Changes for Round 5 vs St Kilda

Just to clear things up, it's Tom Mc and Joel Mac.

Whenever I read these threads I get incredibly frustrated with people who don't take the time to spell our players' names correctly. We all support the same team, but as a matter of respect to the players, spell their damn names right!

We do not have a Bartrum, Sellars, Tom Macdonald, Joel McDonald, Pettard, Maloney, Silvia, Clarke or Trengrove. It takes two seconds to get it right; please make the effort.

If Ricky Petterd doesn't get a game this week, something is wrong.

How he cannot get a game over seriously average players like MacDonald, McDonald, Sellar and Dunn is a joke. I understand he played a poor game v West Coast, but how many others have put in continued poor games and not gotten dropped.

In- Petterd, Sylvia, Grimes, Martin (if fit)

Out- MacDonald, Dunn, Sellar, McDonald

See how we go Playing 1 less tall. Kozi out for them is handy.

I'd play Sylvia permanent as a stay at home fwd this week rather than ease him back in the vfl. We need class forwards up there!

Certainly our best 22 so far.

If consistency of effort is going to be one of the key criteria for selection, it shouldn't be too much to expect that someone who wants to put their hand up for the firsts, should consistently excel in the seconds. By consistency, I mean more than once in succession. From the Casey report twoweeks ago, it didn't sound as if he's managed it once yet. I would continue to omit him.

Your other 3 outs have all at least shown that they'll give 100%, Dunn I don't really understand how he holds his place but that might be my lack of perception. He has a good few supporters so they obviously see something beyond his Jacko-type posturing.

Just because a player gives 100% doesn't mean that they deserve to play. I'd give 100% week in and week out, yet for some reason I keep getting overlooked on draft day. Strange...

I agree but it seems to be one of the absolute key criteria with our coaching panel and, at the very least, I think if we are going to develop a winning culture, we need to clearly draw the line for players wanting to get into the ones that shows what's expected of them. I am tired of strategy-less experimentation.

...... If a player is dropped (as he was) it probably indicates that he lacks effort, fitness or skill. I think that players need to earn their places in the team barring a catastrophe. ......

you mean like Davey between round 1 and 3?

You left off Liam Jurrah. It should be spelt 'Jarrah'.

I'm not trying to suggest that consistency of effort is the only thing. I guess the other basic elements that go into making a superior player would include speed, skill and discipline. Davey certainly has at least a couple of these and the panel seemed to make a judgement that he was a better option than Petterd given the current state of the team.

If he gets dropped this or any other week, I would hope that he wouldn't be brought back until his performances warranted a return.

Why is Bartram escaping the axe? Bloke (Dalhuis) who's played 15 games flogged him.

OUT: MacDonald, McDonald, Bartram, Sellar, Dunn.

IN: Sylvia, Grimes, Martin, Petterd and a backman who can kick a ball to a team mate from 15 metres.

Firstly, we don't have one.

Secondly, Bartram will play his 100th this week and who do you suggest we play on Milne? Bennell?

My team against Saints:

Bartram Frawley Garland

Grimes Rivers Morton

Bail Moloney Trengove

Sylvia Watts Howe

Davey Clarke Petterd

Foll: Jamar Jones Magner

Int: Martin Couch Bate Tapscott (sub)

In: Couch Grimes Petterd Martin Sylvia

Out: Macdonald Sellar McKenzie McDonald Dunn

Ps Even though i would like to see Petterd in I don't think his form will warrant selection with the match commitee

Fathead Ed called him "Trengrove" the other night. I wanted to reach through the screen and punch his purple face.

Every week I look at our lineup on paper and think, "they can do the job", this week being no different.

You could even mount a case that with Jurrah, Gysberts, Strauss etc to come back, we have good depth.

Again, it's only on paper.

I look at our team and think the same. It's disappointing after each game. It has to go back the players struggling with form and a new game plan. I also have to think that the current game plan isn't the way Neeld wants us to play. Particulary the offensive part to the game, run and spread etc.

OUT: McDonald, Tapscott (needs fitness) McKenzie

IN: Sylvia Grimes and Couch

MacDonald the sub backup in case we play Milne back into form. Otherwise would prefer to see Trengove go to defence. He's not getting the ball in the middle and all three of Sylvia, Grimes and Couch are more likely to get more ball.

Hardest week of the year for Neeld with some players coming back. Go Dees.

Congrats to Clint Bartram on playing his 100th this weekend. Seems only a short while ago that skinny blond kid made his debut.

Doesn't say much about our 'senior' players when only the following have played more games than him: Davey, Green, Jamar, Jones, Joel Mac, Beamer, Rivers and Sylvia.

Will Sylvia play at Casey for Match fitness or come straight back in to the line up?

I thought I heard somewhere that Neeld has said he'll play for Casey..

I love it when people get charged up over why player X gets selected over player Y when in most cases they are playing different roles and the person they are aggrieved about does not have any superior claim to a position in the side on form.

RIght so who better to play the FP role? Bennell or Blease? I dont think so. There are a myriad of issues that get taken into selection not just 1 or 2 hard and fast rules

Maybe.

But you might have overheard or read that about Jurrah.

I think it says more about our terrible drafting and ruthless youth policy than our remaining senior players.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
