WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

Yeah I'd say so. But Adelaide could still be wanting to get some draft picks in. Looking at their list they've got a decent ruck, decent spine under the age of 24 (Talia, Otten, Walker, Jenkins) and some gun midfielders 25 and under (Dangerfield, Sloane, Crouch, Kerridge, Grigg and co) plus Van Berlo (27), Douglas (26) and Scott Thompson (30).

Makes some sense they trade out Vince now and secure a decent draft pick so they keep bringing youth in to a very talented list. Just a matter of if they make the gutsy move. If I was them I'd do it for pick 20 for sure. Get one of the top 15 mids who everyone rates pretty highly.

True, I forgot about the fact they have no early picks. Really hope we can get Vince - should play Sylvia's role perfectly. More consistently too, but perhaps with a lower ceiling.

You're right that he'd be more consistent than Sylvia, and that's thanks to how hard he works both ways. Something that Sylvia wouldn't do.

Vince is a gut runner and whilst he doesn't have that 'X factor' or perhaps aerial ability that Sylvia would occasionally show, he'd be a fantastic replacement. He'd set a great standard at training as well, something else Sylvia found hard to get his head around. More influential and inspiring for our kids, and that's what we want. More of 'em!

I'm still crossing my fingers.

Can I just say that it is good for footy that 12 months after PA was where they were at they are the preferred destination for a talented SA boy coming home.

That is very welcome.

It's nice for them. But I think it also reflects that Adelaide still have the edge in midfield and half back depth of talent. Although Port with Hinkley have shown a great propensity to develop talent and the fitness guru is a key reason for Polec's decision I would say. He needs to go somewhere that he will feel like his body will allow him to play!

Either Adelaide clubs would be very attractive right now for a player getting traded as long as you were happy to live in Adelaide.

I have recently returned from South America. May I suggest that you try some Argentinian Malbecs. You won't have too many half full bottles of red left to clean up in the morning, they'll be empties.

I rarely have any bottle half full at the end of a night, mostly empty but will try some Arg Mal to see what transpires! Can't go past a good Rutherglen Red though!

And what a deep midfield they are putting together.

I'm jelly.

Although, they are only in a 2 club town.

We've got a bit more competition, and a bit more work to do.

Please let me know how you go. May I suggest that Alamos Malbec is a cheapy but a goodey.

Looks set to join us for pick 20!.. bold move, hope he pays off

Not surprising though, plus that pick may end up being 22-23 once compo picks go through.

What I found more interesting was what GWS have offered for Pick 2 - Matt Buntine, Tom Bugg and Pick 9. Not sure how I feel about that.

Am i the only one thats a bit iffy with sending pick 20 to a 28 year old with knee issues before? I mean i would love Vince but pick 20? If the four year deal is true to be honest id rather that go towards Lyons who is younger and much more upside.

Unless Lyons doesn't want to come to us.

Vince has missed a handful of games over the past 3 seasons, so I don't think his knee issues are a major concern. The club would have conducted the medical tests as well, so if we are offering 3 years with an option for a 4th they must not look too bad.

We aren't going to solve all our woes in one trade/draft. This is a stepping stone, a determined correction of the wrong direction we've been heading in.

Bernie Vince is on the cusp of signing a lucrative long-term deal to join Melbourne.

The Crows and Melbourne are understood to have agreed to a trade where the Crows would gain pick 20 for Vince, who is holidaying in the US and yet to sign off on the deal.

The 28-year-old, contracted for one more year at Adelaide, has been offered a three-year deal to join the Demons' midfield, with a trigger for a fourth season.

A ready replacement for Sylvia. And the female fans stay interested !! Pick 20 is slightly over but we had to get the deal done. This is more targeted than Neeld's scattergun !!

If that is there offer it means that there is interest and that is their starting point.

The MFC boys have shown that they can negotiate with the best.

Suggest that the counter offer will be Shiel, Bugg and pick 9.

Now that would be interesting.

Agree. I would want Lyons as well for 20. 28 year old with injuries for 20, no thanks.

We throw in Jamar, Tapscott and Bail which makes room on our list for draft picks.

I'm happy with this assuming we get band 3 (I think that'd be about 23 for us?) compo for Syliva.

Essentially it'd be out: Sylvia, in: Vince. Not bad considering we didn't have a choice in Sylvia leaving in the first place.

If the compo is less than that, then we just have to hope Vince was worth it.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
