Convince me Jack Fitzpatrick will make it

This thread is totally ridiculous.

Skinny talls normally take a few years to mature...to judge someone after one game is completely imature in a football sense.

A guy named Steph Martin got dragged over the coals at the end of last season, and he ended up being a saving grace for 2011.

A guy named Jamar had the same treatment on here 2 years earlier, and has gone on to become a premier ruckman in this competition.

I think it is fair to say we shouldn't be making a call on a young tall after 1 game of footy. Give him another 2 years to find his place.

Martin, Jamar, Garland, Frawley, Watts, Gawn and now Fitzpatrick. They've all been given the 'dud and delist' treatment here early in their careers by posters who don't understand the development required to get tall players up to AFL standard.

Lots of players debut poorly (Frawley, Jamar etc...) and especially big fellas. Fitzy's debut was particularly poor and his basic skill set looked vulnerable. Having said that, Newton's skills are of a very high standard yet his efforst at AFL level are so bad. It is his average ability at marking and his horrible kicking action that are the main worry. If these are poor at training and in Casey games, imagine what Collingwood, Hawthorn or Geelong would do to them?

The biggest issue for him are the players who are ahead of him for the kind of spot in the 22 that he might fill.

Tall Forwards: Watts, Cook, Martin,

Rucks: Jamar, Gawn, Spencer,

Defence: Garland, Frawley, T McDonald, Rivers

As for being quick, both Watts and Martin are quicker.

I don't think Fitzy is going to make it but we do have to give him time to find that out. And there are others who need to be delisted/traded before him. I think he should remain with us for another two years.

Someone convince me that "the master" will make it.

He's been a member of Demonland for just over 2 years and is still coming up with a thread such as this. I could maybe ignore it if it was a first week poster, but to deliver this after being on the member list for over 2 years is a worrying sign.

Please convince me otherwise.

Please convince me otherwise.

He was allegedly a skinny 200cm raw kid when he first registered. It takes time and patience. Showed good form in the Best 18 thread, but his team he drafted was horrible all year. Has the ability to make amends and improve.

Do you ever read your posts?

Maybe because as a junior his laziness was attributed to CFS.

I am not sure what "rocket": you refer. Are you referring to issues with his training? Care to spill the beans?

Rino, you obviously don't read peoples posts. Or jump to your own conclusions of what you think you've read.

I posted that 'Yes', he had CFS, but when in the U-18's you could see when he had energy, he was still slack.

This was evident in his second Yr of U-18's. I didn't see much of him in his first year, but could see his talent alongside that of Tyrone Vickery & others. Mind you I didn't see the attraction Re Scully as the others except his busyness. I was concerned about this Lad.

Fitzpatrick, appears to be a bit laconic, so IMO needs to get more desperate about how he goes about his footy. To lose the Layed back ways.

He needs to hit the Gym the Hardest he's ever done. He needs to Improver his fitness a lot. And he needs to work on getting Hungrier for the contest and the ball. I think he has enormous talent, but that is nowhere near enough on it's own, & can be a huge problem causing complacency.

I guess all players can't be as good as Dean Polo from day one.

Brilliant!

Btw, like your avatar, in the context of this thread.

On a different note - why don't we consign Jack to the same bin as those other early Demonland-proclaimed duds Col Garland and Rohan Bail?

Jack has shown enough to indicate that he is well worth further substantial investment of time on our part.

I don't get where this myth about him being poor overhead has started.

I don't know about myth, though i can't really comment on his form in the VFL, but as a junior he was a very poor mark for his size.

Who cares what his marking was like as a junior! I saw him a couple of times at Casey. He is a strong mark and attacks the ball hard.He is also very quick.

I think he could be the power forward we are looking for once he gets a few games under his belt.

We've had threads about how good it would be to recruit a big power forward like Chris Dawes.

He was Collingwood's pick 26 in 2006. He spent most of 2007 recovering from a knee reconstruction, played six games at the end of the 2008 season, then only four matches in 2009. Then he wasn't picked for the first four matches of 2010.

But after that, he played 20 matches including the two 2010 Grand Finals.

Imagine if Collingwood made a 'tough call' after three years on their list, and delisted him for being such a 'dud'?

Off topic, but Chirs Dawes is the most overrated player in the comp. Plays 2nd fiddle in a premiership team but gets talked up like thes the Coleman medalist.

Your description of the Fitz sounds as though it could equally be applied to a certain Colin Garland... care to comment on his abilities and how a laid back approach is detrimental to his game?

Actually, if it wasn't for Dawes effort last weekend, the Pies wouldn't be playing this weekend.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
