Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep,liked what I saw in this guy Magner!

Really had a hard crack at it and got the pill alot for the time he spent out there.

Agree with throwing it at J Brown was nice! Mitch giving it to Warnock wasnt he...

Mitch loves to talk doesnt he! I love it and he will be brilliant for us.

I wonder what Magner has for a nickname?

Magnum?? Gun? I hope he is one!

I think theres room for Magner and McKenzie in the same team. Magner, McKenzie and Viney though probably a different story but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

How strong are the guys tackles? Dead set look like he was gonna kill a player. Like the aggression, like it a lot!

Loved his game last night.

His 1%'s, blocks and tackle were outstanding. My two favourite moments were the the two bumps on K. Hunt & J Brown.

Barring an injury i think he is a lock for Round 1. Really looking forward to seeing him repeat his efforts against the Pies A grade midfield next week

Thought Magner performed well in the conditions, will hold judgement till I see him play in dry conditions against quality opposition.

So saying loved his bump on Brown, shows he won't take a backwards step regardless of who gets in his way.

Something sorely missed in recent years.

Magnet...nice!

If he keeps it up he will be elevated and put in round 1..but it is only one game & lets see how he fairs against others.

But so far very handy.

Nathan Jones said his nickname is Cannonball and that he bench-presses the heaviest at the club. I get the distinct impression he isn't going to die wondering - he's worked hard for his chance and he's going to make the most of it. I doubt he thinks he's "made it" now, unfortunately some players appear to.

The Coach is delivering the reality check to players you allude to. Magner will show a desperation and hardness at the contest we have lacked so badly in years gone by. His use of the ball will be important obviously, but I think his attack will be the most valuable trait the younger (and older) brigade can gain confidence and learn from.

I'd be very surprised if he does not make it on the seniors list this season.

Ed: A new Mod' (I just noticed), thanks Old55.

I believe I mentioned this in another thread but Brian Royal told me at the AGM that they were all very pleased with Magner and that he would probably start in round 1.

His attack and hardness at the ball and at the opposition is something we have sorely missed for some years.

And I reckon he'll revel in the midfield. And yes that little encounter with JB was heartening to see.

I suppose that as a mature age recruit and having played 5, 6 or more years at VFL level, Magner's seen a somewhat cruder, less mature version of the game and probably isn't in particular awe of anyone.

His work ethic and 1%'s to get the initial possession to feed it out to our running players was great to see. We have been without a player like this, and if he performs like this week in week out he will definitely be a valuable midfielder for our long term success.

Watching Magner this year will be quite interesting. He has probably sat back and watched guys that he's either played with as a junior, played alongside of that were AFL listed players, or played against AFL listed players and outplayed a number of them. He has probably asked himself a number of times why he isn't on an AFL list. He now has his opportunity, and I don't think he will rest now.

On the other hand, he will have to be very careful at how agessive he is. I'm not wanting him to take a backward step, but if he starts giving away silly free kicks, he could be umpired out of the game. A lot more gets noticed off the ball in the big league.

This is not criticising him, I just hope it's something we don't have to worry about and that he can get away with playing his natural, tough game.

Sometimes I think we overthink...

If any club could afford to give away free kicks for being overly aggressive it is the MFC.

I'm happy for him to give an account of himself in 2012 that will rub off on the Gysberts and Co.

RP - I am making this comment based on my observations of what I saw off the ball sitting at Metricon in the mosoon the other night. I'm not discouraging toughness whatsoever, I was one of the first to my feet to let Brown know about Cyclone Magner, I just hope that he is smart with his agression.

Knowing for a fact that the umpires targeted Moloney in his early days at Melbourne, I don't want the same to happen to Magner (or Trengove for that matter).

Halfway through third quarter versus Pies, now I'm convinced. HE'S GOOD!!! First round certainty after elevation from the rookies list.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
