Malceski is a great player, there's no doubt about that but this would be a massive risk for us to take.

Left Field is right - he's too old to undergo further surgery if he blows his knee again, so if we were to consider picking him up I'd be hoping an extremely thorough medical examination would be on the cards, to ensure his knee hasn't begun to deteriorate again.[/quote

If we get some good games out of him before he 'blows his knee' then all is not lost. Presuming the selectors are astute in our selection of rookies, we may well compensate more than adequately as we did this year with Jetta.

Let's say the compo for Frawley got watered down to an end of 1st round pick (at best) if we took malceski.

That's pick 4 vs pick 24 and malceski.

Absolutely crazy to take a 29 year old on that basis, no matter what role they can fill.

Make malceski a $ offer too good to be true and then offer the swans a 4th rounder or similar for a token trade, given our 3rd round pick should hopefully be spent on stretch.

My wife and 2 of my kids have had 8 total knee reconstructions between them. And our Sydney surgeon, who I might add drives a very nice car, refuses to do Lars because he told us they wear and snap in normal people (let alone athletes who load them up many times more). So if NM has had 3 good years on a Lars, his theory would have it that it would be close to EOL. That's all I'm saying. It's a huge medical risk surely.

Against that, I am a huge fan and think we could certainly use his skill to improve a bit in the back half and going inside 50. But he won't be there for the next finals tilt so we may as well turn over who we have until we can find someone who can get remotely closely to hitting the side of a barn.

I wonder if we could work a deal that bundles malceski and Mitchell and avoid watering down our compo

The only way to do that is wait on Frawely to leave, get the compo pick and then trade that for both of them if they were interested in doing it. I don't see any other way.

which imo is probably a little overs, maybe we could do as Machsy suggested and trade the frawley compo to the suns for their pick and their compo so roughly picks 11 and 15, I think they'd probably be happy to upgrade their pick

do you reckon pick 11 would be enough for Malceski and Mitchell? essentially they probably stand to get a fourth rounder for compo as Malceski isn't going to attract a huge contract, swans could well finish 1st and he is 30

We could possibly get Malceski and O'Keefe for very little....

if both just straight up refuse to re-sign do they become delisted free agents?

Surely we could arrange to go through the PSD if the Swans won't release him in a trade rather than FA?

So St. Kilda can take him?

Doubt he'd do that anyway. I'm sure we wouldn't be the only club interested, he'd just choose one of our rivals who didn't try to make him jump through hoops to get there.

Decide whether we want him, decide what price we will pay, and pay it. Trying to dick around with these things rarely produce good results.

would have loved him with the ball on the outer half back flank with a couple of minutes to go.. wouldnt have kicked it out on the full.

You could put the house on that one Demon3

Malceski - only if he comes for next to nothing.

Dees must aspire higher.

Cannot afford to fall for the trap that other clubs have - i.e. too many recycled players as a short term (questionable) fix.

Foss who's spot would he take on the list that he is not better than? I look at the Aussie cricket team who for a number of years tired to manufacture young guys into international players. Boof comes in and says no lets just play the best no matter their age or history. I think AFL teams and MFC are a perfect example of the previous thinking. We need to keep focussing on winning now and not the thoughts of lets develop over another 4 years. I feel he would be a big improvement for us on our list.

As I'm sure you know, the MFC are a 'special case' and I'd argue that out of all clubs, ours would still measure close to last when it comes to leadership across the board. I'm talking about players who can drive standards like Daniel Cross.

Jones is the only player I can think of who has come through unaffected by our deplorable past 8 years or so. Nobody else on our list has demands as much of themselves and of others. Which is what leaders must do.

So with that in mind we've drafted Cross and Vince. Dawes as well.

Malceski would be a great get providing he stays fit for the rest of the year.. Obviously he's a great player and has a beautiful kick which would help our backline emensely as we have next to nobody with great skills playing back there.

But more importantly, he's one of Sydney's leaders and experienced players and having him for any young player at our club would be hugely positive and inspiring.

We don't have these players and we need them. Not all of them. Obviously ones that are still performing and who are injury free etc.

For the posters talking about his knee injuries, do you have any idea how long ago he did his knee?

Years.

We'll be getting 1 or 2 more players like this for next year. I have no doubt about it.

People saying his knee could blow out at any time... Well we gave up pick 12 for a bloke who played a handful of games for us, you never know what is around the corner, no point living in fear of hypotheticals.. His exactly the type of player we need and if he was interested in coming to us then we should be all for it

I would love to have him in the red and blue. But just a thought...If he came to use who's spot in the backline does he take? Grimes? Then what do we do with our captain?

He'll have to earn his spot like anyone else. A bit of competition may prompt a rapid improvement in his skills.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
