Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

You're such an interesting poster Machsy.

You get up on that high horse with the flick of a switch.

This is a forum for MFC supporters and I've posted my opinion of Petracca as a player you insecure fairy.

Not once have I or do I claim myself an expert. Everyone is aware this is a football forum and people are entitled to share whatever views they hold. You're a strange guy.

I hear that you disagree with my view of Petracca and that's fine.

But I'll continue to rebut your stance on this 'tank' talk. Aerobic testing will show nothing but how fit he is at this moment in time..

Genetic predispositions to aerobic/anaerobic capacity and thresholds are really not that important at AFL level unless you're lacking majorly in other areas of your game. This is not an athlete competing in a running event in the Olympics. It's the AFL. No [censored] genetics help. But my argument is that once kids are playing in the midfield at state level, their 'fitness levels' and 'tanks' are already high. Some will have naturally better tanks, some won't be quite as strong. But once these kids get to the AFL, it's their appetite to work as hard as they can that will determine how fit they can become.

Tell me who has the best 'genetics' when it comes to endurance running out of:

Fyfe

Mitchell

Kennedy

Bartel (in his prime)

Ablett

Cotchin

Dangerfield

I'll answer it Machsy. Nobody cares. They've all got themselves to an extremely high level of fitness due to their work ethic. Some will obviously have a better natural fitness base but I don't ever hear anybody talking about it.

Don't forget Dane Swan line them all up in sillouhette and who would you pick as the least likely to have a tank, basing your decision on his physical appearance

The guy can play, that's never been at issue. However if we were to get a 30+ year old into the group he would want to be bringing leadership by the bucket loads like Cross does and really shouldn't need to get his head right at the stage of his career. He would also need to be durable. These are both negatives for Waite so that's a no from me.

Plowman over Toumpas also, Grundy sliding to 18 shocked me

there were knocks on Wines skills, although I must admit he has improved a lot in that area

Brett Anderson did a little mock up of what the 2010 - 2013 drafts would have looked like if they weren't compromised. he consulted some recruiting managers in ranking the players (as they were rated pre draft).

It's an interesting exercise, particularly in light of the discussion on our previous recruiting calls.

What I have heard is Todd viney wanted to pick wines but was overruled by neeld who wanted toumpas

not this crap again

Can you not comprehend that all that has led us to Roos & to the changes we've needed to take place foe over 15 Yrs. You oughta be thankful that our past almost 20 years, won't continue.

we are finally becoming a team & club that runs hard, & works for one another, as a matter of urgency. Instead of front running down hill'rs.

Brett Anderson from Inside footy says it's Cameron.

All very well, but what does Barrett, or is it Borat, say :-)

I would love Malceski - a classy ball user running off half back, who can slot straight in? Who would honestly say "no thanks"? I reckon we need that more than we need compensatory draft picks - if nothing else, it buys time to a) find the next young gun to play the role, and b) develop said young gun properly rather than relying on him immediately. Malceski's age might be the only thing to throw that in doubt; if he was 2 years younger I'd take him without question, regardless of the Frawley outcome.

Surely this is all a pipedream anyway, and it's just his management getting the media machine to do their work. I expect him to sign with the Swans.

As long as he can sneak up from defence and snap a GF winning goal for us, any price is right :-)

I would do pick 3,4 and Kent in a heartbeat

3 and 4 is more than enough

Dean Kent isn't steak knives, the kid will be a gun and we should definitely keep him

And how awesome is it that we have already poached 1 GWS gun and there may be more to come

Meanwhile they are stuck with $cully

And Jeremy Cameron just got put on ice for the rest of 2014

Perhaps hes already told the Giants hes leaving? hmmmm

perhaps he's told them he wants out, & so they've done a deal figuratively, so have put outa harmes way. so the deal doesn't come unstuck with bad luck ???

Yes, takes the pressure off the other key forewards, & is good for balance, plays both enz; @ once  ? swingman.

Buy the Pies, Tiges, Saints could also use his skill set. not to mention the Lions & Crows.

how do you know that most of this isn't to do the culture where he's been ?

It's much harder to change a poor culture that has become ingrained. For example, I doubt that Roos was devastated when Sylvia parted company wit the MFC, and Ross Lyon doesn't seem to have worked wonders with him at Freo.

giants are loaded up on talent that cannot get a game and talent that they have to pay bigger $$s to keep them as they come off their initial 1 or 2 year contracts. They cannot afford to keep them all, and because they have been able to vet them, they can cherry pick the ones they want to keep and offload those that they do not want for more high 1st round draft picks. They will be willing to trade to pick up the best of this years crop, it will obviously depend on what early draft picks melbourne has. The saints are capable of possibly winning another game or two, so could move from the bottom, so it is going to come down to the melbourne brisbane game to decide which draft picks we get. And of course it will depend on what Frawley does to determine if we get a second early 1st round pick. I would suspect Roos will be trying to put together something to get Malcheski to melbourne if he can without compromising our compensation for Frawley should he leave. All in all i think we are in a pretty good position to pick up a giant talent this time round.

Doubt pick 3, 4 for GWS Cameron and Shiel would do it.

No brainer from our end if that's the case.

Since Cameron is contracted, gun and different type to Patton and Boyd, GWS will want both 3 and 4 for him.

Prob something like Pick 3 + Pick 4 for Cameron and GWS Pick 22? (their second round pick).

Would anyone pull the trigger on that? Love Cameron but not sure.

I think I would rather us target Shiel before Cameron. Midfield support is something we need more than forward line support right now, in my opinion anyway.

Every day of the week. Cameron will be the best forward in the league despite his delayed second year blues.

Scully+Trengove for Cameron?

Toumpas+Cook/Salem for Cameron?

Easily worth the money, even without GWS' second pick.

On Shiel:

If Frawley leaves and we get a band one...

Shiel + 22 for 4?

Then we trade 22 to Sydney for Membrey and Towers, or we move it on and try find a Vince kind of deal.

How are we front runners to get Cameron? Whoever finishes bottom of the ladder whether it be saints or lions will want him and they'll have a better pick than us, our only hope would be if Chip does leave and we package our first pick and compo for him- and I'm not too sure that would be the wisest move considering we have more pressing needs in other parts of the field.

Gws would want too much for Cameron. My guess is whoever lands pick 1 will deal with GWS, GWS will then use that to grb petranca, which could enable us to use pick 2/3/4 to land shiel or perhaps a quality mid from another team who are interested in one of the fancied KPF types who are touted to go early.

Or of course we keep both our early picks and just take them straight to the draft.

Let's not forget, if we lose Chip we have cover for him in one Hoges.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
