Roos simply cannot say anything other than "I don't know if I'm interested in coaching Melbourne next year."

What if he said "coaching the MFC is something that really appeals to me." The place would go into overdrive, the media berserk, he'd have cameras so far up his nose and journos annoying the absolute sht out of him at every move.

Things need to change for him to become interested. Whatever they are, Jackson is working on.

People on here are demanding the best possible candidate going around but are all too quick to dismiss Roos because he has a few conditions and won't fully commit?.

Eade and Williams are top line coaches but lets exhaust all avenues available to get Roos before we go there.

What we are demanding will have nothing to do with Roos decision. I hope that we get him, but watching him last night I got the impression that the OTC joke is wearing thin and that he is genuinely not interested in the position next year... and if he doesn't take it next year, he is out of reach for at least the next 3 years. Last night he mentioned nothing about conditions other than the fact that money is not going to be the deciding factor.

I doubt he'll be our coach next year and think we should move on; the longer this hangs around the more damage it will do to us if he finally says no which I think he will. No one wants to play for us no one wants to coach us, what a debacle.

Love him to be the coach but if he won't say he is giving it consideration then it has to be a no.

Yes I know all the other part about the Board etc. but I just can't se him accepting and at the end of it he merely has to point to his previous comments. He has never said he will and all we are doing is working ourselves in to a lather.

Craig, Eade, Williams are the most obvious options and Craig is there and will call a spade a spade without insulting or putting the players offside.

Neil Craig is not the m an for the job, that's like Swan talking over from Gillard, he watched over Neelds shoulder for the last 18 months and failed miserably, if they hire him that means they never even tried, I think PJ is smarter than that, Eade or Williams are the choices and I must say there pretty good candidates. Well looks like the AFL Package is about to be announced and from reading this Craig seems to be on the outer and if Roos won't take the job it's Eade or Williams.

The bail-out package will be used to partly fund the payouts of sacked senior coach Mark Neeld, worth nearly $600,000, former chief executive Cameron Schwab and former football manager Chris Connolly.

Interim coach Neil Craig could also fall into this category should he be overlooked for the top job and not be required elsewhere at the club. He has a year to run on his contract.

The money could also be used to help lure a high-profile senior coach, such as Paul Roos, and an experienced football department boss.

What a joke that we have to get the AFL to fund the payout of Neeld, Schwab and Connolly, I guess they are all gone because the AFL wanted them gone.

How did the club get in this mess.

A few easy steps. Note that this is guesswork and a lot of filling in the blanks with "wot I rekon..."

1. AFL agitate for change and encourage Jimmy to form a board and run.

2. Jim convinced by AFL and G Lyon that club is in strife and thinks he can save it; gathers board;

3. AFL and Jim persuade incumbent board to leave; they do; smooth handover;

4. AFL encourage Jim to appoint CS;

5. Board fail to understand difference between watching/judging versus doing - so jim is getting involved in decisions at the club as well as evaluating how the decisions get made;

6. Jim gets too sick to then do his job and no-one replaces him...the board fiddle while the FD begins to burn;

7. 186 + gary lyon + sick Jim = bad decision making that gets entrenched in context of dying Jim and jock-sniffing board;

8. Neeld appointed by shocking process that lacks any integrity; board rubber stamp GL's decision;

9. Ongoing failure of board to evualute schwab, or monitor FD progress etc.

10. Players ruined by MN; Board watching helplessly;

Or in simple terms, we replaced a board of good decision makers with bad decision makers lead by a charismatic, physically compromised leader. The AFL helped agitate for much of this behind closed doors. This is as much their mess as it is ours.

I agree McQueen, where there's smoke there's fire. This story has been going round for almost 5 months now. If he's not interested in the job why does the speculation continue? My take is that he is interested but only if the conditions suit him & that includes the AFL assistance package as well as the board & FD. Until all these issues are sorted I think the speculation will continue. He may not coach us but there has definitely been some level of negotiations held.

I want a competent, experienced, previously successful coach that can buy into the club and wants to coach. Roos gives me the impression he is not that interested in the job. I heard his comments this morning on radio and just don't think he's interested enough to take on the job. I don't want someone there just for the money.

As we are forming a panel for the selection of the coach and Roos says he's told Jackson he is not interested (and will advise Jackson if that changes) I think we are in the process of moving on. Roos appears to be number one choice but if he doesn't want it, we must move on. I still think Eade and Williams are the favourites if Roos doesn't want it, and I would favour Eade. I saw a lot of the Swans games under Eade and they rarely put in a collective bad performance/effort. I would hope he would have a similar affect on the club that John Northey did when he was coaching.

If you did, you would have heard his responses to Shehan and Healey's direct questions where they put it to him whether he would be coaching the MFC next year, and in light of the fact that the bookmakers will be heeding his answer - he clearly stated that he has no interest in coaching the MFC next year (no "at the moment" was used at that time - I assume you got that from pitmaster's post). What he cited as having been said to PJ three weeks ago, WAS his position at that time and what he said last night IS his position in the here and now.

I agree, I'd like to flush out those that are interested, as opposed to those that aren't, so we can have something tangible to discuss; I'd like to be in a position to talk about the merits of the candidates that want to coach us.

I'm sick of the rumours and innuendo and all the lip readers and amateur psychologists that can tell if someone is lying by the fact he scratched his nose; let's get some meat on the bone and talk facts.

No one wants to play for us - Mitch, Dawes , Watts, Col (not fussed about) first two came largely for money, who cares , now they're here they want to make a difference.

No one wants to coach us - I think there would be a couple of people - Choco, maybe a Scotty Burns. But everyone has kept their mouth shut because lately it's all about PAUL BLOODY ROOS. Without Lyon and Longmire(the brains behind the rujuvination of the current swans) you have an A grade motivator and how good of a tactical coach, we may never know.

Choco would install a culture into our players giving them a hard edge, has and continues to work with young players (GWS, young Vlaustin at Richmond, good tactically, dismembered the all conquering Lions and has won a flag. Same no as Roos. As I said in an earlier post Richmond will make the finals but won't do any damage. Next year is Hardwicks last year, if they continue to beat the rabble below them but continually fail against real opposition that translates into no progress. Knowing Richmond that might be enough to warrant an extension but if not Choco slots straight in at Punt Rd.

We can't let that happen.

Yes, that is my understanding. Roos has put conditions on a move to Melbourne and Peter Jackson & the AFL are trying to fill those conditions.

If one was a devotee of "who dunnits' and "spy thrillers' etc youd know theres nearly always an intermediary where meetings and collusions are needed to be kept clandestine.

This way he ( PR ) can quite legitimately say Ive only spoken to the CLUB and PJ that once.

If that really is the case, then I would assume that the "conditions" relate to who Roos would want on his coaching team and may be dependent upon our ability to pay out any existing contracts and our ability to pay the incoming replacements - this would obviously be decided by the value of the AFL's assistance package.
