A very good source has informed me that Eddie has been in contact with Vlad to try and set up a "Judd type" deal to Keep Cloke at the Filth.

A supporter is prepared to "sponsor" him as a third party.

This must not be allowed to occur.

The AFL has already said no to us last year.

Keep your eyes and ears open & if anything comes of it Vlad must resign.

I hope the MFC are onto it.

Ohh, E'd, come on Now!

If, you want to keep Cloke? Well then cough up 1 or 2 other players to the Competition.

I tell you what E'd, if your nice we might take one off your hands, just to help your pies flapping .

The Afl has allowed Luke Ball to manipulate the draft to end up at Collingwood, it has also allowed Carlton to rort the salary cap with Judd. Seems to me the big boys get away with whatever they want, but should Melbourne FC want to do a Judd like deal to keep Scully or manipulate the draft to get Viney at a later pick the AFL comes down hard.

The Draft and Salary cap are the only things keeping this comp remotely even, big clubs have boundless money compared to the minnows of the comp to spend on coaches, medicos, sports science, facilities, end of season altitude training trips. By letting the big boys abuse the only two systems in place it makes it impossible for small clubs to compete without begging members for money, the AFL should be ashamed.

'Shame' and 'ethics' are not words that appear in Vlad's dictionaries

Funnily enough that was to stop them losing GA to the other plastic bulltish club GC.

It seems all rules and fairness are out the window when it comes to setting up new clubs. Because they have to do good and all, which I understand, but why at the expense of us who have been here a damn sight longer?!

We need to poach a player or two off GWS to restore order. As it is right now it's GWS 1- Melb 0. and they've been here for all of 23 games as opposed to our 150 years. We should be stealing candy off them.

Can we save our "warchest" (lol) till next year and "make it rain" all over Cameron and Greene? Would be ultimate payback. And would set them back.

I'm still not clear about 'war chest'. Such a strange phrase to use.

But you are right Sloonie - there will be some massive opportunities in the next few years as a bunch of players get to the end of their first/second contract at the expansion teams and decide that they want to go home.

Who would you like to see returning to Melbourne town?

We must fill the war chest every year...

I reckon with MM now at Carlton Eddie's ego just can't allow Cloke to go there - he'll match any Carlton bid at any cost to his club. Hopefully we can benefit from the fall-out.

Richmond stars all OOC next year. Cotchin, Martin, Riewoldt.

I wouldn't mind using our 2013 'warchest' on them.

I think the ultimate irony would be for Eddie to convince the AFL that 3rd party deals to pay Cloke are acceptable...so Cloke goes to Carlton because of the better 3rd party deal Carlton offers based on the principle which Eddie talked the AFL into allowing.

I was told that 2 weeks ago Cloke was gone, but now with his form and Carlton, Eddie has labelled him "keep at all cost." I think they will clear a couple of players and lift the offer to $900k per year for 5 years. Then Cloke can stay and say he took less than elsewhere and all the Pies fans will think the sun shines out of his arse, when it really shines out of Eddie's.

I think Pies fans are more into moonshine than sun shine.

Two wrongs don't make a right...

But three rights do make a left...

More so if Cloke pulls the pies butts out of the fire on Saturday night.

Go Trav, Go Weagles.

Suck it up Eddie.

My understanding of the arrangements is that all payments to players came under the salary cap regardless of the source, except where it is a legitimate payment for undertaking other work.

Hence why Judd's Visy payment is OK because of all the work he does at Visy ....... oh - now I see the problem

Hang on but Mr Scully isn't he doing proper work so why is that in the cap...

I am so confused

The AFL has said Visy-like arrangements are no longer Kosher

Probably wasn't either when done for Judd but as redleg says was probably a special accomodation for Carlscum at the time though AFL probably regrets it now

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
