I would love this to happen, but I really doubt it. If we get Ray for 49 + Bennell thats a great trade for us. I would say we only trade Martin if we are guaranteed Pedersen, if not, Martin gets another shot.

I know its a late pick but i did say I would have a fit if we gave up picks/players for B grade mids who work hard....

Lucky for DL Ray is worse then B grade so no fit going to happen.

If we are not going to use he picks/players than their usefulness is bound to whether they get our intended targets.

Can't imagine St Kilda being that interested in a bloke recovering from an ACL

I guess they'll sound out Misson for an update as to how Bennell's travelling with his recovery. Should be a solid relationship there I'd like to think.

Bennell would be seen as a direct replacement for Cripps I guess who it looks like will walk into the draft.

I would love it if this trade goes through. I rate Ray!

Why? St Kilda don't rate him. Western Bulldogs didn't rate him. What makes you think he can be more than just a good ordinary footballer?

Ross Lyon cleraly rated him. I've rated him since he's been at St Kilda. I never said I think he's a star who will deliver the MFC a flag. But I certainly think he's worth Pick 49 & Bennell and fills what our needs are at this stage.

A good HBF/Midfielder who's capable of playing a run with role to good effect (drawn Grand Final on Dane Swan after half time) who is a reasonable kick who also provides run and carry and spreads well. He'd walk into our 22 without any issues.

I think signing Ray should be more of a priority than Pederson. We could do with another Mid or two who is comfortable at AFL level. However we have a fair few young guys who could play the pederson role after a good preseason (Fitzy is the obvious choice IMO).

Either or for me, i think the File would be handy but maybe less so once Hogan is up and about, but have 3 talls would be a big help from last year.

Ray is also nice, but not for a pick above 50 and imo closer to 60, he wont be around in 2 years as far as i work out with 2 more first round mids, Viney, pick 4, Taggert and maybe a Gys to work their way into our line up

Id be happy if MFC walk away from both deals...... We've had a pretty good trade period, IMO..... Both deals would be a bonus.... But that's it, I wouldn't sell the house for them....

Maybe trade Martin to Brisbane for pick 33....... Then use it in the draft...

I doubt the club shares your view of these trades being bonuses. Their mission has been to improve the list with the right role players and I think that despite the wonderful effort to date, they'll be disappointed if they can't finish the job.

I'm happy to see the club trade in some experience and it's really good to see they've recruited some very good senior players as well but you can go too far and you have to have one eye on the future as well as the present. I would hate to see, say, Rodan getting a game ahead of a talented kid who may deserve a game but will miss out because of the desire to win a couple of games now.

I for one don't want to see the team full of "not great but ok senior players" from other clubs who know they won't be around for a flag and therefore will be playing for the money and maybe a bit of fun in the twilight of their careers.

I don't want to see us lurch from one thing to another, we can't replicate the Swans in one draft period..

This is the problem right here IMO. For too long we have focused on winning in 5 years and not right now. Winning right now is all that matters given our current situation. If we can grab Rodan for nothing and he is the best option on gameday, it's clearly the right decision. Talented kids are just that but must be made to earn their spots. only then will we have the desired elite program we are striving for.

Rob, let's not forget that as it is the club is already up to its eyeballs in youth, and I believe Neeld has said he's happy with the talent pool in our existing young players. Couple this with the fact that we've already netted two absolute top shelf kids in Viney and Hogan, I think if Pick 4 was the only live pick we had in the draft, we've still done more than a bit for the future.

David Rodan won't be at the club in two years time so do we replace him with Roda Mark 2 so we can maintain our 8 to 10 wins a year?

I don't want to win 8 to 10 games a year I want to have a group of players capable of winning a flag.

I don't disagree with that i just don't want to be the dumping ground for any player looking to extend their time in the AFL or be their superannuation provider.

I'm happy with what we've done so far I just don't want to go too far.

If having a David Rodan, Farren Ray or Cam Pedersen on the list keeps the likes of Jesse Hogan, Dom Barry and Josh Tynan for example out of the team for an extra year or so making them have to work harder to get themselves ahead in the pecking order of these other clubs rejects, well then they've served their purpose in my book.

No more gifting young kids games, make them earn it, and the best way to do that is by at least having some solid senior bodies on the list which we don't currently have.

I also can't see Mark Neeld playing anyone who is just there for the money and to have a little fun. Think they'd find themselves at Casey quick smart.

Lets also not forget the leadership and example that I'm sure Neeld will be looking for these older players to set for our young guns on the training track and on the ground also to set the example for the future. It's not just about winning more games next year. It's about setting standards.

Edit: Last paragraph.

I used to think like this.

But now I'm so over winning 1 game every 6 weeks since 2007, I'd quite happily go to the footy knowing we'll win almost every second week.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
