Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wasn't sure where to broach this so figured here might do.

We at the curtain raising of the silly season aka EOS circus. Always starts earlier for us than many as we are but spectators to the big end of the season.

Out FD dept scouting and recruiting will have been working and burning the midnight oil again I'm sure collating info on where we are and who's out there as potential new players for the grand ol' flag.

Now we have Mr Roos on board all efforts no doubt will swing behind attaining players of the ilk that suits the direction Roos wishes to take us.

There are readers out there with far better memories and indeed knowledge of what transpired at Sydney during their Roos era and I was hoping some learned sorts might enlighten the rest of us as to , almost not so much the who of their drafts/trades etc , but the how.

By this I mean how is it likely the P man will go about getting his new charges. I sense Roos is a master of smoke and mirrors. . Just look at the process whereby he came to us; all classic look here- I'm over there etc

Sydney did gain a rep, a good one at that , of masterfully selecting underutilised or overlooked players and bringing them into their fold.

Do we take any murmurings of Roos meeting with Martin etc ( true or otherwise ) as indication of intent or more the craft of the masterful magician ?

Who is Roos likely to seek out nd how does he get his man ?

cheers

Had a chat with my old man after the gf today. He has predicted, and I am not kidding, that Buddy Franklin will become a Dee. He has apparently heard Roos on a number of occasions talk about how good Buddy would be in the midfield and thinks that Roos has already got him stitched up. Could you imagine? God bless the old fella

He was a Dees supporter growing up...

but right this second he has the largest offer ever made to an AFL player sitting on the table, infact 1 mil more than the previous largest offer if you believe reports, he will go to GWS because it will secure his financial future and he won't get that sort of offer again.

I'm interested in the option of recruiting the likes of Paul Chapman and Daniel Cross who could add their experience and talent to the list and help our young blokes in their development phase. I suppose this would be a continuation of the experiment with Byrnes and Rodan but the first two have a bit more class and ability and could make a more significant contribution to the team's overall performance. On what I've seen, Cross would improve our midfield while a fit Chapman crumbing at the feet of Clark, Dawes, Hogan and Howe might well kick 30 - 40 goals in a season.

The question is whether Roos is inclined to go in that direction.

We also have to take into consideration that we don't become the "Pension Club" for older players wishing to cash up prior to retiring.

It's a fine balance and one which I am more than happy to have Paul Roos in charge of.

For the first time in a long time I have hope and faith in the club and its decisions it has made and will make.

Surely his financial future is already secure, this argument doesn't hold a lot of water.

This is a godfather offer though,no one could refuse unless they want to actually play to win flags.

I reckon Buddy Franklin will be at GWS next year.

Spoke to Gubby Allen yesterday about Taylor Adams. He gave away nothing, other than to confirm that he will be playing for a club in Melbourne next year. I suspect it's not the MFC unfortunately.

Sheedy ran down the MFC all night and joked how excited the Dees were that we landed Roos. "Might get them to 14th on the ladder next year". We have no respect.

He said Jolly would be a great pick up (ala John Barnes in 2000) and said GWS would have a crack. I told him, and the other 400 people in attendance, that he'd be a Demon next year. (I hope everything I read here is true.)

Gubby Allen, whilst not giving any info on the trades, winked and quite sincerely said to me - "Roos will turn you guys around next year. I guarantee that." I know I'm not saying anything new in stating this, but everyone rates Roos.

Also had 50 bucks on Gunston for the Norm Smith at 41/1. Everyone at the GWS function thought he was BOG. Nearly necked myself.

Interesting to run down a team who has never finished below his team on the ladder, even during the clubs most worst period....

oh well I suppose that's classic Sheeds.

Roos' pattern while at Sydney was to trade his first or second round draft pick to get a 22 - 24 year old player from another club, and this player would end up straight in the 22. Shaw, Richards, Mattner etc... Usually it was one of this type of trades per year but someone with access to stats might be able to clarify this. He actually used draft selections later than no. 30 to pick up young players. If history is any guide he will continue to use this model. With a lot of trades on offer this year it could be a real win/win for MFC.

So I reckon we will only trade in 2 players:

- 1 young gun midfielder (plus other pick) for our no. 2 pick - Swallow, Sloane, Adams

- 1 older player for a much later draft pick - Chappy, Cross, etc...

The fly in the ointment is our play for Heath Shaw. It sounds like MFC are going hard for him and this could mean a third trade.

Middle rounds draft picks will pick up youth.

Roos loves getting taalented players who aren't getting much game time at good sides. I imagine we'll target midfielders from sides like geelong and hawthorn. One I would love to get is george horln-smith, reckon he can really play and we would be ble to offer him way more money and opportunities than geelong.

Geelong rate Horlin-Smith very highly, they talk about him as leadership material. Heard Ling and Balme praise him in the media.

I'm doing my best to remember all the mud that has been thrown at us so I can remind these tossers when we come good.

Found this little snippet from his Academy coaching days. Very insightful, you would think this would be a style of lay next year. Expect a lot of free flowing play which is good to see instead of the defence choke which didn't work under Neeld.

Massive emphasis on spread to which we struggled with..

Even though they are kids he does not go easy on them. Still cannot believe we have him as our head coach..

Really enjoyed those videos. Thanks. Doesn't it inspire confidence. My assessment is that when we have a solid and not scetchy game plan we'll be far more competitive. Can't wait for round 1!

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
