Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 4

You like Nicholson's disposal? You really are a sucker for punishment!

Wet weather footy, hard physical stuff, it really is a day for Watts to hang out on a wing and watch the minutes go past. I hope we see something different from him.

Totally sick of Watts's efforts.

He has been in my favourites list since joining Demonland, he is now gone.

Replaced by players who are willing to put their bodies on the line.

Call me as mad as Queenie in Blackadder, Simple as Lord Percy, Brainless as Baldrick, but I'm going to put $ 20.00 on the Dees to win at " Edmund Blackadder Odds"!

Anyone else game for the upset of the round possibility?

I'm with you on this Byron. I intend having another lash (so to speak). I started the punt well this year with a good collect on the Cats but it's all turned to shite since.

You know it's a sad state of affairs when rolling another 0-3 team would be upset of the round.

Any kind of MFC win constitutes 'upset of the round'.

It's funny reading the delusion on here. Hope is all great, but delusion is, well, just that. You all realise we're the worst AFL team of the last 30 years, don't you? It would be the upset of a generation, and just isn't gonna happen.

Webber, we're struggling but we're not the worst AFL team of the last 30 years. By the end of the year, we won't even be the worst team of 2014. We're a better team than the past two years and we will only get better as we get some players back and come to terms with the demands of Roos and his gameplan.

Don't agree,

Upset of a generation would be us rolling the Hawks.

Rolling Carlton in the state they are in will be an upset, but if it occurs, you can be sure they will be talking about how Carlton lost rather than how we won!

To be totally honest i don't reckon it would be that surprising, Carlton have been very average and i reckon they are stupid if they aren't very nervous about this game

I don't know, I want to remain positive but I can't see it. I think this team is still 5-6 weeks away from a win. I mean, when was the last time this team actually surprised us? Against Essendon in 2012, and before that?

BTW if Melbourne loses it'll be its 13th loss in a row, stretching back to Round 14, 2013 when we beat the Dogs.

It is already Melbourne's longest losing streak since 1981/1982 when we lost 20 in row from round 4 1981 to round 2 1982.

So do I Andrew, both teams are desperate and the loser will cop heaps from the media.

Don't think I'll venture onto forums if we get rolled.

Melbourne won't cop it as much as Carlton would.

How spencil gets a game after having his opponent get 60 Hitouts is totally mystifying!!!

Get Pedo and or Georgio in Ruck as it will be wet and bring in another in and under! Jetta desperately unlucky not to get a gig, should have replaced Bail.

Spencer has played less than 30 games and has come up against a few very experienced and talented ruckmen. Give the bloke a chance.

This is a chance to potentially end Malthouse's career. I can't remember the last time I wanted to win this badly

He won't be going anyway. He'll stick around for 2-3 more years, build the squad. Reality is that this Carlton team can't really develop beyond what it's already capable of, and that's a 6-10th placed finish. Best to rebuild, otherwise you'll end up like Melbourne where you finish mid table for years on end and end up with a massive gap between seniors and juniors.
Neither coach is really "under the pump" when you think about the context of the teams' situations.''

Wet game, that means a slippery ball, lots of fumbles, bad kicking , misplaced handballs, turnovers, sounds like us every week.

So because we are used to it we should have an advantage! Our players are so used to trying to cover up shite disposal that we will look in our element and blitz Carlton.

That is my dream and I'm sticking with it, at least until late Saturday arvo.

Mandee, Carlton have turned it over more than us.

Damn, I hate it when someone steals your advantage.

We have had more clangers than them.

And they kill us for clearances they're 5th we are 18th.

On first appearances it looks like Pedersen has to play forward so he can give Spencer back up. But we know Pedersen can't play forward or second ruck but can do OK in the back half. I can't see any of Dawes, Frawley or Dunn plaing second ruck. Perhaps with Waite out perhaps Roos will play McDonald forward and as Spencer's helpmate. Frawley could take Henderson and Pederson and Georgiou should be able to handle Casboult and Rowe, if they both play forward.

Wow. Not a lot of big man talent in this game, is there!

We are in this game up to our eye balls. At least if the players want it bad enough. The new recruits will want a win, Roosy included. My concerns as usual are what we are going to get from Frawley, Grimes and Watts. Would like to see Nicholson included, I like his pace and disposal and believe he should get more of a go. Lets take em on!

Do we have two Nicholson's in the team?

I was hoping we had seen the last of Nicholson.

Which team has been worse? Excluding Fitzroy pre-fold. The improvement you see in the second half is the hope I spoke of, but at this stage, I can't see where it's going to come from. That said, I'll be ecstatic to be wrong.

St Kilda were pretty horrible for a long time.

Footscray were shyteful

There were some hidings in the mid 80's-then we came good.

Warnock is 17 zillion feet tall ! As badly beaten as Spencer was in the ruck last week unfortunately he will stay until we can get another ruckman in ( or he improves dramatically - one lives in hope)

Mandee, Carlton have turned it over more than us.

Stats and more stats - it only matters where you turn it over and what happens to your structure when you do turn it over.

So many of todays turnovers are caused by the extra man back and trying to kick over the zone and failing. The ball is turned over and comes back but you do have extras back and you get to watch "ping pong". Our turnovers are under little pressure and are about not hitting an easy target - our players have peeled off expecting forward movement and we just get carved up on the rebound.

The worst team in 30 years doesn't find itself in winning positions in two of the first three games. It's not much to hang our collective hats on but it's something.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
