The Revolution rolls on.

Disagree with the love some are showing for Rivers. Being a long-time servant doesn't make you a quality footballer. Just a long serving one.

Time to raise the bar.

I'd imagine Geelong will offer an insulting pick like a 5th round draft pick for Gysberts, just to see if they can get something for nothing.

I doubt they'll be too desperate for him. They probably just have memories of his debut game against Geelong.

I'm surprised with Rivers being told to wait when we seem to be awfully keen to tie up the likes of Jake Spencer & Rohan Bail.

By the way Bail was brought straight in to the side when he finally passed the concussion test, I'd say Neeld is a fan. I'm surprised he's rushing to sign Spencer, but as I've said before he's aggressive and has a dip; perhaps in the current environment that's enough - Bail probably falls under that banner too.

No mention of Fitzpatrick either.

The rush to sign Spencer would seem to indicate we have no interest in drafting Grundy.

I think its a fair assessment of these players.

Rivers - good player, but can't find the right spot in the 22, be worth trading.

Petterd - might get a spot in the 22 without Green, but looks one dimensional.

Moloney - could be retained despite terrible season, be interesting to see his value on the market and a trade might be best for a clean start for both parties.

Davis, thought he was showing a lot of potential, but we're well stocked for tall defenders, I'd keep him or trade for different type of player.

Bennell - shame the potential is there, but its just not happening.

Joel Macdonald, Lynden Dunn, Matthew Bate - these guys won't be able to take it to the next level required.

Gysberts - article says he is contracted and hints at Geelong interest - I think he's our best clearance player, but hasn't got the fitness to be played.

"Insulting" to whom, precious?

If the pick is not worth it we just say no and pat our weeping eyes with a hanky

MFC previously the place where NQR's and list cloggers lived high on the hog.

What an indictment on the last 5 years.

I look forward to the forthcoming catharsis.

Never again should the MFC be the graveyard for second rate.

I'd be very very disappointed if we didn't offer Rivers a decent contract to keep him put.

He has been one of our best, most consistent senior players and has not dropped his head once, despite being demoted from the leadership group.

As for Jurrah, if we get rid of him because it's just all "too hard", then we should be ashamed of ourselves as a club.

The same could be said about Jetta, injured all pre-season, gets injured first game back, long rehab a couple of games at Casey back in the team and again poor game against North gets 1 week then straight back. I love Jetta's attack on the footy and the man hope he gets another 2 years.

The rest we have to wait and see, the club would be be considering what they would get if Moloney went as a free agent, if we could get end of first round pick for Moloney you would almost take that. Anything less we would be better off with Moloney on our list.

I find it a little concerning that this information is out in the public domain, every interview or article that has quotes from a Melbourne Official they clearly state "we will not comment on player contract negotiations" you hope that this is player agent driven and the information has come from there and not from the club.

Court case aside

He's had an 11 week ankle injury (unheard of)

He has shown an inability to be able to reach AFL level of fitness.

I'm worried he doesn't have the application to work hard. Id prefer the club delist him and depending on the court case he is given a rookie position.

If I were in charge -

Delist - MacDonald, Petterd, Dunn, Bate, Bartram, Bennell, Davis, Spencer

Re-Sign - Jurrah, Moloney, Rivers, Strauss, Bail, Blease, Sellar

If we are following the moneyball plan I dont see how you would get rid of Macdonald cheap and reliable. His last month or so has been very good.

Spencer is terrific trade bait or back up. His performances in recent times show he has the makings of a agile AFL ruck and I bet a few clubs would be interested.

Gys is the interesting one. Perhaps there is some complicated deal in the works that involves Boak, us and Geelong.

The most interesting part of the year for us is going to be trade week.

Make it Trade month, basically the whole of October is the trade window.

No mention of Cook or Jetta who are OOC this year!

And Cook has been droped to Casey 2nds this week.

Technically hasn't been dropped to the seconds, but he is on the extended bench and named in the seconds as well. So yeah it's likely, but not a definite. Still not a good look I guess. Viney named as the 23rd player for the seniors I notice as well.

We cannot afford to lose Rivers. He is our general down back. I know he has been playing foward and he has shown to be ok there as well. He is an experienced player who we need and I will be filthy if we lose him.

Interesting that Mortons name isnt there.

I always said Lynden Dunn would be more famous for his moustache than his football.

This might be for a seperate thread but our Round 1 team next year may look like this:

Strauss Frawley McDonald

Tapscott Watts Garland

Trengove Sylvia Boak

Blease Clark Jurrah

Howe Cloke Davey

Jamar Jones Grimes

I/C: McKenzie, Viney, Chapman (or ?), Bail

Emerg: Jetta Evans

Gys and Pick 12 to Geelong and/or Port in some combination in some complicated deal.

But being a quality long serving footballer makes you worth signing.

Rivers is above the bar.

If Geelong want Gys, he'll go. Serious questions and concerns about him and Cook.

Dont expect to see those two in red and blue anytime soon

The "general in the backline" is about as valid as the "bleeds red and blue" on Moloney.

Morton is contracted in 2013 and would have FA trade value.

The rest we have to wait and see, the club would be be considering what they would get if Moloney went as a free agent, if we could get end of first round pick for Moloney you would almost take that. Anything less we would be better off with Moloney on our list.

Where do we sign? Beamer is a 25-40 pick at best IMO.

You are flossing. Its a damning assessment of where the player is at. His last 2 matches have been crud in the VFL 1sts. Given our injury list and the lack of other Fwds at Casey to be dropped is not a good sign.

Everyone seems to be posting on the assumption that the media article is correct

This is amusing because normally 'landers poo-hah media articles on the mfc as being speculative and mischievous

Until I see some confirmation from the club i'll be taking this article with a grain of salt

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
