god you talk sh!t

If we are 0-10 next year there will be immense pressure on the coaching staff and management of this club.

I have seen nothing this year to suggest that we will win more than a handful of games in '13.

It is very likely that Neeld will not get a chance to choach his third year.

join your mate

Neeld has three years. Get used to it. To remove Neeld beofre the 3rd would be like considering aborting a takeoff rolling from V1 to V2. Not a happy endiing !!....that and plain stupid.

The board know its a job that takes a time, the time they have agrred to to allow Neeld to shape a future is 3 years. Thats how long he will have. If after this time we arent heading down the right path Im sure Mark would be the first to pack his bags.

Neeld has coached one of the worst teams in Melbourne history, that's for sure. Whether that's because he can't coach or because the team just isn't that good, or perhaps because of off-field distractions, I don't know, but anything more than 3-5 wins next year is a massive plus for the club. He will get until 2014. The only thing threatening his position will be the relentless media scrutiny he is sure to get next year when the club starts 0-10. Bookmark it.

On Triple M today they were saying Melbourne of 2012 was certainly worse than 2008 and 2009, and probably one of the worst teams of all time, seeing as though 3 of the 4 wins came against new, "non"-sides.

It's amazing how far behind the next worst team this year's team was. It's staggering.

And either the players leaving will be replaced with better, more experienced players, or young, POTENTIALLY better players. If it's the latter, and I think it will be, I seriously think 2013 and 2014 are well on the way to being two more 'spoon years.

Buckle up, people.

Wtf?

Where did this come from??

-Thank you Mr. Pretendagast.. for wasting a valuable round 1 draft pick - you moron, no wonder carlton have turned to sh!t.. you just need to be around..

-and thank you for knocking back Leroy Jetta (just named in the AA squad) for what wouldve been pick 80-something in the national draft, when his mother BEGGED you to talk to him

while over there inquiring about Nev Jetta, but you didnt want to have to re-book a plane flight out of Perth - thats why you didnt meet with him even though he was only an hour away.

The stain youve left on the MFC is indelible..

Now, do me a favour Baz- walk in front of my car when im driving down the street next, yeah?

I think it must be time for bed JT

As I thought that was exactly what I was saying.

But obviously I missed the mark completely.

Yes I agree

Was just saying that i understand as you seemed to imply i thought the culling was done, no we both expect another 5-6 cuts i imagine tbh, taking us into double figures roughly or further

Why is this news not on the MFC website why is it being released by the HUN? You would think the club would have at least had a story about it on their website. I don't understand why they let the media disclose it first, I don't want to hear from some second rate Journo this just staggers me and also infuriates me no end.

Melbourne's DRAFTING is not the issue.

Its development is.

You need something to be there to develop..

..and Pretendagast brought us crap - his job was to bring us the best available.

You cant nurture what doesnt exist..

184 posts here, but still the only report on Cook leaving is the HUN; no club announcement, no other article.

Hmmmm.... rumor only?

Unless they just announced the Aquatics Australia Diving Squad, I think you mean Lewis.

...how I'd love to have him at MFC...

Pity for Cook he wasn't a No.1 pick - that seems to get you a bit more mollycoddling

Maybe under Bailey and Daniher, but not under Neeld.

No kidding, Einstein. Of course there would be [at any club] were that to happen, so just lets get behind those who make the cut and encourage them to succeed.

You would probably have sacked Norm Smith in 1953, which was a shocker, so I am glad you weren't able to post on supporter websites then.

And who may I ask do you think would want to come to Melbourne if Neeld were sacked in his second year? "Oh, yeah, I will toss in a good job to go to MFC, who support their coaches working up a crap list, just so well."

I remember reading a post on Demonland about the first training run for the 2010 draftees and it was said that Cook was in some distress during the session and failed to see it out. Now that I think of it, we were already in deep trouble way back then with our first round draft pick. Needless to say, Prendergast didn't last here much longer and nor did Bailey for that matter. These blokes were in charge during the club's most tragic period of recruiting and we're paying for that in spades now.

Ahhhh this is so depressing. At least MN has come in and started to clean the club out. Rancho relaxo people its always darkest before the dawn

context is a wonderful thing Rhino

The originating comment made mention that Morton was a Bailey era pickup not Danihers This is so. Its irrelevent to this that CAC was there. The poster was differentiating between Coaches

Cheers BB.

That's exactly the point I was making. Bailey was the coach when it was suggested that Morton was drafted in Daniher's time. I don't dispute that Craig Cameron was there....

Anyway Cook has been really disapointing. I've stuck up for hima few times but I posted after Casey's match against Northern Blues that he was really disapointing and I thought he was in trouble from there.

At least it looks like the clean out is starting once and for all. Lets hope Neeld can get the right players in whether that's through Free Agency, Trades or the draft.

Darren Jolly was useless at the Dees and let go too, early in his career...

Certainly wasn't useless. In fact I remember one commentator in 2002 saying they though Jolly was the best no 2 ruckman going around.

He had a form slump in 2004 and if I'm not mistaken requested a trade in which we got a top 15 draft pick.

Absolutely incorrect; he just couldn't get a game because White wanted to ruck 100% of the game and Daniher was happy to let him.

Can someone explain to me why anyone cares if Gysberts gets the boot. He can't crack into the 2012 model Melbourne Team.

Bad recruiting is bad recruiting. Keeping him just rubs salt into the gaping axe wound that is our list

Because he had an injury plagued year and wasnt match fit.

IMO We would be better off offering Cook a one-year deal than delisting him and taking pick 85 in the draft.

However, if Neeld and co. don’t think he will make it, I have no issue with us seeking a trade. Despite not showing much to date he could fetch pick in the 30s. After all, he is a tall and skilled KPF who was AA at U18 level and he was a pick 13.

By the sounds of it, Neeld is prepared to invest more time into Jack Fitzy rather than Cook.

That's fine with me.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
