So, why wouldn't his manager or the player himself state that directly.

I can't see how anything can be gained by just stating you are coming back to 'Victoria'.

If I had to guess, it's purely because the official free agency period hasn't begun and they want to look as if they're following AFL protocol.

Obviously it hasn't stopped other players demanding trades to specific teams, but not one other free agent this year has announced a destination club either, so it's hardly an isolated situation.

Gibson, Hale, Frawley, Gunston, Burgoyne, Lake, McEvoy, Ceglar, etc, yes the Hawks developed their own talent.

Hodge, franklin, Lewis , Rioli, Roughead , Mitchell etc etc...

They haven't given the farm to attract big name player.....

I can put up the Geelong list of players....

You win flags with strong culture .. You can't buy or draft it.. All those Hawk players who come from other clubs walked into strong culture & become better players...

Ps love to have him though

there is a chance though, and when your other option is melksham, you're gonna take that chance and hold it very tightly

My wife had dinner last week with Dangerfield's mistress's mother who says he barracks for Sydney and is waiting for a Buddy like offer. Whatever the outcome, we're out of the picture so get over it Demonlanders. She also said he's most probably gay.

Nah, not believable. Got to be a hairdresser in the chain somewhere for it to have any credibility.

Fagan has become adamant that the Crows had to be “fairly” compensated for losing such a star. That point will be reinforced today when Adelaide makes the declaration it will be first AFL club to match a free-agent offer — forcing Geelong to trade for Dangerfield or run the risk of losing him in the AFL national draft on November 29.

Suck [censored] Geelong hahahaaaaa

This will be interesting. Dangerfield ending up in the draft is a worst case scenario for all parties involved. It would mean that Adelaide will not be compensated, Geelong will likely miss out on him, and Dangerfield himself runs the risk of ending up in Queensland, Sydney, or at another Victorian club. Adelaide will obviously be keen to maximize their return from Geelong, however they won't want to lose him for nothing by letting him slip through to the draft. If Geelong are unable to satisfy Adelaide's demands will he become open to moving to other Victorian clubs for fear of heading north? Will Geelong accept Adelaide's demands? Or will Adelaide give in and accept Geelong's best offer?

It's a high-stakes game that these three parties are playing, and it's going to be very interesting to see who folds first.

For those who believe that Dangerfield is going anywhere else but Geelong it's worth pondering over the pain the Cats have gone with regard to letting some of their all time greats leave the club. Stevie Johnson would IMO have been kept on if they weren't absolutely sure that Danger was coming to them and it will happen - it's just a matter of how he gets across.

Adelaide trade Dangerfield to Geelong

Geelong trade Pick 9 back to Adelaide, Jared Jansen to Brisbane and Josh Walker + Draft Picks 28 & 46 to Carlton

Carlton trade Tom Bell to Brisbane & Lachie Henderson + Pick 74 to Geelong

Brisbane trade Sam Mayes to Adelaide & Pick 75 to Geelong.

NET GAINS & LOSSES.

Adelaide get Mayes & Pick 9, loose Dangerfield.

Geelong get Dangerfield, Henderson & Picks 74 + 75, loose Walker, Jansen + Picks 9, 28 & 46.

Carlton get Walker + Picks 28 & 46, loose Henderson, Bell & Pick 74.

Brisbane get Jansen & Bell, loose Mayes & Pick 75.

They all win. Except Adelaide I guess. You can never really win when loosing Dangerfield.

Yes Danger is going to the cats but I would have thought Stevie J was moved on because it was time. Yes he helped to influence the odd game but so did Goodes and Cross. They are staggering the retirements of their champs. Bartel had a bit left after returning from a long injury lay off during the year. He can sit on a back flack, play limited minutes in the midfield or sit in a forward pocket.

Makes me smile they will match the offer. This decision benefits every club, except Geelong, with less compensation picks diluting the draft.

It will still end up benefitting Geelong. They GET Dangerfield. And it seems for less than others might have paid. They're not losing here.

I get the impression Paddy sees Geelong as being 'home' .

I can understand that. He'll be looked after. He'll be set for life and theres more than footy .

But they will have to trade something for him rather than get him for nothing.

So lets hope the Crows bend them over

Luke Darcy on MMM saying Melbourne offered him $1.5 million over 6 years but he turned it down. Cited a reliable source.

I can't believe that he would knock back an extra $700,000 a year.

Why not? My wife turned down near 40k to work 30 minutes away from home opposed to 2 hours. Money ain't everything.

If your wife were offered 700k extra to work that 2 hours away, she'd take it. Don't say she wouldn't.

In that case their should be investigations into under the table payments by Geelong to Dangerfield or his family/missus

There is no logical reason why hed knocks back that sort of money

Logical reason is he wants to play near his hometown, Melbourne is too far away.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
