Seems to be a bit of Krudd about Roosy. loves the spotlight and wants to be courted.Something about Roos i don't think suits us. Think he had immediate plquer respectas he had played with a lot of the senior players.Will not get that at Melbourne. Happy with either Eade or Williams. Would prefer Williams but an Eade/Ling ticket appeals as well. Either way we will not know until late September.

My feelings too. Something a little precious about Paul Roos, but he does have a very good record. So does Rodney Eade however, and if you think about what he did with what he started with (at the dogs AND the swans), he's clearly a master at DEVELOPING the successful unit from scratch, which obviously fits the bill for us. He's always struck me too as having an enormous hunger for footy and coaching, without needing acknowledgement.

My favourite by some margin.

Have heard also from an insider that John Worsfold is in the top 3 wish list, but is entirely reliant on him not staying at WCE, and then making the leap east, away from his domestic troubles. Thus it hasn't hit the rumour mill very hard yet.

EXCLUSIVE: THE Brisbane Lions board has been split by a powerful faction, led by Leigh Matthews, who aim to topple under-siege chairman Angus Johnson.

Directors Paul Williams, Mick Power and Matthews are running a ticket to take control of the embattled club and have vowed to make a fresh approach to Swans 2005 premiership coach Paul Roos.

Williams and Power this morning called on Johnson and fellow directors Linda Nash and Cameron Milner to stand down.

The trio refused and the issue looks headed for an emergency general meeting.

Johnson lost the confidence of his Power, Williams and a host of influential Lions supporters over the botched nature of former coach Michael Voss's sacking.

A group of influential former sponsors and directors orchestrated the coup that could result in Matthews drafted into a football director's role.

Respected doctor Alan Smith and former Fitzroy best and fairest winner and McDonalds franchisee Ross Thornton are also part of the ticket.

Williams said he was hopeful the leadership spill could be solved amicably for the good of the club but stressed his faction were up for the fight.

"We would hope there is sufficient momentum from our actions for the remaining board to reconsider their position," he said.

"We hope for the good of the club they might decide there is no point going to a meeting, but we are prepared.

"Leigh has taken a long, long time to get to this point, he feels now is the time to make a contribution.

"He has made it clear to us that he wants to be part of our ticket."

The takeover bid began at today's meeting to discuss the formation of a coaching selection panel, to be headed by three-time Hawthorn premiership star and former coach Peter Schwab.

The new board will make recruiting Roos the primary objective.

"He is absolutely still a priority for us, an urgent priority," Williams said.

"From Tuesday on there was a situation where we felt we had to maximise our chances of getting his attention."

Lions CEO Malcolm Holmes's position could also be in jeopardy.

Interesting that the two clubs chasing Roos have had administrations that over the last few years could not beat time with a stick.

Maybe the main reason Roos is not interested in coaching at present is the because the clubs chasing him are hopeless.

At least with the Lions they have a reasonable list.

Choco was legendary for his interviews with draft hopefuls, I wouldn't hang him on that. Still not sure if he can coach though, Scott might have been right.

I could take this sardonic aside with more humour if it weren't for the fact that the last coach the club hired put many players offside and worried supporters to the point where threads were started based on the fear that players were wavering in their comittment to stay at the club.

Now we have a player that is wavering in his comittment to stay and he is the target of much mirth and dismissive ridicule and rage.

The whole situation is very confusing, why would we be speaking to Assistant coaches if the Senior Coach hasn't been chosen?

Surely we're not going to go with an untried coach when there are very good quality experienced coaches already in the running?

also Has Neil Craig actually stated at any point that he wants the job?

A good Board is a great deal easier to find than a decent young midfield.

I suspect that Roos has just backed out on them? or his decision is a very closely held secret,,, as Matthews doesn't even know. he thought Roos was coming to us some months back.
