It sure sounded like 25K from where I was standing at the game. The important thing was that the performance of the team was achieved in front of a near 60K crowd and will give the players a taste of the future if they want it.

Sandy just needs to get some practice in. They have had him in the bloody main studio up till now haven't they?

It's sort of a tag team combo with him, Eddie, and Huddo swapping around. I think Sandy tends to do mainly Melbourne games. I reckon his mistakes are simply about research, but mixing up Salem (no 3, Lebanese background) with JKH (no 24, indigenous background) is just woeful.

Eyesight on the way out, probably goes to the same optometrist as the umpires.

Brereton - "It's a big two point lead."

King - "It'd be one of the biggest wins for the year" (that would be Collingwood beating a less-fancied team at home).

IT'S been nigh on 27 years since Sandy Roberts made his famous gaffe, but it's still hilarious, so it will continue to make silly lists like this. The fresh-faced Robbo was MCing the 1982 Mount Gambier Cup meeting, when he took the microphone and proceeded to invite the reigning Miss Australia to the dais to present the time-honoured cup. That would be reigning Miss Australia Leanne [censored], whom Roberts introduced as, wait for it, "Leanne [censored]".

No going back from that one, Sandy. No "just a quick slip of the tongue" there.

It's a gaffe that never seems to die - just last year, Roberts was reading out the Collingwood team on the Channel Seven news, and the team included the newly recruited Brad [censored] and Shannon Cox. "It's amazing how things come back to haunt you," he joked afterwards. For the record, Leanne [censored] is married with three kids, and is now Mrs Leanne Cockerill. True story.

Note: Miss Oz was Leanne [censored]. Sandy introduced her as C0ck.

Note 2: Leanne [censored] is censored FGS, Dlck may not be, maybe.

How about one of the callers telling us at half time of Port and Sydney that Port (while behind) were showing they could mix it with the best. They were a game clear on top of the ladder at the time!

'Drain' Russell: "mark of the year". Often for the third time in the match.

Not so much 'commentary' but still worthy of a mention have to be Barrett's "Sliding Doors" articles every Friday.

Without doubt, the worst and most frustrating writing I have come across from a "professional."

It's hard to read with wincing. Get a load of this, if you dare.

Somebody obviously got too much praise from their mum whilst they were growing up.

That sliding doors stuff is a solid 7-9 minutes of writing each week by an intern that Barrett 'over sees'.

It's utter rubbish.

Well, I had a look at 'Sliding Doors' for the first time. I'm quite impressed. He's basically lifted the content from Demonland and presumably each other club and found someone willing to pay him for it.

Had to laugh when Finey on sen called Vernie Bince .

Just as well he wasn't calling that Gold Coast Rugby convert at the time.

Has anyone else noticed bruces voice when he gets excited by a passage or a goal? He gets his voice really low and adds in his best masculine growl, its hilarious. if you havn't noticed it, listen for it.

I notice it far too often, I struggle listening to him now.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
