WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TOM GILLIES

Not a bad thing, would be ahead of Davis, and maybe even jmac, but still has plenty of years and is out of a good system! Won't cost us much to draft pick 50-odd

Is it confirmed. Don't know too much about him.

Anyone provide any perspective?

Tom Gillies (Geel) 22, 13 Tall defender cruelled by Geelong's back-half riches. Sought keenly by Hawthorn last year, should still find suitors now despite stagnating in 2012.

Good for: Melbourne. If he comes up, proves a straight swap for ex-Demon defender Jared Rivers, now with Geelong.

I think Gillies is heavily involved with the Pies.

From up Bendigo way.

Looks slightly flakey but proven consistent over time

Comes full beefed up .

Any which way it showing a trend whereby Neelds FD is despatching the namby pambiness of the old Melbourne and installing at worst a capable framework of players .

The lighweights and perennial 'potentials' have been moved on... Hurrah !!!!!

If he is a free agent, can't he just be taken if he agrees by tuesday 13th? In other words he doesn't have to be drafted.

yep. Just becomes one less vacancy.

I think Gillies would be a good get for us. He comes from a strong and successful club and just look at the array of talent over there that was keeping him out of a senior game.

Of the list of delisted free agents recently published in the media, he's one of the few I'd be considering.

I agree. He's got a good kick on him and a pretty good decision maker. Not too disimilar to Tyson Goldsack.

Thing is also hes a ready to go player. No need to wait for development allowing better developing of other players .

This is nothing short of wholesale change in action. Very much needed .

I would hope that we would pick up a delisted player today if any appeal to Neeld. Although we are still eligible for both the National draft and Rookie draft, there are no guarantees that we will be entitled to participate in the pre-season draft in December. Let us end up with a full list strategy.

Nothing in the AFL rules - though I stand to be corrected - that lets them take PSD picks off us I believe. We'd only be using one in any case I would imagine.

I see that Gillies is now part of an article on the MFC website. Isn't the deadline today (13/11/2012) for us to pick up delisted players before the draft?

I'm not sure if I should be reassurred or worried that these were his best performances this year:

He played just five AFL games this year but showed glimpses of his ability, especially in his 19-possession, eight mark effort against Melbourne in round eight, and his 18-touch and seven mark game against Greater Western Sydney in round 13.

If he is signed then either MacDonald or Sellar would be in trouble.

We only have 4 vacancies on the list at the moment and if we want to use ND4, ND49, ND53 and PSD3 then someone will have to make way for Gilles or ND70, ND73, and ND74 if they are to be used.

Just a question on this. If he is signed, could we have ND4,ND27,ND49 and PSD3? (ie.no ND53 makes way)

Could see clint Bartram going to the rookie list or this because logically we would probably take him with pick 53

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
