Shannon Byrnes and Tyson Goldsack

Thanks !

I'm confused - is that an exclamation mark or a note of sarcasm (which as if i understand Chook correctly has parenthesis around the exclamation mark)

I don't think Byrnes would be a top player, but he's been at a club that knows how to train to win. He's someone that for a year or two could be a role model for some younger players, and hopefully give him a chance to bow out as an AFL player.

As a free agent he costs us nothing.

Posted

Let's see what he can produce for us before we judge him.

Let's hope the club has done its research and is confident he can produce. Otherwise it's a waste.

Posted

But a cheap waste.

Maybe. Some decisions of the past may appear cheap waste, but they can effect membership and support as we've seen, it's not that cheap.

You think that us recruiting a small forward from Geelong and that not coming off will affect membership and support?

Come on, HT. I know what you are suffering from with that attitude...

But cheaper than costing draft picks or players.

Goldsack didn't do a great deal last night but he is highly regarded by Collingwood fans.

Perhaps it's because of this:

Wasn't much in it.

After watching the VFL grand final today and following Geelong all season in the VFL, Melbourne MUST target Shannon Byrnes!

You seem pretty confident in Byrnes.

I'm saying if it doesn't it will be a complete waste - as cheap as it may or may not be - and it joins a long list of questionable decisions in recent years given a significant amount of members feedback.

You can call it MFCSS if you want.

Ask yourself what has Byrnes delivered for Geelong in the last two years. Squat.

We all read ludicrous rumours about who we are targeting in the press. For me, Byrnes, is possibly the only one that might ring true.

I used to slag him off no end - Geelong made him look good and he would be rubbish in any other side.

That changed as he later became a valuable player for 2 or 3 years until pushed out by Stokes, Motlop and Christensen.

Now, I could see him as a cheap short term prospect for our non-existant small forward line. I would just expect a demonstration of training and work ethic to our lot plus a smidgeon of winning edge. I'm not fussed either way but I could see him at the Dees ahead of pack skirters like Pearce, for example - it just doesn't fit the Neeld mould.

He was terrific throughout the VFL finals series. Hard, made good decisions and executed them well

Nothing will happen until after October 1 when the FA rules come into play. We might have an offer that we will put officially after that time. Melbourne always plays by the rules.

I hope you said that with a nudge & a wink!

I only watched the first half of today's GF but I made a point of looking out for Byrnes and must say he was hardly sighted; he must have done a bit in the second half if you were impressed.

First half was quiet but what he did was very clean. His second half particularly his last quarter was excellent.

THIS is your argument?

Ask yourself what Josh Kennedy delivered for Hawthorn in his time there. Squat.

Look at him now.

Sometimes, a player is beaten into the 22 by better players. In Byrnes case, he lies behind Stokes, Christensen and Motlop. He can't get into the side.

At Melbourne, he lies behind no one. So he would be a starter in our best 22.

Byrnes would automatically be in our top 5 players at the MFC.

That's a bit rich.

Ahead of Clark, Jones, Grimes, Trengove, Howe, Watts, McDonald, Sylvia, McKenzie, Rivers, Frawley, Garland, Blease, etc?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
