"The match also has long-term ramifications given GWS has promised to bid for Demons father-son candidate Jack Viney should it finish below Melbourne.

It would see the Demons giving up a top-three pick for Viney rather than a mid-20s national draft selection, adding salt to the wound opened when the Giants poached Scully."

When did this happen?

This worries me if it is true.

If true I would adopt the Eddie approach and make a quiet phone call to GWS reminding them that Patton was a MFC supporter and that as a family club, how concerned the MFC is that he is separated from his mother and sister and that it is incumbent on us to help him get back to his family. A huge pay packet would also help the family with any financial issues and of course, we would advise that there is a job open to his mother and sister at the MFC, as they are widely regarded as being among Australia's leading membership assistants and a salary of $100000.00 each could be available over say 6 years.

If he was not interested in coming home, we could advise that we would find out who is and offer them a suitable package for themselves and their family.

We really are the family club.

We have 6 pages on this topic, I wonder how many of the people who have posted will go on Sunday. I think we will be lucky to get 15,000, cold Sunday, 3.10 start live free to air, GWS have no supporters.

I told my family at the end of last season that even if I was on life support, I would want them to take me to this game. I am battling a head cold with no voice at present but pouring the honey and lemon drinks down now as I speak. My husband and daughter (Collingwood supporters) and BF (Essendon supporter) are coming with me and very interested to do so - I didnt have to twist anyones arm to come with me.

I hope we stick it to GWS.

Sheedy has never respected us and feels humiliated that we turned him down for the senior coaching position.

This burned into a hatred of us and need for revenge of some sort which blinded him to get Scully at whatever the cost causing GWS to pay massive overs for good ordinary.

The jokes on Sheedy.

Disagree on motive for Scully. I reckon they wanted the number one pick whoever it was for bragging rights up north...err and a bit west.

This is why people who say we should have gone for Jack T or Martin number one miss the point - Sheeds was after whoever went one.

Agree he's got a gripe with us and maybe the coaching thing stung. I didn't want him but in hindsight Bails did not exactly set us up for great things and maybe Sheeds sees that and it twists the knife.

Whatever! I'd rather we be talked about than not. Go for it you silly old geezer.

.....reminding them that Patton was a MFC supporter....

If there was ever a method for making sure a player never comes to or thrives at the club, then surely it is pointing out he was a MFC supporter as kid.

MFCSS lives.

Don't go to snow, get the best of both worlds MFC supporters!

For one week only, 2 of the worlds greatest downhill skiers will be putting on an exhibition, LIVE on the hallowed MCG turf.

Grab your thermoses, get out the crocheted blankets, jump into the new Rangy, and come and see Brent Moloney and Colin Sylvia carve up some snowflakes, for not one, not two, but maybe even THREE quarters of football!

BE THERRRRRE

Haha Sheedy trying hard to make his plastic club relevant.

Thinks he building a rivalry but forgets Melbourne has been around for 154 years and will pretty soon forget about a bloke who played 30 games.

I don't care who does it, I'd like him to be laid out on the turf at some stage in the game. Just as a reminder of where he came from.

Hoping we belt them.

Also hoping Scully is completely wiped out, even if it's unfairly and our player cops a suspension for it. I want him, and anyone else, to know that if you walk out on us, we will hurt you, and make sure you're never right again.

What I find interesting is the following comment:

The match also has long-term ramifications given GWS has promised to bid for Demons father-son candidate Jack Viney should it finish below Melbourne.

So if GWS finish bottom, they're effectively saying that they rate Jack Viney the number 1 player in the draft and would take him with pick 1.

Very interesting that they can already make this decision when the draft is 5 months away and we are in the middle of the National Championships. Viney must be so far ahead of every other player in the draft that GWS can confidently say in the middle of June that they will take Viney with pick 1 in the draft.

Gee, seems to me to be very early to make such an important decision.

I don't know whether GWS have made such a promise. But if they have it seems to me to be just about the clearest evidence of draft tampering as you could get.

Hope you get well enough to see a good win Jane!

.... is it just me or did other people think you were bringing your husband, daughter and your BF along to the game  (had to read it twice to realise it was the Daughter's BF)

Scully came from the hallowed earth of the MCG? How primordial. Perhaps there's Wurundjeri story or myth that could be applicable. Something to do with Snakes, Suns, earth and karmic retribution

Are people reading a little more into this comment than is actually there? I think that comment is just Jon Ralph rehashing the comments made a couple of months ago where it was mooted that the GWS would make Melb pay the "correct" price for Viney by nominating him, thus making us pay pick 3. It's not a confirmation that it actually is happening I don't believe IMO

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.

    LAST DANCE by The Oracle

Forget the wishful thinking from Magpie fans who think their team can perform yet another miracle and somehow snatch a place in the 2024 finals series when their team takes on the Demons at the MCG on Friday night. It ain’t gunna happen. They can whistle Dixie through their non-existent front teeth but the fact of the matter is that both teams have run their race. The game is a dead rubber — for each of them, this will be the last dance of the season.  And given the history between the two

    RED FACED by Whispering Jack

The wind and the hot unseasonable temperatures together with lights turned on mid game at People First Stadium conspired to leave many Suns players and supporters red faced and gasping for air as the Demons proved a number of points on their way to a nine goal triumph on Saturday afternoon in the Carrara sunshine. Melbourne is the only non-Queensland team to taste victory at this venue in 2024. This surely leaves a number of journalists and media mavens red faced after they rushed to pass
