I'm staggered he wasn't dropped this week. Either Roos is a horrible judge of character, or they know dropping him would end whatever slither of a chance they have of holding on to him.

Would rather pick 3.

damo just said on the footy show melbourne people have told him chip is unlikely going to attend the b&f next week

Good, one less mouth to feed at the B&F. If he's that selfish and pathetic, then i don't want our club to waste another cent on that money-grubbing traitor.

i think it's more the club trying to portray that it really wants him to stay, thus improving our chances of maximum compensation.

He's led the club and supporters on a Merry dance all year just like $cully. He's a $h1t player. I'd be sad if he stays.

Yes and no...not everyone bought it

Also happy for him to go ......Goodbye Mr Chip..............no tears though ^_^

Prediction. Frawley announces he is leaving. There is obviously going to be a lag before afl announce compo. Despite it being spoken about far and wide all year we would get a first round pick suddenly other clubs and their media lackeys will seriously start grumbling about us getting no 3 pick and lobbying afl hard. Heck I can hear gws now saying we don't deserve pick 3.

Perhaps applying for a pp was an ambit claim aimed at preventing such a rubbish campaign getting traction

Yet - Mitch Clark said he wanted to go home as the reason he wanted out of the Lions and came to us for big money - yet look at the love for him on this site - absolutely no difference IMO.

I profess to "loving" footballers who look beyond pure monetary gain and show loyalty. I also understand that in this age loyalty is now a diminishing quality. Come the next two weeks Frawley will be just another footballer at another club.

I will make the distinction between Frawley and Scully - Frawley absolutely mumbled incoherent nonsense and like WYL I think his mind was made up to go - however I do not once hear Frawley say "‘I’d love to end my career and say I was a one club player, and anticipate that will be the case,’’ Scully said.

My biggest problem with Scully is not that he left - it was his press conference - he didnt fumble his answers like Frawley , he wasnt vague like Frawley, he didnt make obtuse and nonsensical statements like Frawley - he was clear. precise and accurate and lied through his teeth.

If what Damo said is true and he's refusing to attend the B&F, Frawley has no business playing this week and earning a match payment.

We are now relying on Damien Barrett for our information ?

. When free agents ( or GWS/Sun uncontracted player concessions) have opted out of a club prior to the B&F counts - these players havent gone to their clubs counts. If you listened to what that steaming pile of a journalist said - it is just a confirmation of protocol. There is an expectation he will go and if he goes he wont be at the B&F count.

I don't believe for a second that Frawley would have said now that he is refusing to go the B&F as the official word is that he not made us his mind. I don't believe that he hasnt made up his mind - I do believe he has not told the club he is going. For those who think he has - please explain to me why exactly he would do that ?

Once he confirms he is off it will be immediately confirmed he is not going to the B&F.

Ever since that Dee TV interview i have known he was gone.

I knew he was gone the minute Hogans Heroes said he was staying.

Theres certainly far more than meets our eyes regarding the little game Jackson and Roos have been playing.

In the mini-analysis in The Age of Free Agency moves (if they went to higher clubs or lower clubs) of the 17 players listed, 3 were from Melbourne (Sylvia, Maloney, Rivers). Two of these went to current finalists.

While i'm not overly upset about losing those three, if you add Frawley to the list this year, then we are officially becoming a feeder club, losing our experienced players to more successful clubs in an era of football dominated by mature bodies and wise heads.

If you add the losses of Clark, Jurrah, Wonna as additional unexpeceted talent losses during this period, its no surprise we've struggled on the field.

To break this cycle and hold onto our players despite free agency we need to rise quickly, and the AFL should facilitate this with a PP in addition to the Frawley compo...

Not sure if there is a bit of a myth about the weak clubs being feeder clubs, for when you do the analysis of the data below of the first 2 years of free agency it could be argued that Hawthorn has been most affected (champion of the game, a premiership player and 2 unrestricted free agents) as opposed to us losing a player who has since retired, a player who can't make firsts and leving 1 untrestricted free agent. As for destinations it could be argued we have done well there as well with 4 players ariving, though a quick scan of Sydney shows who has done best Note: other accepted strong clubs Hawthorn and Geelong hardly feature, while I wouldn't stating that Collingwood is ahead. St Kilda is probably the biggest loser.

Player Free Agent type Former club New club

Riley, AidanAidan Riley Delisted Adelaide Melbourne

Knights, ChrisChris Knights Unrestricted Adelaide Richmond

Betts, EddieEddie Betts Restricted Carlton Adelaide

Laidler, JeremyJeremy Laidler Delisted Carlton Sydney

Thomas, DaleDale Thomas Restricted Collingwood Carlton

Armstrong, TonyTony Armstrong Delisted Sydney Collingwood

Lynch, QuintenQuinten Lynch Unrestricted West Coast Collingwood

Addison, DylanDylan Addison Delisted Western Bulldogs Greater Western Sydney

Cross, DanielDaniel Cross Delisted Western Bulldogs Melbourne

It's to early to call but free agency could work the other way where stronger clubs loose players who want to finish on big bucks (Franklin, Thomas) or players who are fringe but want greater opportunity (Ellis, Betts). Note we shouldn't take to much notice of delisted free agents, as the club was ofloading them anyway.

Edit: trying to format table data

I don't believe a word that [censored] Barrett says.

If he has made his mind up (which seems to be the case), then I for one are thankfull for his efforts - I remember reading a stat, that no other player has seen the ball come into the defensive 50 as much as what he has.

If you are gone Chip, then thank you.....and btw thanks afl for pick 3 (hopefully)

sigh...

have a look at who has taken the most marks for our club this season

have a look at who has taken the most marks in our forward line

have a look at who is second on our goal kicking this season

have a look at who has the 4th most marks in the league.

I don't think his season hasn't been particularly great but if you want to talking about earning match payments - we could be a zillion dollars in the black this season because by your logic we could probably slash our match payments based on who earned it to about 20% of the actual amount.

The thought of Frawley leaving 2-3 years ago would have had me in tears.. Now it's meh, not sure if his underwhelming form this year or after losing col, rivers, moloney to FA I've become adjusted to players leaving like this. You'd think the bloke would stick it out and try and be part of turning this club around but obviously he wants money/success. Football is a business for players and id like to know anyone of us if in our profession if a more successful business came to you and offered you close to double your current wage, you'd be stupid to knock it back. Cya chip...

Yep I got shouted down for calling it early - it's been obvious since the start of the season really. Watching those same posters slowly recognize the obvious has been mildly entertaining I must say

I predict he'll leave but I have no ill feelings towards him like some of you.

The guy has been at the club for 8 years, played good football for most of it, and stayed true through the club's most disastrous time. He isn't the only player who would be best suited to move on and let the club move on in the process.

Good luck to him.

This is one of the many amusing things about this site.

The first post about Barrett was misleading enough, but now we've developed a Chinese Whispers situation.

I don't have the exact quote but I believe Barrett said something along the lines of 'some MFC staff wouldn't be surprised if he didn't attend the b & f'. Now we've turned that into he's 'refusing to attend the b & f'. I know you said 'if what Damo said is true', but its just funny how we shape things into what we want to hear.

My favourite part is when people here question his loyalty......yet they're savaging him while he's still here.

My second favourite part is when they denounce him as a player (he's sh!it, a spud etc.) but then expect the highest compensation for him.

Talk about irony....

Totally underwhelmed by the thought of Frawls staying or going, totally underwhelmed by all things MFC at this point in another sh it truck of a lost season.

If true that would be the final great performance of a club leader.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
