Planned MFC list rebuild

Grand New Flag

There are leaks and there are snippets of half truths that are strategically allowed to be dispersed in order to achieve a certain objective.

If any of this is true I would place it in the latter category.

Yes, theres a game of 'subltety ' afoot for sure.

Statements about tanking, statements about team situation , statements about "appropriateness" . Hints at what the club might do , under specific conditions" what we might the shopping for or who we might be 'shopping" .

All about getting to the head of the queue.

Bit like leaking the Budget....testing waters etc.

Not commenting on the plan but horrified if that's a genuine leak from inside the club.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack Watts go to one of the top teams, he has great skills and speed, perhaps a really good culture could get his work rate to where it needs to be to get the best out of him, Jack is a favourite of mine so wherever he is I hope we see the best of him

We all need to completely let go of the care for individuals at the club. No matter how much of a 'good honest bloke' they may be.

This is about the survival of the MFC.

No, this is about the how the MFC can thrive.

And Roos would disagree with you about the need to care for the individuals at the club.

We need to make passionless decisions based on what is best for the club - weighing up a myriad of factors.

You have touched on some yourself - but nothing but hard work, enterprising recruitment, excellent drafting, and keeping the faith in a few players is going to keep us moving in the direction we have since last year.

Which, as dismayed as I was about last week, is upward.

Trading out players just to trade them out is not what will build this list.

That isn't to say that I wouldn't trade anyone (Jones, Viney, Tyson and Hogan aside) that wouldn't improve the side...

Just on Deak Kent, I know he isn't tall but what are people's thoughts on giving him a run and more time in the midfield? He reminds me of a lot like Dayne Zorko. Just reckon if he can build more match fitness we could use his pace and willing to take the game on more often around the ground.

I agree with this, the "leaking" of information is no accident.

Dean Kent is a great kick

For some reason pathetic kicking has spread like Eboila through our team over the seasons 2nd half

I think it may be to do with the players tiring in what is the the first season of a new gameplan that demands 2 way running

That is a good theory except we kicked it out of bounds 4 times early in the 2nd quarter and otherwise butchered it as well.

I wouldn't ......both Toumpas and Tengove far too slow for modern footy plus a few other weaknesses.

FWIW I would put HOWE in at Full Forward and leave him there for the season!

be vry careful who you throw out... in a game coming back towards 80 rotations per game, players like Trenners will be gold in a couple of years.

He Is absolutely a Keep for me.

I would also like to see Trenners and Toump play a full season, injury free, under Roos, before making any decision on them.

or a bit like the Sainters last couple of years with rumors doing the rounds of Riewoldt for trade, or Montagna for trade, or Delsanto for trade... testing the home waters & advertising to the AFL world, we are open to offers.

if there is too much backlash from supporters, this guides the clubs direction.

How often in a post do we hear the words "in a couple of years" "a couple more preseason" in another 50 games " etc

Now Im not having a go at those who utter them but they are what you say when you know bloody well the current situation is rubbish and you pin all hope on what 'might' be..Not even on what is LIKELY to be , just what maybe happen if all our cards fall right and planets line up etc

We need to passionlessly weigh up our situation and trade and draft for today... Get this team going yesterday. If we do'nt its just futile to even contemplate a tomorrow.

I'm sure the Club will be VERY careful about who goes and who comes. It'll be novel.

I think they got a plan guys. I think they have literally planned for all contingencies and know what to do for the benefit of the club and supporters. Don't worry guys, we got experienced people leading us who know what their doing.

Are you the son of Saty?

It was reported on 3AW last night that Roos had a plan for a complete rebuild of the MFC list post season. It was reported that Roos is looking for 5 picks in the top 20 in this years draft and is also looking to bring in 5 mature players.

We are likely to get:

  • pick 2,
  • pick 3 (Frawley),
  • a good possibly (that's the clubs opinion after initial discussions with AFL) a PP at either 1, 4 or 20.
  • We will also have 2nd Round pick at ~20.
This means we will need to trade for at least 1 probably 2 or 3 picks in the top 20 considering at least one of these picks will be traded for a mature age player. Apparently the MFC is offering as trade bate the following players:

  • Watts
  • Grimes
  • Trengrove
  • Toumpas
Apparently Roos is looking to trade out at least 2 of these 4 depending on what is offered.

The mature age players will come from a combination of Free Agency, Trades and delisting's (aka Cross).

What are supporters views on this? Personally I have full faith in Roos, you have to give away talent to get talent, clearly he is trying to break the poor culture by bringing in new core players.

*** Please note this is not from my contacts inside the club, I have no idea if true. This comes from Gerard Healy and others on 3AW last night. However, they were claiming it as a scoop.

I wouldn't of thought we'd be trading a co-captain. So i'd imagine the two out of the 4 would be watts amd toumpus? They've just heavily invested in Trengove and it'd be cruel to not see if he comes back a new man -post op. Wouldnt of thought Trengove would have much currency based off form either?

Derwayne: "So they're planning not to win another game then?"

What a monumental d-head that bloke is.

Agreed, what a deushbag!

This is also exactly what King said on 360 last week by the way, maybe their sources aren't as developed as they're leading on.

It's the same 'trade who has currency' gambit that has been spoken about repeatedly and is obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Everyone is on the table should it realise a better outcome.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
