Positives this week

1. Didn't lose 3 more players this week to injury (apparently)

2. Didn't get blown away in Q1 (or Q2) despite fielding a team of a mix of newbies and some probably never-will-bes.

Ah not many from that game. I think that Sylvia is now our best player is a positive. He has started to reach his potential and run hard all game. Get a few better players back and he will dominate games.

I'll throw Joel Macdonald as a positive, i like having him back, we look more solid.

Because we looked so solid last night and all

I thought that we would be beaten by 10 goals plus.

Our young blokes got a look at Judd and Murphy.

Rivers was solid again.

That's all.

THIS.

He is so underrated by posters on here. He is never going to be an elite kick, but in terms of zoning off in the backline he is one of the best in the game. We are a much better side with him in it.

3. The crowd - almost 50,000. Yet the TV commentators still made disparaging remarks about the number early in the match.

You are amazing Sue

Positive in the face of a cyclone

The only thing I could add to your list is No suspensions either ( apparently )

I didn't say I was 'positive'. Just that in the midst of your cyclone there are some positives. trying not to be swept away by the tsunami of moaning and wrist-slitting around here.

1. Martin again competed well in the ruck.

2. Rivers & MacDonald down back.

3. No injuries or suspensions.

4. It will be easy to find players to drop when Scully, Trengove, Davey & co are available for selection again.

One positive is watching Fremantle today. It gives you some perspective as to what can happen to your team when they have been decimated by injuries.

If Carlton last night did not have

Simpson

Scotland

Murphy

Robinson

Duigan

Carrazzo

Yarran

and we had 7 or 8 of our guys back in, would that result be reversed?

Personally I didn't think the end score was a true reflection of the match, thought Warnock, Rivers and Frawely held up well under the circumstances. The first three quarters we were still in the game but just didn't have the foward line power to be able to kick a winning score.

The continued improvement of Jack Watts. Yes some are knocking him again saying he merely picked uncontested possessions, but his ability to read the play and hit a target was fantastic. He WILL be a star. I also thought Morton played a good game, improved in some of the areas he needed too.

Trengove is now clear to play, and hopefully Scully will return next too.

Sounds like there were some good positives to come from Werribee.

Gawn among the best. Howe also.

Scully had a run and from all reports was good.

This all means that there are at least players pushing for selection, and even though we have injuries, we at least have some depth.

Also, Trengove suspension is over, and he can now slot back into the side.

Greens game last night was also a positive sign. He needed to improve, and he did.

Trengove, Scully, Dunn, Gawn, Bartram, Blease, Howe, Wonaeamirri and Strauss

All positively should get a run

The club has some serious issues and they need to be acted on asap

Positive comments - I have plenty:

Considering Carlton's position on the ladder, and then ours, I think we did ok. They SHOULD have wiped the floor with us, but didn't. Take away those two free goals awarded by their friends in green, and we didn't do anywhere near as bad as many people thought we would;

As far as I know, no-one got injured;

Sylvia just keeps improving - with some of our better players due to return in a couple of weeks, he should be better with some support;

Sometimes we did actually kick the ball instead of just handballing;

Jimmy did us proud - where he gets the energy from I don't know, but he is only to be admired for not only having the energy and will to show up, but putting on a performance too;

I had such a crap couple of days, it was just good to go to the footy. :) :)

1. Sue opening a positive thread.

2. Jimmy. Those who did not have a dip after that need to take a good hard look.

3. Rivers, sounding like a leader when interviewed and playing like one.

4. Col, jmac, Watts, Warnock, Jordie and young Nicholson all had a go.

5. Team spirit is obviously good else our backs would have gone and punched out our forwards for lack of defensive pressure.

6. A first gamer running on in that debacle and attacking it like he meant it.

7. The several stiff drinks I had after driving home.

Posted

Jimmy looking good, Jones continuing with his good form, Rivers goal.

However, I think this thread should be renamed: "Let's Make a Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear"

Posted

we are one game closer to another dissapointing season ending

we are one game closer to a new coach

we are one game closer to the tough calls being made on some ordinary fringe players....yes im looking at you Juice!!

Posted

Joel Macdonald having the best game I've seen him put in in the Red & Blue

He was very solid.

Watts is getting more comfortable, but I still wish he would listen to his gut more and stop second guessing himself.

Rivers was solid.

Jetta is not as talented as others but his attack on the footy and bloke is very good.

Jones is a unheralded tryer but he is playing some good footy.

Sylvia is getting more consistent.

Posted

Positives, the discovery of Evans and Nicholson. In & at it mids who run hard, tackle and chase.

# The selectors now seem prepared to play young 'contested ball' players!!!

    Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

    Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

    THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

    Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
