Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

I would be ecstatic if we were able to land Goldstein via free agency. He'd be a huge addition going by our current ruck stocks and he'd be valuable in allowing time for Gawn and maybe Spencer to develop. It's a pity that Jamar is contracted for another year.

I agree but after losing Hale & McIntosh surely the Roos wouldn't let him go.

Not a big get, but I would go after Goldsack from the Pies. Works hard, tall forward and cool sounding name.. I think he is out of contract too.

I'd rather not take Goldsack, personally. Because he is not anything special at either end of the ground, but still wouldnt hurt.

I'd rather trade our picks and get a gun on a healthy salary

Mark Blicavs from Geelong should be a key target IMO. He is being played out of position at the moment due to Scott favouring both Simpson and McIntosh in the ruck. With his fitness he should be able to play a full game in the ruck and would benefit from any changes to the rules to open up the game. I am also not sure if he is skilful enough to make it in any other position than ruck. I am of the Leigh Matthews school of thought and don’t place much importance on hit outs, so I favour a mobile ruckman. His position in the Geelong side is questionable and could be even more so when Vardy returns next year.

Lachie Plowman and Jonothan O’Rourke are out of contract and we should be going hard with a big money PSD offer.

Colin Sylvia for pick 60ish wouldn’t be the worst trade. (And would make things entertaining around here.)

Jono O'Rourke would add class and height to our midfield. Style like Trent Cotchin and pick 2 in the 2012 draft.

Ryan O'Keefe just got dropped ast week and seems on the outer like cross was at the bulldogs. Wouldn't hurt to add another 200 plus games and finals experience to our list. Like Cross one of the most professional players in the competition in regards to diets and training ability.

Kristian Jaksch. Talented key forward who kicked some big bags for GWS twos last year and is good family friends with the Vineys. Pick 8 I think in the 2012 draft aswell.

I remember seeing Orouke and thinking he's special. GWS just cant find all of them in the team.

O'Keefe could be on his way to Melbourne if Sydney doesnt want him, or he is disgruntled. Roos would take him with open arms, as would the Melbourne Football Club.

Jaksch would also be a solid pick, havent seen too much of him.

I want Josh Jenkins though!

With regards to Free Agency it obviously depends on Frawley. If he leaves then we can't bring in any free agents unless we trade for them so we don't ruin our free agent compensation.

The positions I'd be looking to sign mature players in would be:

- 2nd ruck/forward to replace Clark

- Legitimate starting midfielders

- 25 touch per game quality half back flank

Largely I'd be letting Roos get on with developing drafted players. We need to take caution with Richmond's mature age and recycled collection of players who seem to be struggling.

I'd consider another GWS type deal but I think the lesson in those kind of deals is the most important thing is to get the draft pick right once you trade down. I don't care how good Tyson is if Salem is another bust. Those deals are about getting 2 for 1 so you have to be confident in both the player you get and the lower draft pick.

Because i watched his highlight package, very solid overhead.

Very athletic.

Just havent seen him play live

Ah, Barry Prendergast style? ;) But seriously, if Taylor, Viney and Roos pick him, that's good enough for me. They've picked well thus far.

If Chippa does leave and with Mitch gone we have a lot of cap room. I'd throw the world at Fyfe,Patton or Dangerfield but none will come across. Roos likes to find blokes we have hardly heard of. Mumford was a gamble that worked out pretty well for the swans. We might not go for top shelf players as everyone will throw all the cash at them but the second tier players don't have as much of a bidding war happening for them.

I can't see us winning more than 5 games and this given, I'd say the AFL will "award" a priority pick. That'll mean two picks in the top 10. It will be interesting to see.

I honestly think we are playing too well for a PP at the moment.

What about Tom Rockliff? Benalla boy, absolute gun player. Voss stuffed him around playing him out of position last year now Leppitch seems to be doing the same. Lions aren't gonna be good anytime soon. We have more upside than them surely. I think we had a crack at him last year. Not sure if he resigned but if not I'd be trying him again.

Luke Shuey - tough. fast. goalkicker. Offer the world and our 1st pick.

Luke Parker - 5 year deal. Exactly what we need. Huge grunt. Loves it hard and is tough as nails.

Brad Sewell - free agent. Sets the example. 2 year deal. Would teach the standard to others. No backwards steps.

Jono O'Rourke - class. Height and skilled midfielder. At 20, will be very very good within 12 mths

Adam Tomlinson - Jack Watts style but will attack the footy. Versatile and can develop into stromg leader. Pick 18-21 gets the deal done.

Nick Malcevski - exactly the half back we need. Tough. Melbourne boy. experienced. skilled left footer. Delisted free agent likely. Get into his ear now for a deal.

Whilst all are fantastic.

Tomlinson would not walk for pick 18-21. I'd say that well have to sweeten the deal, he's a gun

Anyone who can get on the park and stay there. If they can play a bit that would be a bonus.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
