The other point about Blease is that even though I have bagged his kicking he is a proactive, attacking player in contrast to our players last week who were reactive at best, witch hats at worst against the Suns. Maybe we should be playing a Kid who at least takes the game on and live with his errors?

Blease is the my biggest disapointment of the year. I was really thought he would come on in leaps and bounds this year.

He has stagnated.

I mean geez its the worst melbourne team for a long time and he cant get a game.

I don't fully agree Deano74..

what I see in Blease, is increased workrate & intensity at competing to win his own ball, (playing his position rather than just being a receiver runner).

I see him learning to be a complete footballer, as the congestion in footy has quadrupled since we recruited him from the U-18's, where he had space to burn, & use his pace in straight line running...

IMO he has to learn to be more creative in his footy brain, & use his pace sparingly, & learn to weave thru traffic, putting on the afterburners in little bursts to get away from his opponents.

his old style doesn't suit the modern AFL game, & it shows he's been a bit one dimensional in his development of his footy & thinking in the past.

Hope his injury doesn't set him back again. Report says he is in a moon boot :(

Could be precautionary only. Dawes was in a boot after the Collingwood game too.

Fingers crossed for him and Bail too who looks to have a nasty knee injury.

I thought his disposal was deplorable early on, but hopefully that goal on the run can give him a bit of belief and confidence in himself. That's what we need from him though. Don't go looking into the middle with dinky little passes. Either tuck the ball under your arm and run at the opposition or play the percentages. He can still make it, but needs to understand his limitations and the specific role required of him. He should provide a bit of speed from the stoppages and if he can kick a goal or two a game, run and carry the ball, he's worth a game.

Though he might have over celebrated the goal. Liked his dash though

Only scored 29 dream team points last night....killed me!

I want him to make it but apart from that goal he may as well not have played last night. He runs 30% pace when he has the ball. He needs to use this pace to defend and he needs to use this pace to create offensive opportunities for us; he didn't even run hard to make position to win easy soft outside ball last night.

I've read on demonland today that watts is the icing on the cake and then that Sylvia is the icing on the cake. My take is Blease is the icing on the cake; in a good team he will find himself on the end of some good opportunities where his assets - his pace - will allow him to impost the game, but he doesn't work hard enough to be an integral part of the team for me.

Thoroughly 'meh' up to this point in his career.

Needs really strong guidance from the next coaching team.

Unfortunately for Sam I think he will only ever be a 'bit' player with that dashing handball receive, a la Davey. He needs more tricks or will end up on the scrapheap.

I reckon he needs to be groomed as the much-needed crumber that will stand at the feet of the Dawes-Hogan-Watts-Clark-Howe quintuplet next year.

His break away pace makes him more valuable further afield though.

The trick is getting the ball into his hands.

Anyone know serious the injury is?

No the trick is getting him fit and finding him an engine.

Put the guy in the pocket, and encourage him to occasionally push up the ground whenever the ball is holed up in the opposition's F50. That way he has the space to run when the team needs a quick counter transition, but playing deep will also give him the opportunity to crumb Clark, Howe, Dawes, Hogan, Fitzy (holy crap what a forward line!).

Other than that, he is not good enough to play in the midfield, and is too much of a liability on the wing.

The secret will be getting him back from injury, getting him to produce a couple of stand out games against lesser opponents and then trading his ass for whatever we can get.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
