He walked for an easy flag and he got one. Off the back of champion players who stayed at Hawthorn through the hard times in the early to mid 2000's. He left during some of the worst years our club has ever seen. 

I have zero respect for players like James Frawley. 

And I would be almost certain that if he was interested in coming back to the club, Nathan Jones would be the first one to tell him to get [censored]. Jones would take it as an enormous insult.

Frawley is also overrated as a player.

No. He is not even close to the player he was 6 or 7 years ago when he was AA, and is only going back to keep going downhill at his age.

He will play in more losses than most players ever do but at least he has the medal to show he can play.

I love watching him with hands on hips,looking up at the ball as it sails through the goals.Once hated it and felt sorry for him but he doesn't need pity now.

Rob Flower knocked back quite a few BIG offers from AFL clubs to leave Melb and his answer was always a resolute and resounding NOOOOOO!

He would have played in premierships, but he remained loyal to the Melbourne Football Club.

I don't care what sport it is, Loyalty is such a lost virtue ( and before anyone says yeah but the club can trade you out at a whim), I can remember Ron Barrasi talking to his players in that Iconic book was written by John Powers "The Coach" and he said,

Regarding transfers, "No player who is really valuable will ever be traded out of North Melbourne" or words to that effect.

Rob Murphy was very similar and I suppose thats why we have always loved the Champion that still gets well paid but isn't totally driven by the $$$ Or the possibility that life on the other side is always greener!!

Frawley was key to the Hawks winning the 2015 flag - played an awesome finals series once they put him in as KPB - he earned his medal.

While his premiership was a cheap one, he did play a significant role in them winning on that day.  He slaughtered Kennedy, and was close to winning a Norm Smith Medal.

There is absolutely no doubt he would be our best defender if he came back, but I'm content with the way our defence is developing without him, and I don't really think adding him to it would fast track a flag for us.

Seems lots of people are having a crack at Chip.

I will offer an alternative view.

If he left during or 1st or 2nd rebuild I would have felt comfortable accusing him of a lack of loyalty given he was well paid during that time.

I don't think its fair on any player for that matter to have to endure 3 rebuilds and be expected to blindly accept that this one is the one that works and by the way you have already wasted much of your career here while dim wits that couldn't manage, coach or recruit with any degree of success want you to believe the house is in order.

We failed the players during those times and I don't think its fair to criticise someone who endured most of it before then deciding to leave for some certainty. He got his flag.

I blame those at the club in the pre PJ era 100% for his departure.

Frawley didn't ask to be drafted to a basket case football club.  Probably the worst in living memory.  

Years and years of beatings would weigh down the most resilient footballer.  Numerous senior coaches, numerous assistant coaches, continuous false dawns, and a time clock ticking over your career would make many players contemplate a move.  Eight years of service in that type of environment is nothing to sneeze at.

He got a chance to go to a powerhouse club and got his flag, which is what every player entering the system dreams of. 

I wouldn't want him back though.  We've moved on and have too many poor kicks out of defence to want any more.

You lot are a bunch of sad sacks. Loyalty in football is dead. The clubs are just as guilty as the players. Frawley left, it happened, move on.

That said, if you were in a job for eight years, busting your guts each week, watching the place go down the toilet, do you think you would stick around indefinitely hoping for things to change?

Or do you think you might leave if the competitor up the road, with fancy digs and dominating the competition, made you an offer that was equal to or better than your current deal?

Why should a footballer be expected to be loyal to his employer, when we wouldn't expect that of any other employee? Particularly given how short the careers of professional sportspeople are.

i have no time for the previous MFC  regime as i think most on here  already know. But i also hold the AFL of the day in contempt as well. 

To bring in Free Agency at the same time as 2 new franchaises was akin to murder. 

May Chip enjoy his cheap flag. We all saw him put up the white flag in 2014.
