Something nobody has really mentioned is that straight of the bat Neeld has failed to deliver something he said he'd do - watching his presser last week he made it very clear that he was angry and that blokes were going to be dropped because of it.

'will the same 22 travel to Perth? Not on your life. Am I going to go down a similar road and continue to put blind faith in players? No way, absolutely no way. That's fair enough, that's not a threat, that's not anything other than being honest, and that's what the players were told.'

He dropped ONE BLOKE. All the other changes were forced. I don't know how that is being honest and forthright, and I don't know how it is supposedly taking a no BS approach to what is expected of the players. There's a good 15 blokes who have put in two pathetic performances so far, if there aren't a bunch of changes this week how is that not 'blind faith'

I don't think it matters too much who's brought in, bar Morton, the key is to send a message to those dropped. Green, Bennel etc need to know they're going to the magoos and need to decide whether they want to stay there or change their attitude and commit like AFL footballers. We're going to be belted either way so the biggest gain is the message sent and onus put back on thedropped players.

Fair enough but hes only got another 12 or so blokes to step up. the list of those at Casey is not long enough to drop 16 players every week.

From what I saw of the Eagles last year they were a top 4 side.

they've improved all over on last year, bigger classier, better more confident & hungry. IMO better than carlton. Equal to the Hawks. More powerful than the Pies.

The only thing they're lacking compared to Brown Paper Carton, would be the mosquito fleet of the blues.

People want him to rant and rave and be out of control. Apparently there's something wrong with being calm and measured - it means you've got no HEART or SPIRIT (because they mean more if you write them in BIG LETTERS) or some other such hyperbolic nonsense.

Correct. A big emphasis on our youth. I have only watched the first half of the presser because it kept buffering but it was littered with "our young boys", "the youth on our list", "we have a young group", "the development of our young boys". He definitely learnt from last week.

Mark Neeld placed too little emphasis on our own players. He kept going on about how good the other side was, but he never said anything about how he went about curtailing the opposition's effectiveness. He seemed content to let them do their thing and cut us up. He called them "slick," but he refused to do anything to slow their ball movement. He put no sand in the smooth West Coast machine, and let us chug along like a broken old engine. Not good enough. Last week he also mentioned how great the Lions midfield was, but he never tagged Black. He never moved Frawley onto Rockliff, and he never rotated anyone interesting into our midfield.

How can you criticise our players' lack of effort when the coach gives them no in-game impetus to change. If I'm playing, and I see my coach make positional changes, I start to feel like my coach still believes the momentum can change. If the coach does nothing, then I do nothing. Nothing changes if those with the power to change things do not exercise that power. I was one of Neeld's staunchest supporters last week, but his unwillingness to make positional changes in two consecutive games illustrates that he hasn't learned from his mistakes. Dean Bailey didn't learn from his mistakes either, and look where that led him.

Similarly, he kept Bate as the sub two weeks in a row. No coach ever does that, particularly when the sub actually show something in his limited time on the ground. 10 possessions in a quarter in round one, and yet he puts him on the bench again, despite bringing in four new players and having a 32 year old play the entire game, and Jordie McKenzie (who nearly missed the whole pre-season) too. Worrying signs from a man who I'm quickly falling out of love with. My concern for Neeld is not based on our losses, but on his seeming unwillingness as a young coach to learn from his mistakes, or to change things. Change is good. In the AFL, nothing successful remains stagnant for long.

Im thinking with all the crap Neeld copped last week he held back. Im sure behing closed doors and at training he will let the team know what they did wrong. Truth be told I loved his presser last week. At least we have a coach that is just honest. I saw a bit of his presser but had to turn off because his left eye kept twitching and it was freaky. Mark was on 3aw today and he is just going to stick to his game plan that he believes in and knows its along road ahead.

My god I just hope we can beat richmond. A win would really make a difference and let the focus go to another club like richmond.

I just read Neeld's quotes in the Age. I am yet to see the video.

I can understand his angle. There is no point yelling and going off tap, although i bet he would love to. He has got to back his players he knows they are not fit enough.

Neeld the teacher. I like it.

But what the hell happened from 2007-11.

Was there any training? Our Football Dept needed the overhaul in 2009. I fear some of our talent has left us because it was not nurtured.

I've read a lot of reactions to this press conference. Dean Bailey Mark II is how I would describe the performance. But Dean was tanking and had something to hide.

Neeld is really battling. He seems out of his depth in handling the press.

Not much that can be done with it I suppose, we've been belted at home by a rubbish interstate team (Carlton flogged them by almost 100 points, to give us an idea of Brisbane's strength) and pantsed by the Eagles. About the only hope I can hold onto is how bad Richmond were in Hardwick's first half of his first season.

Perhaps it is going to take time.

But I feel genuine anger towards our club. All the nonsense talk in the pre-season. Hardest team to play etc. It's just guff. There was no effort to manage expectations a little.

One other point, while the club is being cleaned out can someone move on that muppet Brian Royal? He only got a gig because no one else wanted to work for us. We've got 25 coaches, we don't need to pay someone to make an already bad midfield worse.

I went to the game yesterday and it's quite incredible to watch the Eagles structure up when they get the footy. The speed at which they got into position and the confidence they had when passing the footy was awesome to watch. They just knew where their team mates were going to be.

This is the same team that won the wooden spoon in 2010.

I'm sure that Neeld referring to the Eagles as slick, and that our players getting a close-up look at them will only benefit their development and understanding of what Neeld is trying to implement in the way of a game plan.

People said that the Eagles had tanked in 2010 but that's far from the truth. The Eagles of 2010 were sticking to their guns and building a brand of football that wins games and earns finals appearances. It was a long year for them but it appears to be paying off.

We need to give our players and new coaching staff the same opportunity to implement then consolidate their new brand. I understand we absolutely have to turn a few blokes over at years end, but let's all take a deep, deep breath and let the experts play their hand.

Agree with this. On a positive note, at least Clark fronted the media for a substantial interview; didn't say a lot, but he must step up and be a front man regularly.

Neeld mentioned in his presser moving some blokes about (Howe to half back/wing for one). but agree, would like to see, eg, Clark moved to the ruck for a bit.

I watched a replay of the game on the AFl website video, and I reckon Neeld got it spot on in his press conference. We played a half of footy OK and we weren't "horrible" as so many seem to suggest. On another post I compared the Dees of yesterday to Fitzroy of the mid-90's and the lack of energy is similar. But Neeld's summing up seemed to be spot on, and like what McQueen says above about how Worsfold stuck to his game plan in 2010 and just bore the pain.

It seems to me that Neeld is preferring one half of the game being played according to his model resulting in a huge loss, than a small loss using a game plan that will never stand up in a final. I agree with him.

I am still being cautious and will not "buy in" to Mark Neeld but I agree with him on the game versus the Eagles.

I am all in when it comes to mark neeld. I don't want a media performer I want a coach. His gameplan doesn't suit our little bodied players so the next few drafts will be interesting.
