling.

Madness.

The club deserves to go broke.

bloody joke.

Good news, but isn't there any unwritten rule in coaching contracts that a club will release them to go onto a senior gig? If this was done before Sando was sacked he still may go to the crows.. Surely not though!!

Probably as [censored] off as many Adelaide folk at the treatment of Sanderson, who after all a couple of years ago got his team to within a poofteenth of a GF.

Just one caveat - is he really clean in regards to the drug stuff at EssUndone? I am sure that Mr Jackson has done his due diligence, but only MFC, Sod's law, and the Norm Smith curse, could combine to find him banned as he is about to take the reins. :-(((((

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
