When was the last time we had the top five players in a match? Even if it is the NAB cup, I'm celebrating tonight.

The thing is that we had four or five others on the night headed by Terlich who would have come close to that level.

How can Bail kick the near impossible (in the 3rd qrt) and then miss the easy set shots???

No doubt it will be something he will or is working on.

I hope Spencer makes it, but we can't keep giving away 2 goals a game. On topic, Frawley's decision making and execution doesn't warrant hanging out for elite money; but I guess the market is the market. Looks fit, but gets more kudos than he deserves week-in, week-out. Scully will be more of a loss, if Frawley does go IMO.

Other than Edwards' misses, Richmond were pathetic (and we made them look that way in many respects). They weren't far off full strength; whereas we were so far from it. Our turnovers gave them at least a third of the their goals.

Loved the fact we didn't bomb high and long to the boundary. Was sick of it after Neeldy's 3rd game.

Just hope our supporters stay smart and patient with our sometimes backward, slow steady and hopefully composed ball movement. I don't want to hear a thousand "just kick it long" screams by simpletons at the G this year.

Our best win since the often mentioned Sydney draw.

Warner has just smashed the living suitcase out of a ball from McLaren straight down the ground for six.

What a shot. Lead by 306 currently 1/115

Sorry back to footy.

Loved it when the commentators were making excuses for Richmond because the likes of Jack Riewoldt, Reece Conca, Ivan Maric and Daniel Jackson were all missing - as if we had a full side. Cracked up when they were scratching for more missing players and finally came up with Ricky Petterd.

I was shocked to see Blease have so few possessions, he seemed to be on the lead everywhere and was noticeable all night I guess that it's no use presenting if your teammates think you are always the wrong option.

Not sure what you do with him.

Watching him at training it seems he's really working on that leading to provide and option, but for a guy of such speed it's so worrying that he finds so little ball and when he does get it he runs in to trouble not out of trouble. JKH and Bail played the same position as Blease tonight but much more effective, they seem to understand where the ball is going but Blease is always a few steps behind.

I'd give him another shot at half back but I don't like his chances of becoming a defender, he's a bit too soft for that anyway and again the running in to trouble would be a worry. But maybe a 5 week spell at half back for Casey might teach him some more lessons about how to find cheap and easy footy. The other option would be to get him to tag the best midfielder at VFL level just for him to learn some work rate and positioning lessons.

Are we talking about the same Scully?

Frawley is an elite defender (who probably goes 70% at pre season comps as he should). When Scully wins an AA let me know.

Dime a dozen midfielder or one of the best defenders in the competition. No brainer and a must keep.

Can someone explain what I've missed with our use of the subs? After half time both our subs took the field - Evans and Barry - but the only player I didn't see again was Tyson. I had assumed JKH had been subbed out in the third, but then he appeared again in the fourth. And Fox told us Trengove and Blease had been subbed out when they clearly hadn't.

Loved it.

It's only pre-season but it's been too long between drinks. It wasn't a case tonight of the other side just totally falling asleep and us sneaking a win. (Ala Round 10 2012 vs. Essendon).

We actually kept with and overtook Richmond.
It's preseason but savour this. As Roosy said in the presser, we have a lot of work to do.

Missed the game due to work and I'm devo, but proud to hear regardless of result that the endeavour was there!

Wanting to know what happened Strauss, seen a few give him worst on? What did he and Spencer do so wrong?

It was a breath of fresh air watching our player chip is to each other to get the ball slowly out of the back line instead of just trying to boot the ball out of the back line to pack of player on the boundary only for it to come right back in.

After watch that game my first thoughts were "Neeld couldn't coach for [censored]!!!".

Subs are reset at half time in the nab cup

Nice to see what Hogan , Dawes and Viney will add. I don't think we'll be dull. Brighter times ahead.

The problem with Strauss is his man continually beats him on the lead.

Spencer is, well Spencer, he can do some very good things at times then make you want to cry when he does something so completely stupid you can't believe you saw him do it.

I think he puts too much pressure on himself and if he relaxed a bit the brain fades might be fewer.

As good as tonight was, I just thought I'd wheel this old chestnut out again:

Nah. I'll take whatever enthusiasm I can get these days.

Does everyone know its 18 games in 18 days?

The fox commentators seem to need to repeat every bloody 5 mins.

It's driving me nuts!!!!!!!

Why Chook?

Come on!!

Chook remembers that Neeldy's demons beat the reigning premier in week 1 of NAB cup too….perhaps.

But this is different….surely.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
