Today was a clear demonstration of how we are under sized and not equipped to play the game as it is now played.

A real condemnation of Dean Bailey.

To their credit the boys showed some flair and skill early but could not compete all day against those big bodied forwards and midfielders.

We played on heart for the first half and then played like a bottom four side playing a top four side. Oh wait thats what it was.

Get a grip people.

Finally - voices of reason and awareness.

Yeah, today was all Dean Bailey's fault..... FFS

No excuse for the result, but can someone point me to where the rules of the game are written down. I need to go and re-learn them because I didn't understand half the decisions today.

We were rubbish, and they did to us what they should have.

Too many list-cloggers getting games and doing nothing with them. Too many big Adelaide bodies shoving around pathetically weak Melbourne ones.

Sellar, Blease, Howe, Jones, Sylvia were good. No one else.

Edit: Jake Spencer was insipid.

Can anyone explain why Jack Watts looks at least 10 kg lighter than last year - if anything, he should have bulked up even more this year, if we are to have big bodied players.

Posted

We get hammered in the midfield every game because we start one mid short with Jordie in there. The pies start with 3 attacking mids and back themselves and they can because of Swan,Pendles,Beams etc.

Today,we start a VFL at best ruckman,Jordie,Jones and Bail. This is the worst midfield in the AFL,including Suns/Giants.

Any wonder we lost the clearances 1-7 in the first 15 minutes of the game?

I'd suspect the answer is because they don't want him to end up as a 'big bodied player', but that's just a guess, given they have played him as a floating, rebounding half back all year. Not much point being built like Quentin Lynch if you are playing that role.

did someone shrink the crow's jumpers in the wash this week or did i just see the premiere of "Magic Mike"?

Our midfield... OMG our midfield.

SO SO SO bad, it was like watching a training drill.

I'm shocked that we can have a senior coach who was a premiership midfield coach, and yet we go through long periods in a match where we literally do not touch the ball at the centre bounce. How many times today did the Crows just pounce on the footy and go? Embarrassing stuff.

Also does anyone know why Rivers was subbed off? Injured I assume, because he was playing well.

I'd be disappointing if he wasn't with us next year. One of the few senior players this year who have been consistent and showed good leadership.

P.S.- whoever the [censored] #11 umpire is, please go learn the rules you absolute hopeless cause. One of the worst umpires I have ever had the displeasure of seeing!

At least 25% of this list needs to be turned over by October.

That's about 10 players 'Wyl'.

But here's the sad bit - have a look at the list of our players who didn't play today . How many of them are safe ?

I had a look and I came up with about 9 - 12 players who might be under pressure or are gone . None of them played today . A couple/few are contracted too . A total re-build is not out of the question .

We looked fairly good in the 1st quarter today . After that , it was awful .

We need to trade in some talent and get some free agents - desperately . At least 5 or 6 experienced players are needed who know how to play footy , 2012 style ! If that happens , then maybe things will get better in a hurry .

It's not really feasible to turn over more than 10 players in one year so in all honesty there's possibly another 8 - 10 of our current list who will go at the end of 2013 .

I wish I could be less honest ...

They're written on the wall next to the escalators inside gate three. You pass them every time you go to the game.

... at the end of a season with plenty of players who either a) didn't have a full-season or B) are too young to have had many pre-seasons.

Jordie had 18 touches - hardly a disaster.

We got smacked in the middle but we were playing a team at the top of the ladder with one of the best centre square groups (inc. Thompson, sigh).

However, we also broke even on inside 50s. That stat can be misleading but it suggests that today was nowhere near as bad as the negative nellies would have us believe.

Barely passable either, especially when half of them go nowhere. Bail is in the same boat. Honest triers but C-graders with zero ability to hurt the opposition.

Until we get some real midfielders to replace guys like these we don't stand a hope in hades.

It's not unusual to turn over about 25% of a list in a year (including retirements, rookies etc), but I'm not convinced that 50% of our list is that bad that it should be completely changed. In all fairness, very little, if any, mention has been made of coaching in this thread - Brian Royal has been discussed in another thread - I think at least some responsibility has to be taken by the coaches (without getting into the familiar coaching debate).

Adelaide ... fitter, stronger, bigger, more experienced.

Work to do, we ain't gonna find all that in one off-season.

Add much faster and more slick with their work and finishing. We seem to recruit slow small mids without tricks and not big enough key position players? Anyhow after events I saw at the "G" today, I was far from convinced about Joel McD and LD having saved their careers and would like to see Fitzpatrick , Gys and Davis into the side next week.

During the third quarter i sent an email to the club cancelling my automatic membership renewal. I can understand many things, but a complete lack of heart was the final straw. Much more rewarding things i can waste my coin on.

Thant's good the club doeesn't need pessimists, especially demonland

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
