Reach will prosper and Jim's legacy honoured irrespective of the logo on jumpers.

I think any company considering sponsoring Melb will be well impressed by the clubs poise, professionalism and ambition over the last couple of days since Jimmy passed, and now be very keen to deal themselves into our story, season, club.

Sad as it is, my daughter asked me after watching the heartfelt interviews and tributes to Jimmy, "are we the coolest club in the league?". I could only agree.

I don't think the other Club's would do it any worse, or better. There is a time when you need to show ultimate professionalism, and yesterday was our time. We passed. I would imagine all Clubs would pass under the circumstances, and don't think it would be a reason for businesses to be knocking on our door with big wads of cash.

You are more generous than me wyl

companies spending $1+ million would want no deluotion of their image/ meesage.

I think you are mistaken if you think JS dying will make any difference to wether a company comes on board as the FOJS.

business is business

Now you may reply that they will want to take advantage of the current sympathy.

Big Jim will be buried next Tuesday the first real games start on thursday by the following monday all will be forgotten to all except die hard dees fans.

IMO It will be business as usual.

Sorry Old Dee will have to pull you up here Jimmy will never be forgotten not just by us Dees, pretty sure they will strike some kind of medal in his honour not to mention the kids who's lives he has changed through Reach. I will always remember him and teach my children and grandchildren about him. Oh and please god when that fateful day finally comes our way on the last Saturday in September and we lift the trophy the first person I will think of and thank is Jimmy

Well PSD I was trying to convey the theory that Busisness will quickly forget about the Big Jim and the MFC.

If they were not going to be a sponsor of the MFC last Monday they will not be next Monday

The fact the Jim Stynes has died will have no bearing on their decision.

As I said in my comment Business is Business.

I always had hoped that Jim would beat this thing, not only for himself, but because if he did and we eventually won a flag, that would've covered the 2 miracles required for official sainthood.

So, the 2012 AFL season has "officially" started, and we are still without a FoJ sponsor. We have 5 days until OUR season starts.

Will we see an announcement this week of a new sponsor? Or will that announcement be the Club explaining why we are needing to use our back up plan for this Saturday's jumpers?

(Thought I'd give Watts a rest by bringing up this ol' chestnut!).

billy I doubt there will be a FOJ sponsor any time soon.

Checked this morning and still no 2012 jumper available from the MFC store.

Still on order and none in sight at present.

I will be pleasantly surprised if anything happens this week.

Do not hold your breath waiting for an explanation of why there is no sponsor.

Agree. And particularly seeing that JS's tribute match won't be held until April 22nd in Round 4, the day before his birthday.

I suspect that the club will focus on Jim's State Funeral, at least until tuesday. So your question is moot (and insensitive)...

I will be very surprised if anything is announced before Saturdays game.

I still hold faith that the CS has a long term, high value sponsor lined up. If that takes a few extra rounds to secure then an announcement during the H&A will not be the train-wreck some people are making it out to be.

I just knew that was the problem.

How much longer can we put up with him not going in hard enough

Maybe we should be getting Pfizer to sponsor?

There is a golden line there hardtack but I am going to leave it right alone.

Hey, I thought we were playing Jeopardy and you had already provided the "golden line" in the post to which I was responding :-)

Bloody CS. Has all the tricks, loads of potential but just does have the crash and bash style a good CEO needs. When we picked him up in the CEO draft we we're hoping he would be a Key Position Manager (KPM) but he seems to be an outside operator who picks up easy sponsorships and bangs on about KPI's. All those big words - where's his agro, his attack on the ball.

First I thought it must be the fault of the Norm Smith/MCC jinx

Then I thought no, it most probably is T$'s fault

Then I read somewhere that it was obviously CS's fault and he should be sacked forthwith

Then on reading Dr W's thesis I concluded it must be the apathetic mfc supporters fault

Now you are telling me it is JW's fault

I can't wait till the end of the season to trade him

No, that was to blame for The Sponsor Debacle of 2009 ©...

Then I thought no, it most probably is T$'s fault

Initially I thought his dad ate the money...

Then I read somewhere that it was obviously CS's fault and he should be sacked forthwith

Well, he can't attract sponsors!!

Except for that $6m he got from Energy Watch.

(Cough)

Then on reading Dr W's thesis I concluded it must be the apathetic mfc supporters fault

Oh, I don't care about that.

Now you are telling me it is JW's fault

It's the only thing that makes sense...

Thats quite optimistic, honestly with months in the off season you think that there would be a deadline for this and that it would be the start of the season.

What hope of a club do we have if we cant even stick to dead-lines.

Next people will be saying 'if it takes only a few extra weeks and we sign midway through the season, then thats ok.

Honestly, its not....

How is it insensitive Paul? It's a simple question, and while I am just as upset as the next Melbourne member going around, after tomorrow we move on. It will take a lot of time, some more than others, but the business that is the Australian Football League continues to run.

This is in no way disrespectful to Jim or his family, it's just how life is, and as we saw last week, sometimes life just bloody sucks.

And in your guts I know you know who is right! - If we where getting 50,000approx to each home game & rating our "[censored]" off on TV - we would have absolutely no problems in securing a FOJ sponsor. But the sad realistic facts of life are - we are not.

Melbourne supporters favour realism over optimisim. Well you now have to realistically face the facts - sponsors want eyeballs, that we cant deliver on a regular consistent basis.

The Reach Foundation would be a positive to be associated with by any company with even a shred of compassion.

Didn't Eddie say he would sabotage our sponsors?

On reflection I think I'll blame Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvilli Demetriou cos I think he is still out to get us.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
