sorry ...whats that...

We have no say, despite your prostestations.

There fore we have to take whats given...until we get a say.

We happily ( many of us ) stand up and be conted, but you see theres no venue, and no occasion for this counting.

Of course you can have a say, how many posters on this board, there is a constitution, if we get enough to sign, we can call an extraordinary GM, but it is getting sufficient numbers to sign, and people to drive, hence why the 'select' few do it for us

Political rhetoric designed to win votes. Less BS, more footy.

quite possibly, very likely.

I dont particularly want Stockdale, I have my reservations.

So far however he is the only one in any way advocating that the members be included. That alone I applaud.

If there were only one standing or interested,,,then its a lay down misere. Not much to do . but is it.?

A talk-back caller on KB's show this morning said that Jeff Chapman has been approached as a possible President.

Jeff played 2 games for MFC under Norm Smith. He is on BRW's rich list at No.75.

Who cares? I don't want Eddie and his pie culture anyway. Give me the Cats or Swans any day of the week. I don't even know who their presidents are.

Oh, this isn't good...

Does anyone else feel ill when someone uses "the fans right to decide" and in the next breath wants the AFL to install them immediately?

He doesn't want the AFL to be puppet master unless he is the puppet.

I guess we are headed for an EGM and an incumbent AFL-endorsed ticket and a ticket led by Stockdale.

Unless sense and unity intervenes.

just how does he propose "that the members be included"?

He isn't proposing anything. He's appealing to the masses by just complaining about things he's heard members complain about. He has no actual plan or any idea on what to do.

This guy would be a HUGE mistake.

Unpaid political announcement for the Stockdale ticket - Former state treasurer Alan Stockdale has revealed his plan to save Melbourne

I know one of the members of his ticket, Adam Jacoby - a bright young man - and I used to sit with his father at the footy when Melbourne was a successful club. A long, long time ago.

Small world.

It's not a plan; it's just a slogan.

I'm not either for or against Stockdale or Bartlett. I need to see more substantive information from both of them before forming a view. If "Melbourne Matters" is the sum total of all the Stockdale ticket reveals, then they wouldn't get my support.

"MELBOURNE MATTERS
- Give members and supporters a say now
- Unite the club
- Involve members and promote membership
- Work with CEO Peter Jackson and the AFL
- Make Melbourne financially strong
- Build the Melbourne brand: ``Melbourne Matters''

I have no affiliation with either camp and I really don't go for the political side of football but there is one very important word missing from this "plan". (starts with 'f' and ends in 'l')

This absolutely fails to win me over and misses the mark entirely.

I am past caring about all that Bb, past caring about our emblem and how many stars are on it, how red the red is on the jumper, whether our new draft pick comes across well in interviews.

I am not even sure if I want the rank and file to have any input in the important decisions our football club makes. We need a leader who is hard and strong, who has the ability to make difficult and even unpopular decisions for the football club.

Neeld's mandate to swing the focus on to footy was entirely the right idea, just very poorly executed.

To me this bloke represents more of the same "old" Melbourne, and this is not a good thing.

Stockdale has repeated that he will be President or walk away. He will not accept the Vice Presidency which apparently has been offered.

To me he appears petulant and it is about him, not the club.

I've reached a point where I dont care who gets nominated so long as the slate is wiped clean and we start with youngish fresh faces with a vision and the desire for our club to succeed. So long as they have the MFC off the bottom and gives me some hope of seeing improvement on all levels.

Stynes filled me with hope and belief. Stockdale doesnt. He wont be getting my vote.

Seems strange to me, 1st Kennett puts his hand up, then gets cold water poured on that as an option (as it should, one-eyed hawk, who is he kidding), then Stockdale crawls out from whatever rock he has been hiding under for the last 12 yrs or so, then expects me to buy in on some bulletin points to win me over.

I'm in PJs camp, whoever he goes with, I'll buy in, If he gets it wrong, I'll stand by that too. But we cant afford any more stuffups, we need to get it right, and get it right now. Someone that is 70yrs old, that had his chance once before, and didnt made a good fist of it,isnt in my eyes the right man for the job.

I want someone that will be around for more than just a few years, someone that can work in with Jackson, and also debate some issues with him. And between the 2 (and the board) we get some respect back, and give the sponsors and supporter groups the right people are calling the shots.

Thats what matters.

I want to look back in 5 or so years, and chuckle about the AFL unleased a sleeping gaint. I remember the 60s, its all a distant memory now.

The MCG was filled with a sea red and blue, (Jimmys dream) I knew if we didnt win, we wouldnt be pushed around in the process.

I'm sick to death of priority picks, hearing we are broke, we are slur on the league, and our players are wimps. Then add all the infighting amongst the board etc. I am hanging in there by a glimmer of hope and a few good memories. Its time they gave me more than that, I want to look forward to the next game at the G, knowing we are going to win, and take no prisioners. I want a ruthless club and team.

So Allan thanks for the offer, but no thanks. My vote would be for someone new and has fresh ideas.

that is one hell of a speech! Can you deliver it at the next AGM on behalf of the members.

Well done mate. You have nailed it.

He should not have been offered the Vice Presidency at all, he needs to be kept out of the board room full stop.

So let me go through this:

MELBOURNE MATTERS
- Give members and supporters a say now
- Unite the club (
- Involve members and promote membership
- Work with CEO Peter Jackson and the AFL
- Make Melbourne financially strong
- Build the Melbourne brand: ``Melbourne Matters''

So this is a 6 point plan from a former treasurer? This is a joke.

i just wonder if Schwab is Stockdale's silent partner?

I'll say it again. Bugger off, Stockdale. You've brought nothing more than an ego, just as Jeff did.

It's a sad indictment on our club when we can't attract a host of inspiring aspirants for our vacant role of Club Chairman/President.

It would seem that we could end up with an ex politician who some say is past his use by date, or a younger, though less known man whose capabilities are also unknown to most of us. More of the old, insipid same versus who knows what.

Compare this will Essendon, whose presidency was filled almost as soon as it became vacant. And with a well known and successful businessman who has impressed many with his strong and threatening statements that he will take all steps necessary to ensure a good outcome for his club in the drugs saga.

The thing that irks me with this is that their is no point about winning or making a good footy side. This sounds like 6 years ago all over again.

Jacko specifically said that we have focussed on that sort of stuff for way too long and ignored the actual football team. It's time to change that, no Stockdale.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
