Aaron Davey - the future?

jumbo returns

Recommended Posts

You're basing his whole form on one kick? One kick?

I'm not convinced - his footy was horrible last year and it'll take a massive turn around for me start believing that he will add value to this team.

How'd you get to that conclusion?

... and we know injuries ... broken legs ... blease, strauss for eg.

He was still limping at the start of this season FFS, of course his footy wasnt great last year.

Just watched a replay with some mates who missed it ...

(BTW - i missed a handball in the 3rd and 2 kicks at the start of the 4th qtr - so i reckon 14 touches for the game, not 11)

Point is, there was plenty of run, run to space and/or position, 2nd and 3rd efforts, controlled intensity, sublime skills - he got pinned in the third by young Vlastuin and I reckon that was his only boo-boo.

It was the Aaron davey of old - if you dont believe me, watch for yourself when you can:

Let's just hope his body gives him the chance to keep it up.

Listen for him being talked about at the start of the half time break and during the 3 qtr time break.. (and throughout the telecast as well).

... and look for the No.8 - or a big indige-afro type do...

100% correct Dan.

Aaron has found his Mojo.

Still need to see it all unfold in a real match situation.

Let's see if he can break the heavy tag without dropping his head.

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being. Perhaps the poor body language came from the frustration of not being able to do when he was younger and fully fit. Whilst he will never regain the body of the 21 year old Aaron Davey, he's probably fitter now than at any time in the last three years. That has to count for something.

  • 2 weeks later...

Where is he at now?

Is he in the best 22?

Is he capable of playing most games in 2013?

Where would you play him?

Has he lost pace?

Is his disposal still acceptable?

Does he look like he badly wants to be here?

Watched the praccy match, Garland destroyed him and he isnt an a-grade defender

Will struggle if Byrnes, Tappy, Blease etc get some sort of form

Still not 100% fit and struggles on repeat efforts which Neeld wont put up with

Shame we arent a good side that can carry a few blokes

I'll fess up! Davey at nearly 30 years of age IMO is not going to be of much use to our club anymore. Simply does not work hard now and seems disinterested most of the time. I was his biggest fan but he (like Robbo) is way past his use by date. Unless there is a remarkable turnaround, you would think he is still here purely for a bit of experience!!!!!!! His effect on games has long gone, he is not realistically near being a best 22 pick. There are many young players now who would show him real pride in the jumper!

Prove me wrong Flash.........please!

ones a free wheeling game in darwin where anyone can get an easy kick

ones a intraclub praccy match with more structures and more hard work needed

played well in one and struggled in the other

IMHO too many of our experienced players have been flat track bullies - Moloney, Davey, Sylvia, Jamar etc etc etc

Davey has no doubt been the worst of a bad bunch.

Surprised his still on the list. I think would've been worthwhile hanging onto a Petterd, Bennell or god forbid, even a Morton for another season instead.

Only took one scrappy intraclub at Casey for everyone to turn on him after looking to be in good nick at training for the first time in a couple of years...

Last year of his contract, let the guy play for his reputation. How about standing by a Demon favourite for once instead of throwing him under the reality bus.

we need to climb the ladder Stuie as a club. Flash is obviously a top bloke, but if he is no longer up to it on the park that means we are a man down.

I am suprised he made the cut in 2013.

All I've heard and seen at training (aside from the intra) has been extremely positive in regards to Flash, so I find it a bit strange that there's so much negativity all of a sudden.

He's had a lean couple of years, but he's been a great player for us and has done more for our club than most would realize. Let's remember some of the poor exits of the past and give the guy one more chance, he's more than earned it.

Don't forget he also brings much needed experience, you only need to look at who we went after in the trade/draft period to see we have placed a high premium on that quality, and not all of those players are automatic best 22 either.

It's most likely his last year, let the guy play.

I hope like hell Davey can fire up and have a good year, what I think will be his last.

I had been getting my hopes up from seeing him improve at training this year, the reports from Alice got my hopes up more. The intra-club did nothing to keep my hopes high.

He has his work cut out to be first 22, he definitely looks to me like he has lost a yard of speed but still has great skills. If he can stay fit, he has the ability to make our best 22, but his going to have to work his butt off if he is any chance.

Flash can play this year. Long as he earns it. I have seen this club also carry far too many players.

The Club comes first.

I have no doubt he won't get a game unless his form warrants it, just like everybody else. Just think he deserves this year to have a shot, he's earned that much from the club, and people seem to be forgetting that in their new found lynch mob mentality about anyone not performing as they could.

Seems to have breathing issues maybe due to his diminishing fast twitch muscle fibre.

Could be a sub-but we need a very desperate sub .

We know he has got the skills ,we all love the guy for what he has done in the past.

But we all know that means nothing anymore .

Sentiment doesn't count at the selection table .

I would love to see Flash bagging goals and tackling in the pocket again .

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
