The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

I think these sorts of comments really miss the point about where we are actually at. It is fact our club has been appallingly badly managed where we have wasted raw talent through our own stupidity and incompetence. It stands to reason then if we have a regime and coaches who know what they are doing, and are highly competent. The improvement could be anything - 30%?, 50% ? 100%. Personally I think it will closer to100% than 50%.

The upside is enormous JUST BY THE IMPROVEMENT IN OUR CURRENT PLAYING GROUP.

We should look at our midfield in that light, not in the light of their competence of 2013 - it will be like chalk and cheese.

No point missed, just stating facts.

If you want a discussion on the midfield's "potential upside" then start a thread and I may contribute.

we're not getting a priority pick. I can confirm that from Chris Langford who sits on the Commission. End of.

Pick 2 it is

No. We just got Paul Roos as senior coach. That in itself is worth a priority pick. Major reason the afl cited we don't need one is the port adelaide example.

Well Chris should keep his own council until the decision comes down if that's true.

...and the Port logic is what comes out of KB's mouth, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Very dubious about this being correct.

Does this mean ANY team from now on can't get a pick because one team turned it around in a year? No logic in that.

There's no way they would use that as a "major reason".

Spot on 'stuie'. No logic at all.

If true it looks like the PP is decided on the crystal ball at AFL HQ. If it shows a good season ahead then no PP.

watch this space....................

I think he won't stay at the Tiges, & I think its interesting this breaks just after Conca signs on for 3 is it? Tigers won't have the money he wants I'm sure... hmmn, then GWS says no thanks...

"corralled"

now, where is that giant Budweiser gone?

He has a meeting with Brisbane and the papers say Essendon are now looking to get him. You're probably right dee-luded, Richmond don't want him either, someone has to take him.

I think its all swings & roundabouts, imo the writings arte on the wall. :)

I think the AFL don't want anarchy breaking out anytime soon, & they're feverishly plugging dykes all over the country.

I think a very sensible outcome will behold all.

You talk about the longevity of our forward line, then propose trading our top pick for 2 guys who have 2 years left in them at best?

I don't like short term fixes recruit young guns & develop now that we have a coach who knows how 2 build a team.

Jamie Bennell has been upgraded to West Coasts senior list.

So after many long years of substance abuse, the drugs have finally taken their toll on the brains of the Eagles football department. Well done guys.

Apparently Cross met with Roos today anyone know how that went today??

I've heard that Cross is very keen on joining Carlton - has good relationship with Mick Malthouse & sees more chance of playing finals next year - just a matter of if Blues are prepared to make offer.

I dont understand he complained the other night that he wanted more run through the middle yet wants to go after Cross... I just hope he sits down with Roos and sells to him about joining the dees.

His professionlism and training standard would be a massive boost for the club.

IMO if Cross plays in the navy blue Robinson or McLean misses.

What will happen if we can't get any midfielder from another club?

We will be in the same spot of bother we are now.

Will be really disappointed if this happens.

Well according to some, like Damian Barrett, that would be just great.

Judging by the growing string of Clubs publicly declaring themselves not interested in Martin and the stand-off between his knucklehead manager and RFC, maybe we should rethink conjuring up a deal. If we thought of a fair package for him, maybe we can convince him to nominate for the pre-season draft, where we will be in pole-position to snap him up (especially in the light of GWS's official statement that they are not interested). Injecting him into our midfield without needing to trade or use a first-round draft pick has immense appeal. I am sure that Roos could devise a management plan to overcome any possible cultural differences between him and the rest of the list.

To be perfectly honest i'd still just rather not have a dick head at our club haha, if he is willing to leave a club that's clearly on the rise bigtime to chase money from teams that are miles behind them it makes you ask questions of that persons mindset.

Fair point however how much is him and how much is his knuckehead manager. He appears the sort of guy who is easily-led and incapable of making his own lifestyle decisions (as evidenced by choosing to tatoo his neck)>

The manager is probably not helping but i haven't heard many good things about Dusty, even the Richmond members i know are happy for him to just walk so for me it's not that surprising noone wants him, he needs to sort out his management quick smart.

if Roosy feels he can sort him out he is a very talented player, infact i'd go as far as saying he is as talented as anyone on our list.

It amazes me that so many are willing to judge the guy without knowing all the facts. It's so easy hiding behind the names you create for this site. Remember, the AFL / VFL is littered with players that have made bad choices in life. Cousins, Gardner, Fisher, Swan, Hall even the great Gary Ablett. Years ago it was Banks and Millane. Martin has made bad decisions for reasons none of us know, but he is an outstanding footballer with a lot more to give. What has happened to him recently maybe just the wake up call he needs.

Maybe so, but we are trying to build a culture so we can't afford to roll the dice yet while there are safer options going, wait til we're a strong team again, then we can look at risks like this.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
