Think about the effect this "50/50" news would've had on the playing group.

Think how pumped up they'd be by it (no disrespect to Craig, but seriously - it's Paul ROOS).

Jack Watts would've yelled out like Will Ferrell "MUM! Forget the meatloaf! Cancel the moving vans! Stop packing my action figures!"

Col Sylvia would've dropped his mojito.

Even the draftees.

Young Aish, Boyd, Scharenberg and the rest will all be wearing "I support dees for a priority pick" badges at the draft combine.

Im putting a hundred on Roos

Has Roos vacated the Sydney Academy position already or does that happen at the end of the home and away season?

If so it will be another bland, uninspiring choice by the MFC.

The stated reason was moving the family away from Sydney.

The story I heard on the radio at 2.00pm said he was not able for family reason to move from Sydney.

That is all I know.

However if we think he is coming to coach the Dees we are kidding ourselves.

It is someone else IMO

And yet people in this thread will continue to think he may be coaching us next season

Hard to move your family north if you are moving them south...

Lol :)

mmmmmmm morning angels

any news yet

Posters need to calm down. You all know what 50/50 means right?

50/50 means better than Zero as it appeared to be 3 weeks ago.. ! It is better than an absolutely definite .. NO ! .. While we dont need to get over excited , it means there is now a 50/50 flicker of hope .. Agree ??

Consistent with GNF's comments above, a few weeks ago I was speaking to a Dees fans who has the inside scoop and a North fan who knows Demitriou (and who had lunch with him one week prior to our chat).

They said to me that Roos is almost a certainty to coach us next year. They said the AFL is going to make it happen, and when they set their sights on something, they make it happen.

I didn't believe them at the time. In some respects, I still don't.

But his 50/50 comments last night are starting to change my view.

It's a game changer if we land Roos. If we do, I'll go back to hating GWS.

I would think in this case that 50/50 means 100% (perhaps it should be 50+50?)...the fact that he has for the first time stated we are a (good) chance to get him, would pretty much indicate it's a done deal with just the odd detail to be sorted out.

Missed the game last night but as soon as I saw the quote in the paper I thought it's on.

Looks very likely now and Eade backing off suggests he may have been signalled.

These developments are entirely consistent with what I have been saying for 3+ Months.

Melbourne has been in discussions with Roos since R2.

Melbourne in confident Roos will coach from 2014.

No decision will be made until admin, board etc are in place.

No decision will be made until after AFL assistance is confirmed.

The AFL wants Roos to coach Melbourne

None of this should be a surprise! Roos is very short odds to coach us. I say $1.20 would be a fair market.

Thanks for the update GNF. Any news on Geoff Walsh?

I can't possibly imagine Roos won't coach us now. He's a smart guy and knows full well the implication of his comments.

No doubt there are things to tick off, but I suspect it's virtually a done deal.

We can't underestimate the significance of a Roos signing. It will be one of the biggest appointments in this club's 155 year history.

Yep, this is obviously more than 50-50, he wouldn't be making public comment otherwise. I think it is more a 90-95% chance if happening now.

This will be huge for the MFC.

I've seen Messiah's come to this club before.

The best part for me is it confirms the AFL's determination to fix us.

At least this messiah isn't a skinny 18 year old kid

If we land Roos, I hereby undertake to drain an entire bottle of Scotch in three minutes. Right down to my belly.

I will then probably die, which would be a bit disappointing (for me at least), because I've been waiting for a very long time for the MFC dynasty to commence.

But I think, on balance, it,ll be worth it.

Indeed. While it will be a wonderful appointment, it only gets us to Camp 1 on Everest. Most of the climb to the summit, and the hardest bit, is still to come.

But at least we will have disposed of the team that couldn't even negotiate the icefall at the bottom.

just the little errors that our players continually make, ive heard roos speak about this otc

removing those errors without any giant claims of previous coaches will improve us 30%

so we will be at base camp 2 within 6months

Yes, as another poster said - he is on the verge of signing or he is a complete [censored].

No-one is ever 50-50 on anything.

If his family is ok with moving to Melbourne - and we can assume they are considering he rebuffed the Lions for that reason, then all we need to show is an ability to get a decent FD head and his choice of assistants.

I had heard we were looking at assistants and that made little sense to me if you don't have a coach but perhaps we are greasing the wheels in the event Roos agrees to take over.

With that in mind - our timeline suddenly becomes aligned with his decision. If he makes it on Monday, or if he makes it on Grand Final day.

I don't believe this is already done; Roos doesn't seem like the person to put up with this type of game, and you can't keep a secret like this anymore. Especially with so many moving parts and the AFL's involvement and the fact they like leaking this type of stuff.

I know that Sheahan thought he was undecided as of a month ago but had looked at our list and, apparently, remarked after a taping of OTC that 'the Dees list isn't that bad' without prompt, so he thought the Dees were a chance...

Our beloved Greg Denham thinks it's all wrapped up:

"Melbourne, which plays its final game for the season tomorrow against the Western Bulldogs, is working towards announcing Roos at Thursday night's best-and-fairest award function ...

... The Australian understands Roos has a package of former and present Sydney associates ready to head to the Demons, including highly respected assistant coach George Stone, who will head up a new Melbourne development program, which is a priority for the club.

As well, premiership defender Tadhg Kennelly is expected to join Roos as an assistant coach.

Roos' current contract with Fox Footy expires at the end of the current season."

Sorry to be a pebble in the Demonland shoe, but I have seen too many false dawns and rays of hope. I can't let myself believe this until I see Roos in a MFC tee shirt at a press conference with PJ. If this comes to pass, I will be the first to run down my street in the buff with a Dees scarf around my neck yelling "Rooooos". At the moment it is the classic carrot on a stick and after the last 5 years I just can't do the "this might be great" celebrations.

Denhams article in the Aus today is interesting.. Still hard to believe.. Won't really believe till I see it.

I am desperately looking forward to the day Roos signs and the first open training, i just wanna be there when Roos says to Jack Watts and a few other boys.. " this is how hard you need to work at AFL level, anything else is unacceptable""

Make no mistake Roos will improve this list 20% just on the increased workrate alone, might see alot of players in a totally different light next year

i am tipping a massive breakout year from Jack Trengove, Roos clearly believes in him, he seems to be finding confidence and a full pre season and the belief of a good coach might really help him.

Though it is a welcome development I suggest we all do not get carried away with it quite yet

Never ever count your chickens before they hatch !

Its after they Hatch and Grow that you can then enjoy a good old fashioned roast :)

And as a long suffering Melbourne Supporter I want one with all the Trimmings as well as few good bottles of wine to wash it down with .

A nice desert also wouldn't go astray :)

How about this for a pebble: getting Roos guarantees nothing.

We still don't have a midfield and established leaders.

I'm still excited!..... I hope he gives the boys 3 weeks off the. Pulls them together for basic training (kicking & hand balling) it will be like remember the titans if you miss a target you run a mile! We'll have the fittest team come next year, cos most can't hit the side of a bloody barn!!!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
