Buddy Franklin to GWS

On the afl website - GREATER Western Sydney has not ruled out using the No.1 pick in this year's NAB AFL Draft to snare superstar Hawthorn free agent Lance Franklin.

And who will Hawks take with no 1 - Tom Boyd.

Free up the salery cap and the next big thing. It just sux. I hate em.

What happens if we get pick one as a result of the PP potentially?

But i agree, can't see anyone saying no to 10 mil or whatever they are supposed to be offering him

Surely he would take the cash. Hawks would be nearly be pushing him out, how can they lose if they get no 1 pick.

GWS dont need another young foward. They need experience, a star and a marketing tool.

I know SOS is pretty dumb, but why would he trade the no 1. pick for Buddy when he can get him for nothing via Free Agency?

The Hawks should get compensation in the same way that other clubs have, and ~pick 20 is what that means. We got basically SFA for Rivers and Moloney.

Our perfomances show we wont get a PP.

Remind me again how many games have we won in the last 7 years.

Will a trade rule out buddy taking another offer of similar size from another club?

What if the Gold Coast make a bid for him ? Even if it was slightly less.

Living on the Gold Coast, playing in a side further developed.

Id choose the Gold Coast over GWS.

I'm not sure?

the hawks would like Boyd no doubt,,, but I wonder if they need Mids more. they're topline mids are all nearly over the Hill...

it'll be interesting. thats for sure...

I want the GWS's mid 1st Rnd Compensatory Pick??? but for who? Who have We available, they would want from Us? maybe 2 players? Jamar +? I can't find anyone we can afford, that would help win us the mid 1st Rnd Compo' pick.

Exactly, if Buddy goes its large because off the AFL's money, that seems to be the major difference between the two offers. Regardless of free agency status , pick 1 should be heading to the hawks.

Agreed. I don't understand why they'd trade Pick 1 for him either? Why not get him for free via Free Agency and use pick 1 to trade further?

Exactly what they will do. It is Buddy trying to make the Hawks fans not hate him.

GWS will not fall for it. They will say $12 million, take it or leave it, but no strings attached.

I was under the impression that the hawks would have to match GWSs RFA offer to Buddy (assuming there will be an offer) and then trade him once he was recontracted to them. Is that right? Doesn't that kinda manipulate the purpose of the FA system and dilute its integrity? It's not far off draft tampering, I'd have thought. Or will Buddy re-sign for the hawks before the draft period, then be traded to GWS. I smell a rat.

GWS have already got a list manager who is only there because of his deeds as a footballer even if they were overated

Not the sharpest tool in the shed is SOS

Have GWS ever considered that Boyd will be better than what they have and Buddy ?

With Sheedy involved i think they are just testing the waters and see what bites

One wonders who Melbourne could offer for Pick 1

Frawley ? maybe McDonald

I think there is a rule about clearing a newly contracted player.

The Hawks will not match a $12 million offer. They can't and everyone knows it.

I still don't understand why GWS would part with pick 1 for him when they can get him for free as a free agent. What is in it for them?

The last chance for them to win a Coleman (before Hogan hits his straps)!

My mail is that GWS despatched their # 1 recruiter to secure Buddy and that he's been giving him some heavy treatment.

Bet GWS store their recruiting data on a pie chart.

I'd imagine any pick involved in the transfer would be a cushion to lighten the blow of anti-expansion club sentiment that will surely follow ;)

Franklin AND 1st-round pick?

Only an expansion club could afford to do that. And the Hawks should be able to get a pick. GWS has a distinctive advantage in its first few years because it has the flexibility to pay so much, something an equally poor-performing, established club like Melbourne couldn't fit within the cap. If GWS had been around for 10 years, it wouldn't have this money to throw at Franklin.

I think it would be only Hawks fans against him leaving for pick 20, I'd have a laugh, hell, they tanked to get him in the first place.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
