Neeld weighing up footy comeback

I don't any bloke that puts guys like Pederson on 3 yr terms is NQR , and I'm lead to believe Rodans still on the payroll this season , I know this has been discussed before but there's a reason why guys like Ratten get another gig and blokes like Neeld are virtually demoted to a PE Teacher, it was his way or the Highway and Karmas a [censored].

Or Bailey for that matter.

I don't think Melbourne having a good season will 'stick it up' Neeld.

Maybe before being a complete [censored], have a think about what you would think of some ill-informed forum poster writing crap like that about your mate, or your dad or uncle or something.

He's actually a really good guy, who didn't do a great job. It doesn't mean it is necessary to publicly [censored] him at every opportunity.

I'd love it if we all got to watch you work all day and, when it didn't go so well, get on here and hang [censored] all over you about it.

Seriously...

2 wins........what do you expect...?

Do you know him? How do you know he's a 'really good guy'. Crickey, he treated the players very poorly. So stop this BS. But yes it's time to move on.

No, you're right, I don't know him. But I do know people who know him very well, and they report nothing but good things.

You're probably right too, in that I've heard some stories about his interactions with some players. Sounds to me like he misjudged how best to deal with at least a couple of them. I don't know, though, about treating them 'poorly'.

He wasn't right and didn't get results, but that doesn't give people on this site the right to pretend he was Hitler or something.

What does anybody gain out of going over and over and over this ground? Absolutely nothing.

It's a matter of not thinking the worst of people.

We hired a bloke who had every intention of doing the best job he could and making us a success. He didn't come for big money, he came to try and lift us to success. It would never have been his intention to demoralise the club as he did.

We all know the end result. I am glad he does not coach us but I do wish him all the best "in his future endeavors".

Lastly as to winning to "Stick it up Neeld" - I don't for a minute believe anyone at the club ( especially the players) would need that for motivation. (Imagine if you told a forward thinker like Roos that your motivation to succeed was to stick it up Neeld)

Who knows whether Neeld even wanted to be back in the AFL in 2014? Perhaps the best strategy for him is to stay away from any form of AFL involvement for at least 12 months before returning.

Another way to look at this would be to argue that Ratten "got another gig" in the AFL straight away as he had no employable possibilities anywhere else so took whatever he could get whereas Neeld has more strings to his bow and looked beyond the AFL. I just think making an argument that Ratten is somehow better than Neeld because Neeld's not coaching in the AFL in 2014 is a superficial argument based on short-term evidence. It's rather like arguing that Kevin Rudd would never be PM again after being dumped by his own party in 2010.

@SamLandsberger: Mark Neeld takes over from Anthony Parkin as Eastern Ranges talent manager in the TAC Cup.

Parko Jnr must have got a better offer.

I hate to say I told you so but I said it would be hard for him to get back into the system...

That's if he was actually trying to get right back in the system.

As difficult as it was for MFC to have appointed him, it must have been a terrible experience for him.

He was a poor choice and he failed in his position.

I hope he finds a role thats more fulfilling and that he more suited to. Being an AFL coach was not one of them.

Maybe. I got the feeling at his final presser that he was going to press to be an assistant at another club (at least there were rumblings that he might get a job at either North or Carlton). Perhaps later on, he thought a bit more about his skill set and temperment and decided that the big leagues weren't for him. They aren't for everyone.

Agree with Rhino.

Neeld took a mauling last year, and hard to imagine that he would be wanting to go back into an AFL position at the moment. If this is where he feels he can find his feet and contribute, then good luck to him.

I think whilst he's on AFL senior coach salary in terms of his payout for this year he can do a more relaxed job as a TAC talent manager and then try and get back to the AFL system in a year or two. At that time hopefully we improve and that could be spun to work in his favour as a legacy. He was a highly regarded and successful assistant at Collingwood. He was obviously hard working and had enough coaching ability as an assistant to hide what I think are some pretty gaping man management skills. There's no reason he can't work out as an assistant again under the right senior coaching leadership..

Just become aware that he is a columnist for the Geelong Advertiser.

Here are Neeldy's thoughts on list management and what makes for a successful side: http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/sport/afl/here-are-the-key-questions-afl-clubs-recruiting-staff-are-asking/story-fnjuhrq4-1226956065785

And he would know!

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
