Mate...because their reasons haven't proven justified. Us getting a priority is unlikely but possible. The only reason it's unlikely is cause you cant predict [censored] from the afl due to their incessant inconsistencies. We should at least ask...pick 20 as compensation is reasonable.

Your right, they're unpredictable. My view is that we have no doubt improved on last year, whats our biggest loss, 60 points? and theres only been one.

Last year we went in to every game with the potential of losing by 60+ easily, and many we did. 60 point losses ended up seeming like reasonable games lol.

We can only ask and see what they say.

Im also doubtful due to us obviously getting a top 4 pick as well as chips comp - he's so gone.

One thing that will count against us is the potential recruitment of Jeremy Cameron.

The afl will not be happy about him leaving the giants, and especially unhappy about copping the other clubs sooking because they gave us the pick to get him.

Well, IF, big IF, Cameron joined us, and IF Hogan was able to play then I would say stuff the pp!

Two big IFs though.

massive IF's but the kid was going on about how he was going to sign a contract extension, he hasn't, then there was talk he might come back to Vic, he put out the least convincing video I have seen in a while saying he wanted to stay, and the rumours begin that we are chasing him with big dollars and then he goes in for season ending surgery

Pick 20 could get you Mitchell from the Swans. I am not too proud to take that.

We fit the criteria to get one, that is, being pathetic for a long time.

I think so too Redleg, Carlton won't offer their first rounder as they need a key position player too much.

do you reckon we would be 50/50 to get around a pick 20 compensation? This could open a lot of avenues like trading it for Mitchell as said above. As a result, we could get 4 'quality' midfielders this offseason; Petracca, Brayshaw, ROK, and Mitchell. Add that to Salem, Trengove, and Toumpas all getting another preseason...then maybe we could pull off a miracle next year. Nothing wrong with being optimistic!

Edit: focusing on our midfield here

Yep, heard that and thought the same.

Also heard Gary's little smokescreen earlier...

No way Sydney gives up Mitchell for pick 20. He would be a top 10 maybe top 5 pick in this draft. We'd have to consider him at pick 4.

we won't get a priority pick.

just delete the thread and stop dreaming.

If we didnt get one last year, why would we get one this year.

Exactly there's no way in hell the AFL will give us one and the other clubs would lose their [censored].

Mitchell hasn't been in Sydney's best 22 this despite being fit for selection in some games. They can't ask for a top 5 pick 100 percent. Pick 10 would be probably right but if we offer good enough money and guarantee of game time he could ask to leave...further lowering their bargaining power. Hence why pick 20 isn't out of the question.

It's not about what other clubs think. Rules are enacted for a reason and they should be implemented consistently no matter what controversy it creates. The afl should review our shitiness from an objective point of view...i.e. their formula shouldn't be changed due to the subjective opinions of other teams. Their decisions have to be bound by precedents otherwise everything is unfair and [censored] up and they have to get rid of the priority pick altogether.

If the priority pick still exists...we're 'deserve' one. I'm sure the club can put a very good argument if they tried.

No one will get a priority pick whilst the reasons given for deciding are subjective and based on future crystal balling.

"The MFC will not be given a Priority Pick - with Paul Roos going into his second season with the club, we expect to see further improvement from all parts of the playing group having already seen much better defensive efforts. Jesse Hogan will be a big bonus for the club and........and..... and... we expect him to kick 100 goals plus next year. Jack Watts will have a breakout season and find the intensity of Chris Dawes. Jordan McKenzie will become the goalsneak the MFC hoped he would become. Dan Nicholson's kicking skills are on the rise and we expect a big contribution as an Ablettesque midfielder. It has also come to our attention after reading Demonland that Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel, Patrick Dangerfield and Nick Malcescki are all on their way to the club and despite being the biggest spud god ever put breath into Chip Frawley has re-signed with the club for 4 years at $2.59 per season. We will therefore not give the MFC a priority pick - after a close vote it was also decided not to remove picks from the club even though a very persuasive argument was put forward to the commission that the Demons were a shoe-in for the 2015 flag"

You forgot to mention that we will be hiring a new bootstudder, and because of his brilliant bootstudding, we will be raging favourites for the flag.

And a new cook, to feed the boys warm soup after training, on those cold wintery nights days. & to keep the nasty's at bay. to run water out to the boys when they tire, & keep them in the zone.

They might give one to gws next year if the win less then four wins, the afl wont give anyone a pp until gws are at the same level as the suns.

Saints doing their best to secure pick 1.

Besides making their intentions clear in the way they have discussed the possibility of trading pick 1, as if they have a mortgage on it, they have now put Dunstan in for season-ending surgery that could have waited.

GWS likewise have had a quarter of their list in for surgery in the last few weeks.

The tank race is on.

Probably, but we don't dare enter it. The again maybe we don't have to enter to win.

2014 - 4 wins

2013 - 2 wins (GWS, Bulldogs)

2012 - 4 wins (2 v GWS, 1v Gold coast, Essendon)

2011 - 8 wins (oh heady days!)

2010 - 8 wins

2009 - 4 wins (PRE goldcoast/gws - and a loss to richmond after the siren

2008 - 3 wins

2007 - 5 wins (inc the "kruzer cup"

8 seasons. 38 wins out of 176 matches at 21.59%

our list is not crash hot either as expansion teams and free agency (and poor drafting choices) have left us without talent.

give us a first rounder behind our first pick but tell us we have to trade it so we get a ready-made player in.

Paul Roos 4 wins out of 18 matches at 22.2%. Sheesh. On par with an improved midfield.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
