"Don't go to the snow, come see Scully" - Sheedy

To the average football fan this game is irrelevant, the only supporters that will be there are Melbourne supporters and a few who other people who can't find a funeral to attend.

Sheedy should be more concerned about the state of the GWS support; he's been spruiking them for two years and they still number in the hundreds. Rivalry; there's none, they don't deserve to have any rivals, you earn that privilege.

A mate of mine is a GWS Captain's Club member - essentially an inner sanctum GWS coterie containing about 20-25 corporate partners.

He has invited me to several functions, most recently one at which John Quinn (Head of Sports Science) and Alan McConnell (Head of Development) spoke - this was only a fortnight ago.

In short, I was very impressed. John Quinn has a brilliant CV and he appears to be very well respected in this area. Spoke extremely well too. I was astonished at how scientific the game is at AFL level - it was clear we were simply miles off the pace prior to the new regime entering the fold (ie, Neeld, Misson and Craig).

John Quinn gave a fantastic presentation - no one wanted it to finish. Following it, my one take out was that, as supporters on the outer, we literally have no idea what goes on with match day considerations/game plans etc - it's literally laughable the gulf between the analysis of the internet keyboard heroes here (including me) and the actual inner sanctum of a club.

Anyway, I digress.

The GWS appear to be a professional outfit. They have come a long way in a short time in a region that is not particularly well disposed to the code. They have recruited tough, young, talented players - arguably unlike us. It's somewhat ironic that they took our number one draft pick.

Don't get me wrong - I hope we pump the bejeezus outta them this weekend. But I don't wish them heaps of ill will. They're just another struggling sports team trying to find relevance in a region which isn't really giving them a natural leg up.

The other thing I've learnt from attending these events is that Sheedy is a bloody legend. I used to hate him. I now think he's a great speaker and motivator - in short, a legend of the game.

At the time I thought the MFC was absolutely inspired in appointing Bailey. I now think we missed a great opportunity when we overlooked Sheedy - I think our list would be in much better shape now had we given him the gig 5 years ago.

That said, I'm stoked we have Neeld now. This decision, I believe with absolutely certainty, was the correct one.

Hey RB, not having a stab just keen to know how MFC was so far behind before the new footy dept came on board, had you had some dealings or similar insites as provided during the GWS lunch?

And again keen to know why you think Sheedy, as solely a motivator, would have gotten more out of our club and made our list better over the last 5 years? To me that doesn't make sense especially as we'd bottomed out (well we thought we had harph harph) and we were "miles off the pace prior to the new regime entering the fold.." until this year with our great new coach and the fancy new footy dept.

You haven't caught any GWS games over the last month or so?

No-one is taking them seriously for four quarters with Richmond highlighting what can happen if sides get too far ahead of themselves.

I can speak from my dealings direct with Mark Neeld as I stated in other threads MFC absolutely was miles and miles behind other clubs off field especially when he took over. One example where he had to lobby the board to cough up $$$ to buy software for scientific analysis every single other club has had for years......

RB is spot on the dees thought they were cutting edge when in fact they were so far behind it was a total disgrace.

Revenge is a dish best served with a side of a 100 point victory.

But lets not kid ourselves, we'd all be chuckling in delight like a fat kid in an all-you-can-eat buffet, if Scully gets physically destroyed on Sunday.

I for one already think Mitch Clark is the greatest thing since sliced bread and Prada, but if he nails Scully, I will tattoo his name on my arse.

Yea I have seen you post that and it is an interesting insite and while we can see the outcomes of being behind other clubs recently, i'm keen to know where and how far behind we were. I still find it hard to believe we could have been so far off the rest of the comp in all aspects and for how long? Was it purely a $$ issue or we just had people with no idea running the footy dept, and if so then before Bails (as he fell on his clipboard for the club and then it seemed a $$ issue) our head coaches generally should be applauded for having a little success? I'm not sure if it is a question as I'm not sure they should be applauded or were part of the problem.

So many head scratchings!

NOTED.

Recorded time and date the above mentioned statement was made, and if it actually occurs you now must follow through with it. With accompanying photographic evidence of course. B) :P

Anyone tempted to go to the bank, exchange a crisp 50, for 50 $1 american dollars, get a bag and sprinkle it over scully as he is walking down/up the race on sunday?

Like the [censored] needs more money.

Give the $50 to Reach, and throw horse manure at him instead.

Look I'm no expert but I'm led to believe a combination of lack of $$ and yes the coaches previously accepted this. Styles changed this and has afforded the current coaching regime the basics required to compete on a level playing field off the field.

IMO, just for the record, it's Hawthorn supporters who drive Range Rovers and go skiing! (Based on observation of car park stickers in years gone by! Yes, they watch a game, then take a few days R and R at the snow while the rest of us work!)

As for this thread, WIN THE GAME, WIN THE GAME, WIN THE GAME, who cares about Sheedy, Scully and anyone else opposed to MFC for that matter! We have already given them too much publicity!

Lol. We have something else to look forward to this week....

In light of recent events, this could reach tabloid proportions. In fact, it's not a bad marketing initiative Jaded.

If Clark nails Scully and you follow through with proof of a tattoo of "Mitch Clark" on your rear end , I'll add another Heartland Membership to my existing memberships for 2013.

Ahh good old optimism.

I think we'll get our arse kicked personally, this would be a very Melbourne like thing to do

If we get done on Sunday, I will definitely be having a sick day off work on Monday.

Literally.

Couldn't give a toss about GWS. So very insignificant.

All I care about is our players and supporters ripping into Scully. Nothing less than a win is acceptable.

An absolute battering followed by the boys against men cliche in the post match conference goes a very long way to getting beneath someones skins. If we kill them physcially and then come out with this line Sheedy might implode on the spot. Hes targetting us as their next win and we need to stand up. Coming up with the dont go to the snow line when more people go watch fevola play a club game in Tassie than people go watch an GWS AFL game shows the classless of a men. Its time to stop letting other AFL clubs bully, especially this irrelevant little experiment

I hope we hit Scully hard, fair - but hard and really make him feel as though he is out there alone.

The kid lied, to our players, to our supporters, to our board and to the whole football department,

he needs to be held accountable for his untruthful actions and I personally hope we end his career in a hard - but fair manner.

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
