Interesting that the Dees boys on the Footy Show GF revue did a song by Maroon 5, "Dance Like Jaeger" or should that be "Jagger". Wonder if they know something?

Am I the only person who doesn't want this kid? Honestly, I think the Chris Judd comparisons are well and truly justified, including the bit where he's going to want to be traded back to WA ASAP. Why waste our efforts with him when he's almost certain to walk out on us? We've already had that with Scully. Better to look for players who will want to play with us.

That is a terribly defeatist attitude. Can you imagine the Collingwood Football Club having such a mindset, or would they back in their culture and elite performance programs in their quest to retain required players ? Not to mention their quest of winning flags.

The ratio of interstate players requesting a trade back to their native state would be less than one in twenty. Premierships aren't easy to win. Is the chance to secure a potential star worth the risk of the 'go home factor' ? Of course it is. Scully shouldn't even enter your mindset considering he's the antithesis of the 'go home' factor. His situation may not be revisited for decades.

You say that O'Meara is "almost certain to walk out on us". That's speculation in the extreme. It's bordering on unhealthy paranoia.

You say "better off looking for players who will want to play for us". You really need to comprehend the nature of a national competition and the vagaries of a draft.

You mention the 'Judd factor'. Judd was instrumental in West Coast winning a flag. How does a flag sound ? When he was traded they were well compensated. If O'Meara wanted to return home the MFC would also be well compensated if he's as good as first thought.

It's fair to say that I don't share your concerns, pessimism, or general sentiments.

How do you know who will stick around?

He-who-must-not-be-named was a Victorian...

Jack Trengove, a South Australian pined after for by PA and Adelaide, has embraced the club the way I embrace a Mountain Goat Hightail Ale on a cold winters night...

How are you supposed to know?

Get the best talent you can and try to keep them.

Hell, with Ralph's attitude, why draft ANYONE?

I base this opinion on the many articles which have stated that he had his heart set on playing for either Freo or WC. Looking at the sort of language being used I draw the conclusion that he will be a very hard sell and will most likely do a Des Headland as soon as humanly possible. When you see a player being reported as having "resigned himself" to having to move interstate, you have to ask the question. For me, this raises massive red flags and I would honestly prefer to see Gold Coast spend their fourth pick on him and look elsewhere for our next star.

O'Meara isn't even a Perth boy. He's from near Geraldton.

Too true AoB, he's from Dongara, 3.5 hours north of Perth. Moved down for schooling, which imo would help in him moving interstate, as he has already moved away from home.

Very similar to the situation our own Trengove was in, Naracoort is almost halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne, he moved to Adelaide for schooling, and now he finds himself in Melbourne. That one has seemed to work out pretty well. Why not O'Meara???

For pick 4 and a first round compensation pick.

Emma Quayle, who I rate as one of the most knowledgable people in the game when it comes to junior talent, thinks Crouch is the way to go and prefers him over Jaegerbomb. Let's go for pick 2.

Let's assume for a second, that the age is correct. Pick 4 + compo pick for O'Meara + Pick 9, how doesn't our 2 compo picks + Warnock for O'Meara better that deal???

Again, i understand that there are going to be a million trade suggestions, 10 of which are probably going to come to fruition.

According to today's Age he is going to GC.

IMO Redleg he is as good as in the bank.

MFC site is saying they are targetting 17year olds in the mini draft system.

If OMeara is not available any ideas on who?

Those offers in that article have to be BS:

O'Meara + 9 to GC for 4 + mid 1st round compo

Crouch + 25 to Dogs for 17 + mid 1st round compo

If we can't top then we're not trying!!!

Brad Crouch. Spruiked by EQ on twitter. Looks the goods as a hard-bodied inside mid.

If the kid is such a gun and i'm not sayin he isnt

any reason why GWS are not going to hold onto him??

Because they can't. They are only allow to trade the 4 17 year olds. They can't keep them.

They can do that over the next 2 seasons though can't they meaning they could get O'Meara next year, but will have to give off all 4 x 17 year old picks the following year?

Posted

I'm all for inflating the price for O'Meara, then backing off and accepting pick 2. Crouch+Viney should give some real hardness and skills in tight to our midfield next year.

Agree those offers would appear to be severe unders.

Try 2013...even though the 17 y/o's get auctioned this year, they can't play until the year after..Viney is also not eligible until 2013.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
