Cameron Schwab Resigns

Steamin Demon

from DM's letter to supporters (yesterday FFS!!!!!)

"""

He dismissed suggestions that CEO Cameron Schwab and the administration would be under pressure as a result of the performance. He said the future of Schwab – who signed a new contract last season – was not even a consideration.

"We believe that our club administration has done extremely well under extraordinary circumstances," McLardy said.

"What we need now is on-field performance."

""""

I suspect (but have no evidence of course) that this is partly the AFL's doing, hence the about face. If after publishing his letter, Don talked to the AFL and they say - 'we'll help the club in a big way by $ or whatever, but you need to sack the CEO (for real reasons or just to show you are doing something)', then an about face is on the cards, especially if the CEO goes gracefully as he has.

CS may not be perfect, but his departure was a class act which says a lot about those remaining.

As for the President - what a pathetic performance - time to go!

Turning to performance on the field, which is the fundamental issue - MN has to go and he can take NC with him - so far they have escaped the fate they deserve!

That was a classy exit.

A horrible two weeks and the pressure for blood was huge. Schwab took the bullet well. Hope that a single exit at this point is all it will take for on-field improvement. We now need stability for the remainder of the year and then make the tough decisions at the appropriate time which will hopefully set us up for the next decade.

I've never warmed to Don but it is imperative that he and Neeld and Craig and Misson and the board all stay for at least this year but that of course will only be possible if we improve on the field.

Have our odds for Saturday shortened?

Obviously there has been something going on with all the murmurings over the last year or so about Cameron. I think Mclardy was rubbish in the press conference today but I think this could be because he could not say the real reason Cameron was asked to resign. I don't think Don had a back up in his mind and struggled to answer the questions appropriately. Cameron has always been able to work the room and this has been the problem, so yes he was very dignified today, but this has been the problem he can talk the talk and has proven business skills, however he could persuade and manipulate a situation. So who knows what's been going on in the background, why Cameron has been silent since half way through last year, I don't think we will ever know, but it just stinks of deeper issues, as we well know.

Nup. It was Cameron Schwab's doing.

Happy to take the abuse though (Stuie, Satyricon etc) to stand up for what's right.

You take abuse?

You private messaged me, and who knows how many other 'Landers, saying "I win" "Stick that up ya jumper"....

You win??! Wow. You are the weakest supporter I've EVER come across.

Our club is in crisis, our CEO has just "resigned" and you private message people to say "I Win."

Only a fool or a troll would gloat over the situation we are in, and you are clearly both.

If you happen to discover any logic one day, please re-read over my comments where I ALWAYS said the MFC know best and if they chose to get rid of him then I totally support it.

"Supporters" like Range Rover who do nothing but try to bring the club down are a part of why we're seen as irrelevant and weak.

I hope his type get weeded out for the sake of the club I love.

My understanding is that post-186, the board agreed that Schwab should hang back and be a bit more focused on the admin side of things. There was a period there from 2008-2010 when he was very active in the media, YouTube, on the site. Maybe that pushed some buttons?

Why are you all upset about this?

DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!

Now let's get rid of Connolly, and move on and forward!

Surely you mean she has had a huge victory with her personal venom and invective.

Yeah lets go back to unfit players, not trying to reach high standards in training or developing leaders, gee thats why we are in this mess in the first place

I think he instilled a tanking culture in the Club that had players shatting themselves.

He had to go.

Brian Royal should go now.

I agree along with our List Manager, Tim Harrington

Far too conciliatory an exit for the snake!!

Didn't Dean Bailey have the MFC backdrop removed when he fronted the media after his axing? Schwab and Mclardy still holding hands to the last in front of the signage. Facts are Schwab has riven the club horribly and disenfranchised the players. It's a start but we won't be repaired until all vestige of his meddling is removed. That means the inept Mark Neeld and a few of his assistants who have caused so much damage since they got there.

1 down a few more to go. Clean out needed not just the CEO. Clean it out.

And who will be left? Can it be ALL of their fault. How about the lazy players, or those who chose to under perform because they didn't like the CEO (presuming that was / is a factor).

Do you want to scrap the lot of them - staff, coaches, administrators, players, and start with a real clean slate? How about the fans too?

He's been fired to appease us (the supporters). No other reason. They had to pick someone to make it look like they were acting and he was in the firing line.

Despite the fact that it is innately wrong to fire someone for no real reason, I think it has to be done. We can't afford to have supporters giving up hope. Just like Bailey, Schwab has been fired by the supporters. I suspect we'll chop Neeld next.

Also, on a separate matter, who are the scumbags that have been lining up next to the race screaming abuse at our players as they walk off the field the last two weeks? Shameful stuff.

Sack them too!

Thank you for all of the efforts in trying to drag this club up through the muck. Thank you for trying different things from a footy club like Whiteboard Wed (may not have worked but fans loved it at the time), the new emblem, trying to instill the hertiage of the club into new players and people.

It didn't work out but not for want of trying, who knows what happened behind closed doors but at least you were in the trench.

I can't believe the amount of people that are so thrilled to see him go, I don't really know much about Schwab but think that those predicting a sudden change in performance are delusional. I am not really sure what a CEO does but what's their influence on team performance? The only way we would see immediate on-field improvement is if the players have been on strike (deliberately playing badly) which obviously has not been happening for the players would be banned from AFL.

I don't think we will see any improvement unless this somehow changes the structure/power at the club (read somewhere recently that the distribution of power at Melbourne was spread too thin)

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
