Training went well, just cut and paste Friday's report and it was the same. Good news out of today, we are getting more players in the main group or spending time working with the main group. The only players that didn't join the main group for any part of the session was Sylvia, Moloney, Petterd, Bail, Bartram, Morton, Lawrence, Evans, Jurrah (they are just pumping miles into his legs) - I may have missed a couple but the rest either did the running with the main group or joined in with whne the balls came out.

Running 12 x 200m would have been aiming for around 30sec 200m, then 2min to get back to the starting line to do it again slow jog back for most.

Again worked on the zoning like Friday, thank god it is November because we sucked at this, it was harder as the ground was made narrower by about 5-10m each side. If you go to training expect to see this drill as ne need to learn how to defend and how to break through the zone. From the set up of both teams look like we are working to have three talls up forward, the whites had Martin Clark and Watts working together with Watts and Martin working through CHF.

They are working hard but have a lot of work to do over the next 3 months.

Josh Tynan has good positioning but poor, very poor kicking skills, misses lot of targets and his kicks have little power on them, needs to change his ball drop.

That's a surprise because the reports from the Under 18s was that his disposal was excellent. Perhaps he had a bad first day.

He wasn't on his own in the bad kicking stakes, a little nerves he will get better.

Mind you, this JT might have been our second pick on the day, as was our other JT - but we can expect a big difference in skill levels between a pick in the 50s and pick 2.

Is Sylvia injured ? If not surely its time for him to join the main group !

I think he had a calf but is fine now, Neeld is holding him back, still punishment!

Last week Silvia was walking up the Anderson street hill with a trainer, so I suspect they are still rehabbing him. It was also good to see Grimes doing the 200 reps with the main group - this is the first time he's been with them. And Sellar looked quite good in the full ground circle work - certainly more polished than many others

We keep hearing that Jurrah is doing constant half speed laps with a trainer. Is this a case of increasing his fitness, or are they trying to retrain the way he runs? Possibly both even? I know we often hear that they are working on someone's running technique.

Both- keep his fitness up- this is the most intense running he has ever done but also to keep his spirits up and assist his technique.

I was surprised by that too. Fletcher Roberts is another tall IIRC - not sure about the others.

Well I am rapt we are looking at least at another tall rookie to supplement our list. This draft has got plenty and all will take time.We have many young ones already however I feel that there is doubts over Davis( although he looks great this pre season, Cook whom wasn't sighted today,Sellar- who knows?therefore we need at least one rookie to be a tall.

There aren't any doubts about Davis at club level. Both he and Tom McDonald exceeded expectations last season and will play senior footy in 2012.

Both are great athletes with a fierce competitive side.

Well done with your report- I held back until this post - good on ya. I heard the same re Sylvia, being set up as an example but definitely got a calf.May have come from the accident.

I believe it originates from the old Saxon "Clusterbuck" when many families would be housed in a single dwelling.

One of the first changes was when the "f" was written as "b" in the Doomsday book.

Very good Frankie.

Don't know why, but I really like this. By all reports these two have been the biggest strugglers fitness wise - I guess where it'll be interesting is how this pre-season caning affects their seasons on the field given how they both tailed off last season, and how their pre-seasons look next year by comparison.

Ahh November: the month when you could tell me pretty much anything the club is doing and I'd think it was great.

Both are really struggling fitness wise.Gysberts is really feeling it after say 200 metres of the 400 metre drills. You can here him moaning about it. Blease, today, seemed a little better, but for midfielders or potential to become , they are behind bigtime.

Also, please note, osh Mahoney told me today, they will be at Casey on Wednesday's starting from this Wednesday., Gosh's paddock -Monday & Friday's at this stage.

In his first year Troy Davis missed the pre season and first half due to a Thyroid issue. I think he'll make it. He's got size, speed and some grunt. Played some good VFL footy at times last year in the games I saw.

Davis definitely has some size about him. A fair bit bigger (bulk-wise) than Tom McDonald.

Whilst he may have had a set-back with a broken leg, James Strauss has definitely put on some serious muscle, without getting fat either. Said he was aiming for a return in round 2 of the NAB cup.

As for those who say Max Gawn is a man-mountain, please.........Sure he is tall, but he has got a long way to go to get anywhere near Stef Martin's muscle size. Still gangly and previous training reports, imo, have been very generous in size gained.

Funniest thing i saw from today was Jack Fitzpatrick's running style. When running, he moves his neck like a racehorse does at full speed (stretches it out).

Of the front-runners, Bate was very willing to continue with the 200/300m repetitive runs, and was starting to really show his endurance and easily outpaced Couch in the last few runs. Nicho was always ahead of Jones, but he wasn't too far behind, pacing off the back of him.

The repeat runs are definitely not one of Jared Rivers' strong suits.

Morton, Jordie and Bartram really earned their money today, walking about 8 laps before going back indoors early.

I agree- and really hope he does.Seems to be training well. But he is NO CERTAINTY.

I think that Gysberts and Blease need a lot of time in the fitness department after watching today, Gysberts is from what I believe a mile in front of Bleasey. Gysberts at least in the last drill got his hands on the ball and worked for space, whilst Blease did nothing, Royal kept getting into him about it. Also something that I left out was the defenders when they went into their group, began with running jump and mark over an opponent, and then later went into body on body contests with Rawlings to try to win front position and then spoil. I think the club asked for coaches who are willing to get in there and give it a go in the drills which is interesting, can't think of another club who does this. I'm going again of Friday on the same parkbench, see youse there

Okay, I'll retract that crack about 3 lines. The more actual observations you post after attending training the more I'll like reading your posts.

Sorry-Ihave tried to give others the opportunity to report their thoughts.I go to training twice a week- therefore see things in a different light than others whom only can go sometimes,if you go back and read opening posts-I have left it to two others to report today.Delirious & DemonDisciple.

The more the merrier I say - anyone who goes should pen their observations, perceptions can differ and some may pick up things that others don't see. All information is good for those of us who can't make it down and all the reports are appreciated.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
