Would we swap pick 2 for 2 mid first round picks eg collingwoods first and the pick they get as compo for Thomas?? I would prolly do that trade. Freeman couch and dunstan/hartung at 20 midfield fixed

Frankly, I'm happy to downgrade picks if it means we resist the temptation of Aish; I can't deal with another 70kg 'project' mid. Would rather pick a few players later and get a solid, established player (maybe Shaw, maybe not) as well.

And finally, lets not forget the value that pick 10 still has. As a complete hypothetical, say you're trading pick 2 (Aish) for someone like Shaw and pick 10 for maybe Vince and Mackay.

Three spots in your best 22 for an 18 year old kid who could be yet another flop... Worth thinking about.

I for one aren't as concerned about his size or lack of it. I'm sure that the club will be looking into his shoulder issues if he has any and will have a better weights program than the previous few years. I am sure the club have learnt from previous mistakes in Gysberts and Morton. In saying that I don't believe we will still be in possession of pick 2 come draft time.

Let's be clear about a few things.

First of all, this whole Shaw and 10 for pick 2 thing is absolute nonsense. It's nothing but a speculative piece of garbage written by Jay Clark, who knows nothing about football. There is no way in hell that any side, from Melbourne to Hawthorn, thinks Heath Shaw is worth that much. Not one.

Secondly, this talk of trading Clark to Fremantle is insanity. Clark showed at his peak last year that he can be a totally dominant FF. We can't just put the burden on Hogan to be a star from Round 1, and we need to make sure we have the leadership and direction in the forward line to help Hogan develop. Clark is integral to our push up the ladder. He goes nowhere.

Just heard on sen melbourne haven't ruled out dustin Martin and there are 3-4 players melbourne think are worthy of pick 2

I think we can forget about Dustin Martin I believe his resigning will be announced at the Richmond Best and Fairest this evening

I thought the key to Roos recycling players was he was getting them on the cheap.

actually I think it runs deeper than that.

he seems to get players who have talent but struggled with their former clubs, & have been devalued & dispirited by their formers.

he takes them & seems to rebuild them into loyal soldiers who aren't aHead in their personal estimations of themselves. this I think is Key.

this imo is where a culture is built upon 'team', rather than I.

Old man and Carr were having dinner with dodoro and Goodwin from essendon last night, hardly a good sign for BnF tonight..

Martin to Essendon? The mind boggles at the unlimited potential for drug related jokes

Not directly related to Melbourne, but my mail is that three Essendon players asked to be traded because of their loss of faith in the club with everything that happened this year. Zakarakis, Myers and Kommer. Apparently they managed to talk the former around (although i'd love for us to get into his ear). Crameri wanting out is due to money / oppurtunity, not the drugs scandal.

At the right price, i'd be interested in getting Myers to our club.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
