I may have missed something strange, but since when does GWS have pick 10? I've seen this posted dozens of times on Demonland and do not compute. Even if they did, that's a pretty hopeful deal from a Melbourne perspective.

GWS have an activated Mid 1st Rnd compensatory pick.... http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-03-19/giants-suns-to-activate-picks

.... so this will be at the spot essendope sits, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think so.

They would have had 20 reasons to sack him if there was any.

I am not certain of this but I remember when he was trying to get a gig after Brisbane.

I seem to remember an agent making the comment that it was not allowed under the player agreement.

I thought it was at Caaarlton.

when he was playing up continually.

Relying on Roos to sort Martin out has one big drawback:

Roos is here for 2 or at most 3 years. He will then be replaced by someone as yet unidentified. Will 2 (or 3) years under Roos be enough to remove all the traces of DH from Dusty? Or will the timebomb start ticking again the day Roos lays the clipboard aside?

7 news has confirmed that Roos has defnitely spoken to Martin's manager

I don't like it. Now I don't profess to have any knowledge off what dusty does off field but if rumours are true we may be picking up a poisened chalice.

Nothing to do with wanting nice guys but I am not sure we are the right club for this guy.

How do we know that the tiges not actually pulling a swifty and quietly hoping to grab a great pick and move him on?

Everyone is so scared of such ridiculous things!!!

The MFC are desperate for on field performance, a bit of arrogance and some genuine balls.

Martin is only after money! It's as if the guy has been involved in some sort of criminal activities or something!

Get him to the club!!!!

We have a 10 fold better support system than we used to.

The MFC need to start making these kinds of decisions if we're going to stay alive.

They had a mid first round compensation pick which they have activated for this coming period. This becomes Pick 10 in the current draft order.

I think you need to have some confidence in whats happening @ the club......PJ along with Roos etc are making changes to change the culture which will continue after Roos is gone eg Swans with Longmire & Scott @ Geelong. The culture should either change players mindset or force them out. eg Barry Hall

If we are trying to build a good culture at our club this is the last player we want.

Honestly, the guy is bad news. Officially the guy has stayed out of any major headlines but one simply does not attract the reputation young Dusty has got without good reason.

I don't know him personally but I know people from central Vic that know him and the stories you hear are not ones you'd expect of a professional AFL footballer. I'm sure you can all put the pieces together as to what he allegedly gets up to.

Would take him in a heartbeat without the baggage.

you can't post that without clarifying so we have an 'informed' view.

if we offer him 700 k a year for 3 years i reckon we'd be a good chance, seems he is clearly chasing dollars.

Martin, Cross and Adams makes a serious improvement to our midfield.

Very good footballer but the risk is massive, so are his demands. Wouldn't bend over too far to get him but a similar player without baggage would be high on our priority list. What we are forgetting is we need a huge dose of legspeed and endurance running. Martin offers a bit of endurance but is not lightning fast. Very risky consideration for us! I say no. Roos would know more and will be circumspect in his overall consideration!

He figures a bad boy culture is better than a pulseless one? Remember Barto wants some mongrel. THIS GUY is bikie level mongrel.

I think it would be a good tactic to target 22-25 year olds every year for our first draft pick. It would mean we get the best 8-10 years of their career.

Then what's going on with Watts who takes 5 years + to reach potential and will be a free agent at the end of his next contract.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
