So if Viney takes over and we win 4/5 make the finals....then what? Keep him on next year?? Or sack him after hes done exactly what we need and get someone else??

Posted (edited)

As I said n another thread, Viney coach Laidley as consultant and see how that goes until the end of the season; if they can work together and it looks ok make it permanent.

Todd Viney.

I hope Jimmy is saying something at 10am tomorrow.

I want to know what is going on at my club.

That said, Viney must replace Bailey immediately, but only for the rest of the year - we must go outside MFC for 2012 and beyond. Viney can return to his current role in 2012,

That is my only fear, traditionally caretakers don't stick with the club after taking over the helm, and given how much effort we've put into securing Jack Viney I'm concerned we may jeopardise it by putting him in this role.

(Although I must admit, there is a certain amount of romanticism about Todd coaching his son to a MFC premiership!)

Same bloody here. Even the worst teams don't lose by 186 points. Knifing the coach was a no brainer, but there's an odour that is enveloping the whole club at the moment.

Todd may only be stepping in for the remainder of the season to revert back to his previous role in 2012. If he has taken the job on that proviso we wont lose him. You never know though what may happen. Has there ever been a coach who "coached" his son?

T.Viney. And I hope that he stays on at the club beyond in some capacity. I'm hoping the club is transparent today, it's an important time for the club in many more ways than one.

I watched an adelaide tv sports show about the time Viney left over there, he cited family reasons for returning home, the two hosts were genuinely disappointed because they believed he was the clear replacement for Craig. That and his impact on a premiership Hawthorn side. Definately think he is not to be underestimated

I hope it's Todd but even if it is I don't expect to see huge changes or dramatic improvement in our playing squad, as I've said before it's all in the type of player we've recruited and more so the ones we've overlooked. Have a look at what we have and see how many we have that have the absolute will to win, not many are there.

We have ignored players that may have a little bit of a fault and recruited players that we thought had good football skills, but most have been found wanting when AFL pressure is applied. Jordie McKenzie should be the yardstick for the future, if they don't want to win as much as he does or if they don't want to try as hard as he does then we don't want them.

If we continue to use the same team of recruiters we have now we will forever be soft, we need to recruit some mongrel in to the club and perhaps then the coach may have a chance of winning a flag. How many of the players that we have on the list at the moment would you be happy with going in to a Grand Final? I reckon about ten or less, the rest would fold like a deck of cards under the pressure or simply aren't good enough.

Todd was a great footballer and inspirer but what coaching experience has he had? That's my main concern.

Todd was Clarko's assistant when the Hawks won the flag. He knows what's need to win. If he can instil half of the grit he played with into our current team we've got a chance of winning.

I'm just concerned about Viney being a part of the 'boys club'....

That said, I don't want anyone else on our list coaching us for the next five games. Well maybe Westie.

Viney for coach indefinitely, the guy is a firebreather

Back when the club was looking for a new coach post Daniher, I felt sure Todd Viney was going to put his hand up, but for whatever reasons he didn't. I was very disappointed. Many on here will express the need for an experienced coach, but I would jump on Viney as quickly as possible. Jack coming in 2 years is irrelevant. We need a hard bastard, and we need one now. If he inspires as a coach like he did as a player, we could want for nothing more.

TV should show the first 5 minutes if his round 22 performance against Hawthorn, the merger match. He runs from end to end after the ball, collecting scalps along the way. Awesome, inspiring stuff to show our players the way!

I hope we go for Rocket Eade if he becomes available at the end of the year

That's my concern too. But a few of those other boys may not be around too much longer anyway.

Does anyone know if Todd has matchday responsibilities this year? I know his role is primarily developmental. Does he even sit in the coaching box?

The club hierarchy must be embarrassed. They should never have given DB an extension in the 1st place. For the whole club's sake I hope they get the most experienced coach available and actually pursue targetted candidates rather than just ask who might be interested. No more trials for 1st year "potentially great" coaches anymore.

The selectors need to have gonads enough to not play "soft at the ball" players which we seem to have in abundance right now. This includes some of our so called "leadership group" at the moment.

Unfortunately the game has passed a few of our senior players by. J Mac should still be there and Green should stand down voluntarily. Geez these are 2 decisions that will haunt the club for some time....thanks DB!

The playing group need to stop being prima donna performers! Surely they now realize that you have to earn respect by showing something on the field. There are no more excuses for a lot of these occasional footballers. The leadership group needs to change drastically. Use the younger ones now and demand some mongrel.

The club management are also at fault for not doing something sooner, as many experts and long time followers have seen this coming for the whole season, even allowing for a couple of good wins along the way.

We are once again the joke of the whole AFL footy world thanks to inactivity.................let's never let that happen again.

Get on with it Melbourne....................now!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
