Jack Watts Sunday Footy Show

lol

maybe we wouldnt have gotten Roos if Jack hadnt have demanded it

If we had a Ablett type player who just spoke about re-signing then we could rejoice. But we only rejoice because of Jacks potential. This year Jack Fitzpatrick had more impact then Watts. He needs a reality check. As of now he is a middle of the road player. Not good but not bad. His career so far does not deem him worthy of acting like a superstar holding off contract talks.

Roos can see the potential and vice versa. I expect big things of both of them this year and was one of the minority (on these Forums) who predicted a top 8 finish in 2014.

Its great that we have met Jack's demands.

I really dislike this disingenuous attitude.

Jack, as any player coming out of contract, is entitled to consider his options.

I don't blame him for having Malthouse and probably many more trying to poach him.

Watts is undeniably talented, and has undeniably underperformed.

2 key ingredients to getting a "win" trade.

If I barracked for another team, I'd be hoping they'd angle for Watts in a trade with insufficient compensation, in the hope we'd be trying to cut our losses since we've been unable to capitalise on his potential.

The key in a trade like that is convincing him to push for a move, which probably means offering him slightly over the odds, and causing his hesitance.

None of it is rocket science.

agreed

the days of any player having some sort of automatic loyalty to the jumper ahead of their own personal interests are long, long gone

and right up until the day before Roos signed up we were/are an absolute basket case of a club that any player would have to strongly consider leaving. We are still that, but Roos is a chance of changing it.

When it's Watts, they're 'demands'.

I guarantee if it was Jack Viney, people would be saying 'good on him for taking a stand on his career, what a legend, he owes this club nothing' etc etc.

Jack Viney would probably never hold off contract talks though plus I think the situation is different because we have invested a lot in Watts (both time and pick 1).

Have we?

Pick 1 maybe, but he never asked to be pick 1.

Time? Is that it? So we haven't delisted him by now, so he owes us?

What we should have invested in him up til now is the resources to develop him into a star of the competition.

So far we've not yet done that.

I'm just glad he is staying and hope Sylvia does too because l'm sick of seeing our players at other clubs....apart from $cully and McLean, good riddance to those two tossbags......

I have no issue at all with Jack having a look around to see if there are better options for him, wasn't a huge fan of his attitude on the footy show, but that's really the fault of the club and his manager for allowing him to go on the show when he was clearly undecided,

don't buy the talk he is only not going to Carlton because all the money is going to dale thomas, i think Roosy has sat him down, explained his plan for him, how important he is and convinced him to stay on, well done to the club for getting the right coach in place to hold onto these sorts of blokes.

I just hope Jack is staying because Melbourne is a place where HE can get the best out of HIMSELF.

Not because of some belief Roos will do it for him.

The old regime very well might have held Jack back. But at the end of the day coaches can only do so much and it's not like they were holding him out of senior footy and chances of different positions. They went to far the other way.

If he left it would've been because Melbourne couldn't develop him, which in it's own way is just as much an indictment on him as it would be us.

That said I am now pretty confident he will soon re sign with us for the next few years.

I don't know if you're suggesting this by 'few', but I think a long-term contract for Watts would be difficult. On actual on-field output to date he'd be lucky to get near $200k, but he'd have to figure that a coach like Roos could help improve his game and his value would increase nicely in a couple of years. A two-year deal would be in his best interest and that would be my guess as to what we end up with.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
