Barry is reported as being 183 cm and 70kg; JKH is reported as 175 cm and 67kg. If weight was the only issue, JKH wouldn't be playing so I'm not sure Barry will remain on the primary list if he hasn't played a game by the end of the year.

Different positions, different strengths, different ability.

You've got to judge individual cases on their own.

JKH has a lower centre of gravity and has played a lot more football than Barry who from what I know, switched sports later on in his schooling years. Two years isn't enough for someone of his level of experience, body size and understanding of what is required to make it.

He is a similar case to Jayden Hunt and I'd be very surprised if he was delisted at the end of the year.

Based on what? On the fact that he starts every game as one of the 18 players on the ground. Last I checked, that makes him "Starting 18".

When was the last time he was omitted from the side due to form? (Has he ever been omitted due to form?)

I've done a Gob Bluth here - I was talking about Tapscott. Saw the reference to Tapscott at the end and misread the earlier reference to Terlich, who right now is definitely starting 18.

Dunn and Spencer updated. Clisby and Riley may not be OOC so keep that in mind. Cross looks almost certain to get another year if he wants it.

Clark is already off the list of course. Frawley may leave of his own accord.

Before I start to look at who to delist I always like to look at what we have coming into the club.

Picks 5, 23, 41, and 59 will probably be enough from the ND. Frawley's decision is irrelevant here as he will either take a spot or give us Pick 6. Our 5th rounder will be Pick 80 something by the time compensation picks are handed out and that can go to Jetta for his elevation. No FAs will be picked up due to uncertainty around Frawley IMO. We may trade away picks for players but that is even more up in the air.

I will allow space for one Delisted FA to be picked up.

That leaves 4 ND picks, Jetta upgrade, and one DFA pick up. The Pre Season Draft is pointless at this point, especially with a few clubs below us.

So that is 6 vacancies required: Clark, Nicholson, Tapscott, Strauss, Byrnes, and Blease are the ones in the gun with Terlich's decision making and howlers obviously frustrating those in charge.

I'm guessing that Riley's contract was more than 1 year as the club knew his leg injury would take some months to improve enough for him to play. It would hardly seem worth it to Riley or the club to come over from SA for only 1 year but don't really know.

Reckon both Evans & Fitzpatrick will be offered as trade with draft picks for upgrades. Example Evans & our 4th rounder to St Kilda for their 4th rounder, even if it only improves our position by 1 or 2 it will still get him off the list. Fitzpatrick may get us a little more.

Can't believe they were given the chance to redeem themselves that they have taken. Their spots on the list should have been taken by Pick 95 and Rookie Draft pick 55 last year!

Evans was given a two year contract last year during a period where he was showing promise. Two year contracts are standard and he clearly wasn't a "delist" priority at that stage (and we delisted a shirtload of players as it was).

It's frustrating when you find yourself stuck with players who appear to be no good, but at the time I took no issue with his re-signing (and indeed, was pleased with it), so I'll pass on the Harry Hindsight analysis of it now.

And as rpfc said, who's to say he won't pluck a rabbit out of the hat like a few of the other NQRs of yesteryear?

As for Evans, I have never seen anything to suggest he's any better than a battling VFL player.

Spencil is still only 24, which is still fairly young for a ruckman. Although I much prefer Gawn as a ruck prospect, Spencer could very well surprise us in the next couple years.

IMO Evans still has a lot of upside. He has never had any stretch of time without being injured, but he is fast and a far better user of the footy than say Nicholson.

What is the cost? What has been the opportunity cost that has been so devastating?

I will answer for you - he was a rookie selection and all he has taken is a spot on the list for a team that has zero problem finding list spots for potential recruits.

He is a competent back up ruck and means we don't have to go looking for ruck depth or build a tall kid from scratch to back up Jamar.

I have no problem with having Spencer on the list in 2015 and 2016.

RPFC, if you're going to hold onto blokes until they turn 27 (Pederson), or give 5 ft 9" back-pocket players 6 years on the list before they show something, we will never move up the ladder. Even the club knew Pederson was a spud when Roos and co told him he'd be paid out at the end of this year if he didn't improve. I am pleased that they have proven me wrong and Roos has turned them into serviceable, good ordinary AFL players.

You scoff at me wanting to delist these players for late draft picks and rookie picks yet last year we could have taken a Tom Derickx with a delisted free agent pick before the draft and we would have a better player than Spencer and Fitzpatrick. We could have taken Jonathon Simpkin the year before and had a better player than Evans and McKenzie. Jeremy Laidler was there last year and he gets a regular game at Sydney. Pick 95 in the National Draft could have got you Eli Templeton who showed as much in 5 games as Jetta did in 5 years. Anthony Miles could have been taken late in the ND.

Given you have to make at least 4 changes (I believe?) I would be really disappointed if a club in our position only gets rid of 6.

How you can call Spencer 'competent' back up is beyond me given opposition sides moon-walked the ball out of the centre square until Jamar came back. So you are defending the hypothetical removal of Pedersen and Jetta?

You name the few valuable assets we could have got at the point but the chances they would get something worthwhile are infinitesimal.

Roos backed himself to get something from these known commodities than risk getting a speculative talent.

And as for Spencer - he is a back up ruck, but he did help us win against Carlton and played a few games injured so that Jamar didn't have to be rushed back too quickly. I thought that was selfless and worthy of reward - and he got that reward.

If your back up ruck was a world beater, he wouldn't be your back up ruck...

I don't actually think Spencer is a 'competent back-up' and, frankly, I'm still disappointed that after six years on the list he's still only at the 'competent back-up' stage. But that's what he is, and in the context of our list he clearly needs to still be here. It's not even close to our weakest link, either.

To me, on the list of contracts, Blease, Tapscott, Strauss, Byrnes, Nicholson and Terlich should be the ones most worried. They probably won't all go as it's pretty rare that everyone you think will go actually goes, but that's got to be the core group of six that just cannot be a serious part of our future at the moment. Of course, there is still 8 weeks left and who knows what may happen from here, but if the season ended today that's as good a group of a 'bottom 6' as you're going to get from our list and they happen to all be out of contract.
