Paul Roos signs for third year

Recommended Posts

I like all your positives, but perhaps being overlooked to coach when Clarkson was ill should be considered to place a "cross" against his name. Having said that, there may have been a good reason why he was oveerlooked, but it surely has to raise a flag worth considering during any due diligence investigation.

I would have thought there were a few things at play there.

Bolton was capable yet hadn't had any head coach experience at AFL level, so it may have been seen by Ratten or others as good to give him his own chance.

Ratten also having previously been a head coach, if not entirely successful in this stint, could have put a line through his name for other future head positions, either fairly or unfairly, considering the limited influence a coach could have on a team's fortunes by taking over midway through a season. He'd be on a hiding to nothing

And if he were successful, and then later Clarko returned and wasn't immediately successful, they had the potential to experience a "Ratten is gunning for Clarkson's job" media saga, whether there was truth in it or not. None of that with Bolton.

Bolton just seemed the sensible, easy, and entirely just as capable choice.

Funnily enough, Hugh Laurie himself may actually be re-eanacting this scene right now...

Depending on the strength of his allegiance.

Lol, yeah that's why I picked that one. Saw that Hugh Laurie supports the Dees thread a while back so this gif seemed appropriate :)

Agree. Although I don't think there was too much doubt about the third year, I think this is very good news. It says to our players that there are 2 more years of Roos, and it says to the market that we have stability. It also allows time to recruit, assess and plan for Roos' successor. In that regard, it increases the pool because instead of it having to be someone who needed substantial assistant experience, we can pick someone like a Ling if we want to and they will have 2 years under Roos, and maybe more if he sticks around in a different capacity as he has flagged doing.

Great news. Go dees!

Great news. Though a very strange way this played out.

Given the result, it seems like the entire 'controversy' was probably completely outside the inner sanctum. Roosy and PJ were probably pretty relaxed to wait it out, but Roosy probably came to the conclusion that if he had to decide now, he'd stay, so may as well just get rid of the distraction.

Is this the news that helps Chip?

Don't really care if we finish last, 2nd last or 3rd last now, this is the news I hoped for, he's got us on the right trail.

Hugh Laurie is a Demons fan? There must be something in that for the club (and I don't just mean money). Get him to a few matches and his face will be all over the broadcast - may inspire some new members.

SHAZAM!!! Awesome!!

Big coop to have arguably the best coach in the Biz for another year!

He may say certain things that its only 3 years ect but once you get in the club you become part of it and want to see some success...Roosy loves it...he still has the bug and sees the potential!

Thanks Paul.

If Chip decides not to sign on ( I personally think he won't)he may look quite silly in a year or two !!! This is great news Roos has shown that he has the respect to attract quality and this will enable us to be very appealing to sign new players for a minimum of 2 years

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
