Latest murmurings of a crazy time

What do you base this on Ben? I've not seen him play this year and TBH can't remember much of him in 2011. And I've never seen him live I don't think unless it was against us when I didn't notice him.

He's seems to be out of favour at NM as Gys is with Neeld. No point having players on the list in that situation so I support the trade but I rate Gys and always have. But I like players who get the ball inside and make good decisions and I think you can impact fitness and attitude especially when you are dealing with 20 yo kids. But you can't teach them what Gys can do. That's why I'm disappointed we aren't backing ourselves with him.

Agree.

My thoughts on todays trading.

I will only accept laughter after the deadline.

Jacobs to MFC.

Tippett to Sydney.

Ray to MFC.

Maybe Pederson to MFC.

Gysberts to Port.

Martin to Bris.

It is all logical to me if you read between the lines.

happy if that all eventuates except for gysberts

Right so we get Ray, Pedersen, and Jacobs for Martin?

I can't see any of that eventuating unless we give up something decent. Brisbane aren't going to give up 33 for Martin, North aren't going to accept pick 49 for Pedersen, and we have nothing to give St Kilda for Ray.

Guest José Mourinho

Will only believe it when I see the press conference.

Reckon Gleeson is desperately trying to find relevance in a climate full of trade period oneupmanship.

He's just going to end up looking like the biggest fool.

(Not hard to just claim the deal fell through at the last minute, as we have seen claimed many times before...)

More than anything, I think WC would refuse to deal with the Mortons again after the Mitch fiasco.

Just read in the AGE that Morton goes to the Eagles for pick 88, and Gysberts to North for Pederson. Don't like either deal to be honest but the Morton deal in particular is insane.

didnt we just give pick 88 to the power for Roden?

Our 88 went to WCE, who then gave Stevenson to Port.

So as previous, we could be effectively trading Morton for Rodan. Would be surprising, but stranger things have happened ...

I rate Gysberts skill set but his endurance is appalling and his attitude to hard work appears faulted by those in the know. I have stuck up for Cale many times and to give him a way for a packet of chips seems a waste. However we need to stop looking at these players as what they were drafted and accept they are not in the clubs plans and if that is the case trading them to do what is is the right move. We obviously rate Pederson and if pick 88 allows upgrade of Nicholson for example then it suits our need. Next year they would likely both be delisted and attain us nothing.

We have gone into the trade period to improve our forwardline with some maturity, attain some young elite talent and cull those that dont fit the plan or culture. I dont agree with all the moves but I would say it has been very successful.

wow, to north!

lucky buggers. cook is sensational.

Yes - great pickup by North if true. He was CEO at the Eagles in the early '90s as well as Geelong. He turned those clubs into powerhouses. A brilliant administrator. I wish we had him. At the moment our club seems to be totally run by Mark Neeld.

Paper today saying that we could be trading Gysberts for Pedersen in a straight swap. Or could it work out to be

Gysberts to Port

Jacobs to North

Pedersen to Melbourne?

Still think North should throw in at least Pick 58 along with it though as I think both Gysberts & Jacobs have more upside then Pedersen. This could allow us to bundle Pick 49 with Martin in a trade to Brisbane for Pick 33 and possibly use that Pick to land Ray from St Kilda?

I simply like what I see. Have a look at his tapes. The one fact that you and others will always have is that North don't rate him. I accept that, but I think he can play.

We rate him and they don't. We don't rate Gysberts and they do. It's an opinion business. Let's hope it's a win win. If Petersen "works" we've done well because talls are much harder to find and develop than mids.

Congrats to MFC footy department. They got the things done that they wanted and that's good. Now we'll see if they can do anything with what they've got.

Tippett Likely to enter draft according to AFL chat... with GWS interested.

GWS should push him into the PSD.

If he doesn't - they won't be happy and they will still pick him and he will just have [censored] off his new club.

PSD I would think.

I thought there was a change to teh rules where you need to nominate for the ND before the PSD? to stop this happening?

No don't want that. Main draft is what we want.....it will mean Toumpas becomes an option for us.

Didn't want to start another thread, but do we still have to pick up a minimum of 4 kids through the draft?

Viney

Pick 4

Pick 49

Pick 78

If we managed to get ray for 49 + 78, would we have to trade for some late picks?

believe it is only 3 players. and one of them can be a rookie upgrade

and your second part of the question we have picks DRAFT PICKS: 4, 49, 70, 74, 88, 106, 124 so we have plenty of them if needed.

Hawks pick up Jed Anderson from GWS for Gilham. Why the hell couldn't we have used Martin or Pettard for this trade. We pick up "Dads Army" and they pick up a Jet.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final.
