Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I reckon Martin is worth the risk on a big money, two-year deal via the PSD. While he is a great footballer, he isn’t worth pick #2 given his off field behaviour.

Agreed Tone. It's a risk enough letting Martin into our club, don't want to trade pick 2 for him as well. However, not sure we'll get him without offering something of the ilk of pick 2. Other options for pick 2 that people on here have suggested are Swallow, Adams or Sloane. Which would you prefer?

By god his old man is one scary looking beast. I got a fright just opening that photo of him.

Rumour going around St Kilda have offered 650k

That makes sense. NOT!! There was an article in the last week saying two St Kilda players have just cancelled a planned trip to Las Vegas with Martin after Watters told them it wasn't on. Especially after the problems created by the setting the dwarf on fire incident. I would have thought Dusty would be the last player on St Kilda's mind with all their current and ongoing off field problems.

Why do people think that we are able to get any player we want via the PSD? It's ridiculous!

Oh, lets get Adams, Swallow, Martin, what about we ask Ablett to come through the PSD to us? Why wouldn't he?

Paul Roos went from Fitzroy to Sydney via the pre season draft. Just sayin...

Other notables to do the same include Ben Cousins and Nic Stevens.

Saying this again..........

Roos has a history of taking on troubled players.

Saying this for the first time.......

Roos took on troubled players into a side that had an established bloods culture in place where there were clear senior leaders and clear expectations and consequences. I think Roos will wait until he has developed the same culture at MFC before taking a risk with some one as volatile as Martin. Perhaps at a pinch he might take a risk with an untried young player in the draft like Gartlett but not Martin

We are always better off going for someone out of contract, as we are then dealing with a forced seller. For this reason we are better of going for Adams and Martin ahead of Swallow and Sloane. We can always use pick 2.

Paul Roos coached Davis, Shaw, Everitt and Hall..... These guys were all D-heads.

This no D-head policy is nonsense and a media beat up.

The phrasing would be more accurate if it was the "we will make you not a D-head" policy.

Go get Dusty.

And he got rid of Davis and Hall while they were still seasons away from needing to retire. As far as I am aware Shaw was never a DH issue and Everitt only played a handful of games because of injury and form. But he wasn't a Dusty off field.

Struggling to see what deals could be done to satisfy Richmond in all this if its not GWS he's going to (and their special poaching rules).

Would Martin be worth our Pick 2?

On skill and as a player alone, absolutely. With his attached off-field misdemeanors and likeliness of looking for better deal when this one expires, probably not. He is currently within a great culture and at a club well and truly on the rise.

Because of the later, I would prefer David Swallow.

St Kilda probably wouldnt take him even though they should

Carlton will most likely over pay and take Daisy so cant see him going there

Melbourne has the money

GWS has the money

Hawthorn will surely be needing to fill in the spots for their next rebuild (Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell) but they need to think about a possible replacement for Buddy if he goes

Dusty's biggest motivator is money. Just depends who thinks they can turn him around and put up with his antics.

I'd prefer Swallow than Martin.

"Which clubs are in the race for Martin?

MELBOURNE

On the front line of betting. Paul Roos is going shopping. He knows the Demons need a serious injection of talent - in the midfield more than anywhere. Had a great record at Sydney for getting players on the straight and narrow. Would be some compensation for the Demons losing Tom Scully, who went at No.1 in the same draft as Martin.

Richmond needs another ruckman; we have a surfeit of ruckmen (although of questionable merit). I don't think we should recruit Martin, but I'd be quite happy to participate in a three way trade of Spencer to Richmond, Martin to team X, such as GWS, and decent player from team X (who wants to leave GWS?) to us.

It's so funny that everyone was saying we should have picked him up instead of Scully because he was clearly more loyal and was going to repay richmonds faith. Well he hasn't.

Mind you he fits our bill, midfield, good kick, 10 years left in him.

We have some money freed up and could offer Richmond a trade with Sylvia if they are really keen!

That being said, he is selfish, money hungry and does not really hang out in the best circles, and I think this has something to do with him wanting to move!

not so funny really, when its what people new on face value.

& on face value they would be correct. word was also that we didn't even bother to talk to him. this apparent attitude angered many, in the face of many very bad recruiting decision prior to that year, & since.

..... so, no, you don't get to laugh at the posters, who rightly said we should have been more open to talking to all the top draftees. the posters were right we should talk to all the Rnd 1 potentials... & let the supporters know we did as well. After all, its the supporters wherewithall the club spends.

after all that said, in hindsight its a big no now for Martin, from me anyway.

cunnington, freeman, Adams, ++++++ there must be a number of players we can talk to.

I'm not sure anyone would be too thrilled to be recieving Spencer in that deal...

Saying this again..........

Roos has a history of taking on troubled players.

He took on some players who had trouble performing well on field at previous clubs. I don't ever remember Hall having big off field issues, maybe the odd indiscretion. Shaw's issue was more to do with a GF. Who are all these troubled players Roos has a history of taking.

The Sydney location factor let alone the culture was also big. The players could get away from the limelight and media scrutiny of a football state.

Nick Davis - One of the laziest players ever.

Rhyce Shaw - An original "rat pack" member, involved in drink driving incidents.

Barry Hall - Was always seen as an on-field ticking time bomb.

Spida Everitt - Can't think of a major factor but come on, it's Spida.

"MELBOURNE is considering parting with Pick No.2 in the national draft to land Dustin Martin.

The Herald Sun has learnt Demons coach Paul Roos has had several discussions with Martin’s manager Ralph Carr in the past week.

The Demons c

Very hard to get a good trade done here. I wouldn't want to give pick 2 for him and they wouldn't take our 2nd round. Pick 2 for Martin + their first pick? Not likely.

Is he under contract to Richmond FC? (i.e. How much say do they get if he wants to come to us for cash?) Maybe the AFL get give RFC a draft pick like they did to GWS when we lost Scully chasing the cash!

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
